KING CITY, Calif. - Maryam I. Haley, a.k.a. Haley Paige, who appeared in over 300 adult titles between 2002 and 2007, passed away August 21, according to the King City coroner's office. The cause of her death is still under investigation, awaiting the results of a toxicology report.

Haley's body was released to a mortuary August 27. A spokesperson for the coroner's office said it is typical for toxicology reports to take between four and six weeks to be returned following an autopsy.

Rumors of Haley's death began circulating in the adult industry in September. She had by most accounts vanished over the past two months, along with boyfriend Inkyo Volt Hwang, a.k.a. director Chico "Wanker" Wang. Hwang was arrested June 29 for allegedly beating and kidnapping Haley, but was released July 3 with no charges filed.

The coroner's office spokesperson confirmed to AVN that Hwang was interviewed by the King City police several days after her death. Calls to the King City police department were not immediately returned.

As to another circulated rumor that Haley died of a heroin overdose, the spokesperson for the coroner's office said she had no track marks that would indicate such a cause, but it was hypothetically possible if she smoked the substance.

A longtime associate of Hwang's, Hung Lo, spoke to AVN and stressed that Hwang was good to Haley, and did everything he could to get her off of drugs. "That's what he wanted for her," Lo said. "He loved her."

That's just depressing; what a tragic life. I don't know if I could ever watch another scene with her without feeling like a participant in her exploitation.

I'd met her a few times at shows and she always seemed cheerful and happy with the business; the same could be said about the dozens of times she was in the BTS features of movies. When less in the limelight, she sure seems to have had problems but those problems started long before porn and continued after she left the industry (the industry having paid her bills when a minimum wage job would not).

She was a heavy drug user (including heroin) by most accounts and according to some of her own posts online, she considered suicide more than a few times so whatever can be said about her husband; she is as big a "suspect" in her death as he is. It's a shame that people die so young but you could also say that watching her scenes is one way to give her life some meaning, knowing she brought you joy thanks to her physical appeal (though to be fair, her body of work was wildly inconsistent, so your mileage may vary).

Haley was a professional and she truly loved the attention that her work provided, not only physically but emotionally.

I spent a week with her on Frank Castle's "Neighbors' set and she was quiet and shy, but she sparkled with a very sweet and sincere personality. Never a diva show or even a complaint, and when you're talking 14 hour days in crappy weather with a director that is precise and does really want the talent to understand their role, not just deliver lines... Let's say that it's not always pleasant for all of the performers or crew.

Haley was patient and kind throughout all of it.

It is truly heartbreaking that the drugs and whatever else was going on in her life led to her death. She was much too young to be gone now. Hopefully, wherever we all go once we leave the stage, she's found peace in that place.
