LOS ANGELES – (February 4, 2008) – Adult superstar and Vivid Girl Sunny Leone is having a banner year. The actress' first boy/girl movie, "Sunny Loves Matt," will be in stores on March 5th and she has signed a contract for her first Bollywood movie with Siba Art Production and Distribution.
Sunny, who is also a former Penthouse Pet of the Year, is the only famous adult performer of South Asian descent. She was signed by Siba to star in "Pirates Blood," an English language mainstream thriller that will start filming in Oman in mid-February.
Sunny has been an elite contract actress with Vivid Entertainment, the world's leading adult film studio, since 2005. She is represented by LADirect Models, whose owner Derek Hay noted, "We are delighted that Sunny will have this mainstream breakthrough. She has already been described by the Arabic press as 'Indian–America's Marilyn Monroe.' She is beautiful, talented and a brilliant choice for this movie as her appearance will appeal to both her Indian and American fans."
"Sunny's popularity has soared since she joined Vivid. She has an enormous fan base that is already pre-ordering "Sunny Loves Matt," and we believe that as the first adult star to go Bollywood, she is marking another milestone in movie history," said Steven Hirsch, co-chairman of Vivid.
In addition to Sunny, the ninety minute film will star veteran Omani actor Salim Bahwan and an international supporting cast. "Pirates Blood" will be photographed by noted South Indian cinematographer Ramachhandran Babuk.
"The increasing popularity of Indian cinema has also been referred to by the press as 'Bollywood Mania.' It is driving moviemakers to be more innovative and casting Sunny as the female lead in "Pirates Blood" is a step in that direction," Mr. Hirsch said.
Bollywood is a multi-billion dollar Hindi film industry and according to a 2006 article in Entertainment Weekly Magazine "prominent Hollywood names like Michael Douglas, Sylvester Stallone, Cameron Diaz and Peter Weir have expressed a desire to shoot and research film projects" in India. The article also notes that "Will Smith has signed a deal with PVR Cinemas" and is interested in working with top Indian stars.
