Have you?

I'll definatly admit I have a nice collection.

What about you?

For the longest time I didn't, but then I had a certain "friend with benefits" and we decided to do some late-night shopping. Techi, I see you're from my area originally, so you'll appreciate this. A store called the Lion's Den opened south of Marion. It's really nice actually, well-lit and clean, not at all creepy. It's open 24 hours a day, so we headed over there one weekend and found their prices and selection to be quite reasonable!

Not long after I met a friend of a friend who ran his own mail order business out of Cobden (he's since moved to L.A.). He has all kinds of stuff, good prices, and some excellent hand-made bondage stuff. A purchace or two was made from his catalog as well (you can too, by visiting www.thestockroom.com).

If you ever get back here, Techi, be sure to stop by the Lion's Den!

Wow.. they have the Lions Den there now? Isn't Southern Illinois moving up in the world! *sarcasm* LOL

We have a ton of those here in Columbus. Thanks for the tip though. I know alot of people in that area back home who could use a sit and spin. ;)

Like the Lion's Den on I-71, mile marker 140 or so, say 25 mins north of OSU? Yeah, I've never stopped there on my 100 trips between OSU and my home in Cleveland. :D

"Non-creepy" is a good description. It's about as creepy as a Rite-Aid. Check your inhibitions at the door, wander in, find what you like, and buy it. I expected it to be more exciting, but otoh, the mundane nature calms one's nervousness, too.

See? That's what I absolutely loathe about modern day sex shops. They're so neon-bright and Disney safe that they might as well sell these adult "novelties" at the local WalGreens down the street. Where's the adventure in going into one of these PineSol smelling, garish pink-and-orange nightmares? That's so far from sexy that it's hard to describe.

I miss the good ol' days when sex shops were run down, dirty and had a serious social stigma still attached to them. Where you had to find a parking spot several city blocks from the porn-store and would skulk down to the dingy windowless door and cringe if you made eye contact with anyone in the place, including the clerk. The old "combat zone" in Boston used to carbonate my hormones in a flash. I'd psyche myself up by grabbing a quick snack at the McDonald's near the park and then dive into the seedy underbelly of Beantown. I'd check out a few bookstores and then sneak into the "Pilgrim" theater for a quick peek around (since I was too scared to actually sit in a seat or even try to take in what was going on around me).

And back then you could actually thumb through the damned magazines. Nowadays, everything's shrink-wrapped in plastic condoms or safe-guarded in hard-plastic sleeves and over-sized "kiddie-video" boxes.

When sex came out of the closet in the late 80's/early 90's - so to speak - when it became a morning talk show staple for the Oprahs and the Sally Jessys and the Dr. Ruths, the sex shops were completely ruined. All the mystery and the danger was sucked out. Now they're practically safe enough for the "whole frickin' family."

It's actually a really sad fact that this seedier side of American history is completely disappearing. All the old bookstores, movie houses and strip-joints that have gone out of business or are in a state of disrepair and decay - strangely, they have a huge nostalgic pull for me - like those decaying boardwalks on the Jersey shore with the old amusement rides rusting in the sea-surf.

Dammit - now I'm all bummed out.

:(

But look at the bright side. There's more to gay porn than Blueboy.

The last time I visited the Combat Zone was eight years ago. It was down to one theater and one magazine store.

I haven't bought any toys online. I want to see and feel them before I buy them. I need the tactile response.

Mr. Salty -- can you introduce me to some of those models at the Stockroom?

Actually at the new-fangled Disney-safe stores, you're lucky if you get more than one title that's exclusively gay.

I wish, but sadly, no. J.T. (the store's owner) is using an L.A. photographer for those, so I've never met them.

When I met J.T. I was a professional photographer. He gave me a copy of his catalog at the time to see if I would be interested in shooting some photos for the next edition. I knew a few people who would pose for such pictures, but not for use in a catalog (where were you when I needed you Techi? ;) ). J.T. moved to L.A. before he was ready to put together the second catalog, so I never got the chance to shoot for him.

Oh, what might have been.

Really? When I worked at a magazine store, we had more than a dozen gay titles, from the Advocate to pinup titles to erotic letters.

We also had a lesbian vampire magazine (and that's a small market).

It's too bad they don't make GOOD sex toys for men because the crap they sell is just that...crap.

I mean women got it good in that department in terms of rubber dicks.

I remember you saying something about doing those pix. Dare I ask what you bought? Plastic vaginas? A Mr. Salty pump?

I can't go into specifics here. Let's just say there was a party where I was so drunk I was drinking rum and cokes out of a cookie jar. The host of the party took out his credit card and a few items were ordered. Some for he and his (now wife), some for ... person or persons unknown.

I bought a butt plug for the woman, and also a big jelly dong. We don't play with them too much though.

Oh my god! The book of my dreams - the one I'd actually hoped to write - is now a reality.

I just found this on Amazon:

Sleazoid Express!! (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0743215834/qid=1039814438/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/103-5644527-2055062?v=glance&s=books&n=507846)

And there's a semi-illustrated review here:

snubdom's review of Sleazoid Express (http://www.snubdom.com/MPsleazoid.htm)

That is how I remember the porn industry being. That's the kind of aura of danger surrounding these shops nowadays that's completely missing.

*sigh*

The good ol' days . . .

Great selection (though not much "hardcore" stuff), great customer service, and best of all, they don't sell junk. If they don't like it, they won't sell it. If it's crap and will break after two uses, you won't find it in their catalog. If it's unsafe, again, they won't carry it. Their reviews of products are also nicely frank, and the ratings consistent.

My wife and I have ordered quite a few things from this catalog and we've been satisfied enough that we don't even bother buying from anywhere else (including brick and mortar). It's just too hard to figure out what's crap and what's not.

I'd recommend adameve[dot]com. My girlfriend and I have been happy with the selection, and they usually have some good offers, like free shipping and a free surprise gift (you can choose between movies and toys) with a certain amount purchased. The free DVD was pretty decent too! :)

My favorite so far is the Rabbit with the piece that extends out and rubs my clit. I cum everytime from this. I got it at FollowThatPackage.adameve dot com They have awesome prices, great deals every day and what I love the most is they send you a free secret gift with purchase.

Nice topic dude. It was once in my life. I bought one big red dildo for my girlfriend. She said at first ,"why you gave me such a thing" . But then admit that used it in a bath, but it was so big that it could't fit her. So, when i saw this dildo again she bite a piece of my present. If you can't use it properly , eat it, here is her philosophy. And about fake vaginas, i red somewhere that it is a great pleasure using it, the price is't so high , try to buy it , will tell your experince , with pictures maybe :)
