View Full Version : Chinese restaurant to me: you must order an entree with appetizers from now on

I found a place near my house that has great appetizers, but sub-average to average entrees. The appetizers are priced low ~$4 and two of them are more than enough dinner for me. So for the past couple months, once a week I order two appetizers.

Tonight I go in to pickup my order and the lady tells me I can no longer just order appetizers, I need to include an entree in future orders. She then gets the chef-guy who confirms, "no more just appetizers". Isn't that crazy? I've never heard of that before and it will cause them to lose my business (no way am I going to pay $9-10 for a lousy entree).

Are appetizers loss leaders? Was I causing them to lose money? Or do they (the Chinese culture) simply hate me?

EDIT - Yeah, my location is wrong. I now live in the good ole midwest. Not like that matters, aside from the prices in Berkeley would be doubled.

EDIT 2 - Oh yeah, I don't really want the pr0n thing, so if this thread actually has responses, you can dis-include me XCritic Editor. I use my imagination. I just needed to post this today because I knew I would forget otherwise.

EDIT 3 - Why does G-e-o-f-f become Geoff? Weird place this is.

The only reason I can see is that they may actually be losing money on them. I can see if you were ordering for delivery but you are picking it up. Seems dumb to me. Sometimes on my way home from work I just order an appetizer at a chinese place. Never a problem.

Are you a member of the spanish basketball team? That may explain why they hate you.

Cool. I know I originally didn't want it, but I'll totally take it! Yeah, I'm fickle like that.
