There has been a lot of behind the scenes discussion regarding the search functions here at Xcritic, especially regarding the reviews and other content. I like the general set up from DVD Talk but would add "key words", performers, and directors as well as ways to exclude certain things. Our programmer is a first rate, world class expert that can build just about anything we can come up with but this is a major undertaking so we don't want to waste his time with endless revisions. Anyway, feel free to post ideas for the search function here or email us so we can continue improving the website for members. Thanks!

Why can't we just incorporate something akin to DVDTalk's search function?

That possibility was raised but if given the choice, my vote is for an improved search that caters to the needs of the readers that will use it. I already got one email suggesting the feature add something like those dating websites offer regarding pictures; like "reviews with pictures only" or a broader feature that would provide hits from blogs, forum posts, articles, etc...

Why can't we just incorporate something akin to DVDTalk's search function? It's just that XCritic has reviews, news, blog entries, features, and probably some other things I'm forgetting, and there's just one search box. There needs to be a strategy -- do this if someone wants to search everything, have this as a simple search if you just want to look through one particular section of the site, have something else if you want to do an advanced search through one particular section...
