Studio of The Year 2010
Vivid Entertainment Defies Gravity and Wins Studio of The Year
2010 was nothing short of a brutal year for the Porn industry which had the toughest year its ever had. A lot of studios weren't left standing at the end of the year and many performers found their work almost completely dry up. It's in the abismal climate that Vivid Entertainment made dramatic shifts to find the sweet spot in the industry and succeed wildly while others were failing.
We were shocked when we heard the news that Vivid Entertainment had not renewed any of its contract stars contracts. After all Vivid basically established the contract girl system. But soon after this bold move we understood why. Times had changed and the end of the era of the contract star had begun. Vivid was right there on the forefront.
Instead of focusing on a handful of performers, Vivid reached out and pulled together casts from some of the best performers in the biz. This resulted in innovative features like Malice in Lala Land and The Condemned.
Add to this Vivid's relationship with Alex Braun and 2010's biggest hit Batman XXX and you've got one hell of a year.
But what lit Vivid's fire were a series of extremely well publicized celebrity sex tapes including Montana Fishburne and Brittney Jones. This coupled with steady mainstream attention, including Steven Hirsch's almost weekly offer to bail out the Octomom, kept Vivid in the spotlight and their titles at the cash registers in porn stores across the nation.
Last year we named Vivid Entertainment our 2009 Studio to Watch and in 2010 they delivered far beyond our expectations. Vivid is far ahead of the curve and we expect to see a lot more Superhero Porn, Celebrity Sex Tapes and a lot less contract girls in 2011.
