I would say most likely the gals. I've been with some girls that like to talk dirty during sex and it was a big turn off for me. I guess different strokes.

I had a lover who told me during sex to "Just shut the phaque up!!" .. she had never had a man talk so much to her during sex and it was unnerving her. It was funny in retrospect.

I read the newspaper aloud during sex, although it's hard to hold onto it with only one free hand.

There was an issue with this on Sex and The City... Where Miranda's guy wanted her to talk dirty, and she was reluctant...but finally she did.
anybody else know this episode?

I like a little talk. Sometimes though too much can be unnerving like a general barking out orders or instructions. Using the word "now" can also cause a little performance anxiety. On the other hand woman that are totally quiet can be a little dull. Little = good allot= bad in my handbook.

Women usually want to talk after sex. :)
My wife will sometimes talk dirty when we do it, but more often than not, she likes it when I talk dirty to her. She doesn't like it all the time, but sometimes, when she's feeling raunchy, she gets into it.
One time, she made up a story while we did it about a young girl (she told it in first person) who gets lured into a sex ring and ends up having lesbian sex in front of a group of people. She's only done that once, but man it was hot.

I always find it distracting when the woman says "Can you hurry up and finish?"

My recent ex got turned on by conversation on an unrelated topic sometimes. She also liked foreplay to involve a story putting us into the shoes of fictional characters. I gotta say it was pretty fun actually. I’m usually inclined to just breathe and use body language. (The time for talk is done so to speak.) Oh yeah. One time she said, “Keep going!” over and over and it totally ruined it for me. I mean, that was my plan for godsake!
I have been with some women that make the noises and say the things that they think that you want to hear and it’s never anything but obvious and distracting. Go with the moment and be genuine is what works for me.

I own that whole season on DVD. So I know what you're talking about. That's my favorite show.
I tend to believe that girls just want to talk, like say cute things (that's what I do) and guys like to talk dirty. Like asking you what you like and what you want. But that's just my experience.

It all depends on the person. And I think you have to be pretty comfortable in your relationship. But I don't think that one does more than the other. If done right...you can carry on a whole dirty conversation with each other. :D
