If you want to get the full complement of std tests when you have no reason to suspect any problems, where do you go?

The standard STD clinics in most metro areas seem a tad sketchy and the tests appear to be limited to the "fatal" diseases. The emergency room or hospital express care seems like overkill. Would any walk-in clinic suffice? Should you go to the family doctor? Thoughts?

How about your Doctor?

I was just listened to a discussion about that, led by a new STD guy from the CDC. Nobody said anything negative about the quality of work done by the metro clinics. But they might give you a hard time if you want to be tested on a regular basis. They have limited funding, and might want to focus on hookers and gay men who don't use condoms. It seems that white hetero women have a particularly hard time getting regular testing, because the group as a whole is low-risk. They also tend to be tight with the herpes tests, because they're expensive.

But you're talking about your health, and the health of your current and future partners. Fight with them. Get the tests.

When I last got tested, I just went to my regular doctor. Insurance paid for it.

Go to your regular doctor if you can. That way, he will have a full medical history for you if other problems pop up. That said, in most major metropolitan areas there are some sort of STD clinics that provide a full battery of tests with a written verification you can brandish about while on the prowl (you might still get your insurance to pay for them too). This is different from the free or public funded clinics that Nick is probably referring to (and they cost more) or you could go to AIM and say you want to be a porn star. lol

I agree, go see your doctor. Be aware that the "stick" test hurts like hell.
