Can anybody tell me if Pirates (starring Janine, Devon, Carmen Luvanana, Jesse Jane) is worth the money?......The 2 disc set is retailing in Australian Adult stores for A$100.00, that's $75.00 in U.S Dollars!! the second DVD is just a high definition disc...apart from that it's the same movie,....
I've read plenty on the web and in X films trade mags about this film which appears to be as hyped as the best movie ever put on celluloid since 'Gone with the Wind', winning reviews for practically every category they can think of giving awards to.,....yes I know it's got talent and great tropical locations....but at the end of the day it's just a 'fuck film'...., I get suspicious about anything that's overhyped.....

Always remember to compare genre to genre; just as you wouldn't reasonably compare the sex of the mainstream Pirates of the Carribean starring Mr. Depp to a porno, it wouldn't be fair to compare Joone's Pirates (made on a budget consisting of less than 1% of the mainstream hit) to a mainstream ultra-budget Hollywood release.

As far as the criticism towards Pirates as a porno, keep in mind that it's a feature fuck flick, not a gonzo knocked out in a weekend as most porn is handled these days. Again, compare it to other contemporary feature porn and it really does stand out in many areas though the lack of circus act sex may put off those wanting something "different".

Thanks for your comments Don Houston, You do have a point there.....,just because it's a porno it shouldn't be belittled, it is after all a 'glossy', expensive production
and a hell of a lot of time and sweat has been poured into it
I guess the price has been the issue for some 'Strokers' down here in Australia, and the fact that you must pay for two dvds if you want to own the DVD at all, since it's only sold as a 2dvd set.
But the talent is awesome: Luvana, Devon, Jesse Jane.....has it been released in VHS in a cheaper VHS format?.

Anyway, it would seem I appear to be a Pirates basher, and I am not. I do actually own the film. I just don't find it to be "great porn" but it is very good and I did enjoy it. Like stated above, it is production porn meant to appeal to a different audience. Probably one that has not been quite so jaded by the plethora of internet porn that abounds. No anal = No sale!

Thes, you're welcome. To be fair, I haven't seen a tape in so long that I doubt Digital Playground makes them anymore. You can always use a coupon, find a sale, or find someone selling a used copy to lower the price. The version here is a 3 disc set so you can imagine that it's not cheap here either.

Jon, I understand where you're coming from about being jaded; I do tend to watch a bit of porn after all. ;) As a fun feature porn though, it was great for the intended audience and I think that was where all the hype came from (porn industry trade groups almost always seem to elevate the status of EVERYTHING as the next big title, as do the reviewers for websites selling product but too many independent reviewers have found it to their liking to be completely dismissive of the movie as strictly a fluff piece). I thought the anal between Jesse and Janine was pretty darned hot. I'm not enamored with anal as a "must have" act any more than interracial, facials, or foot fetish but for a specific viewer's needs, I can fully understand their wanting certain things in a movie. Heck, if Art were to write the screenplay for the sequel, it'd be called "Pirates 2: The Booty Bandits" and have a bunch of male on male action. :)

All I can say is that from the packaging, to the special features and the Movie itself... Its worth every single bit!

I watched this last night with my girlfriend. She got pretty impatient and eventually started fast forwarding once it had been 20 minutes without a sex scene. The production values were pretty high, and the sets and costumes were on par with a direct-to-video "real" movie. The acting, however, was *awful*. Even if all the sex scenes were cut out, you would be able to tell it was a porno just from the horrible acting. The only actor that didn't completely suck was the main hero guy who seemed to realize he was in a goofy porno and did a shameless Zapp Brannigan impersonation throughout. The sex scenes were fine, but nothing to stand out from most other movies. All in all, not bad for a porno (if you don't mind fast forwarding a lot to get to the good stuff), but in no way the "real movie that happens to have hardcore sex in it" as some are describing it.

Evan Stone. He's widely considered to be one of the best two or three actors in porn (meaning he can ACT, not just perform sexually).

Yes, one of the misconceptions is that ALL adult features have lame acting. Kind of like people who still think soap operas have nothing but bad acting in them...there are SOME adult movies with decent performances. Probably is, the decent performances in porn are almost always surrounded by a few bad ones.

Go rent some of the movies directed by Nic Andrews like RUSH, NO LIMITS and DARK ANGELS...you'll be impressed.

I think the majority of people were referring to the production values, not the acting quality. Personally, I think Wicked Pictures' SPACE NUTS is still better in quality than PIRATES, and it was made a few years back. PIRATES just got marketed better, so that's why more people are aware of it.
