View Full Version : How do I close my account here?!?

It's no secret that I'm unhappy with the direction this site has taken since it left DVDTalk. I still feel 1000% that way, and I VERY seldom come here for anything (and post even less often). What I do check when I come here is if anyone else is still complaining about the site as I've done, and checking old threads that I once (or twice or more) participated in. I really hate to come here, because I don't want to give them more "hits" so the site owners can charge more for ads. But now & then I peek. But the site matters less and less to me daily, and I miss the old one a little less all the time.
I noticed in another thread that there are about 6000 members here. I'd bet my gold teeth that 90% are holdovers from DVDTalk. Anyway, I'd like to be removed from the list of members, but I cannot find any way to close my account in the User CP. You see, I don't want to be a part of this new site in any way; and I don't want to lose my DVDTalk membership, but I don't want to be included here. The "6000 members" figure is artificially inflated (you all KNOW it is!), and I just don't want to be involved.

Can I be removed from this site without it screwing up my standing at DVDTalk? Especially since I was never asked if I want to be a member here.

Real easy. Just stop posting.

Sorry the new site doesn't meet your needs, check back in the future... who knows maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Is this the equivalent of a "I'm leaving, beg me to stay" thread like we see on DVD Talk now and then? I hope not because I suspect the crickets chirping says it all (and there has been a marked increase in posting overall, just as the number of hits the reviews are getting sometimes top those at the former website).

Still, you "hate" coming here yet you keep coming back to see if there is a huge uproar of complaints (it's a done deal, get over it and move along; IB doesn't need the headaches and Xcritic is separate)?!?

As far as the "inflated" number, the 6000+ reflect a) people that have signed up since the move (hundreds) as well as b) those that posted in the adult forum back when it was part of the old website. The numbers do not include the lurker contingent from either website. I can see why you'd like to rewrite history as though the people never posted in the forum (it would support your premise) but it's disingenuous to suggest all the forum(s) did not originate here so all the posts should be discarded.

By all means stay away if you hate the place so much. You were repeatedly offered a voice to make the website a better place yet did not want that. Maybe someday you'll stumble upon the website and find it more to your liking as it grows and evolves. Good luck in all that you do. :)

Ummmm, no. And are you saying that I have posted threads like that, or are you asking in general? Because I've never posted anything remotely like an "I'm leaving, beg me to stay" thread. And if you're asking in general, the answer is NO. Get off your knees, don't start begging.

I just like to see if anyone has posted again in this particular thread: http://www.xcritic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=514627
...as for getting over it, I think my original post says it well: "the site matters less and less to me daily, and I miss the old one a little less all the time".

"Just stop posting" doesn't remove my name and contact information from your "massive database" of members.

I am surprised, frankly, that no one else has asked to be removed from the rolls, after the mass exodus of old board members. Most of the "old guard" are no longer ACTIVE members here, and if asked or given the opportunity, I bet they'd want out, too.

Well, I'm late for work. Damn.

There are threads like this at DVD Talk on a regular basis and that was the tone you set in your post. "I'm leaving, look at me, you'll miss me when I'm gone" type of threads.

Yet you keep coming back for more, even in threads like this one or the others you've jumped into...

You can change your contact information if you like but don't be upset because no one followed your lead. As far as how active the forums have been, they get more active all the time and will somehow manage to survive you going away.

Can I have some extra ketchup with my order? Thanks! :D
