How is Kimberly Kane rated over Mason and Candida Royalle? She's done three flicks and suddenly she's better than Mason? Seriously?

My take on the list was that after the first name, the others were not in order of greatness or appeal, more like tossed out there for discussion. Each name on the list appeals to a different audience too but yeah, I have found Mason's admittedly small body of work to be more consistently strokable than half the list or more. It wasn't my list or it would have included Veronica Hart and a few others (honorable mention to Penny Flame as an example) but several on the list were reportedly included as much for the way they think outside the box (pun intended) or show so much potential, including Kane and Waxman. Ideas?

I definitely think Kimberly Kane shows promise. No Veronica Hart was a surprise as well. I know that Stormy Daniels said on ADT that she'd prefer to be simply considered a director rather than a 'woman director' and I see her point. I think Mason is the best director out there right now, based on her recent output, both the rough-stuff and the softer big-butt titles.

I was surprised to see Ashley Blue mentioned at the end as the Most Outrageous Outtakes video from JM Productions clearly shows that she is not really the director of her films (she stumbles around stoned while Powers is clearly directing everything).

I get the impression that Hart is finished with directing, happy to stick with smaller roles in production and non-sex acting but yeah, she had some very decent flicks in her time.

I like Stormy well enough and defended her in my review of Operation Desert Stormy but her concern (expressed to me at a dinner we both attended earlier this year) was that some people considered her to rely too heavily on Francois as her director of photography, Randy/Jonathan as second directors, Michael as art director, etc., on that one and even her other releases have the Wicked staffers handling all the technical work. This is similar to the Celeste mode at DP where Robby handles all the actual on set direction while he bases the scenarios on what she provides him (much like Ashley Blue was said to do at JM).

If you consider the Hollywood model of directing, each of them can be considered "director" without working a camera just so long as they have significant input into the decisions made on how the movie will be shot though I agree with you that some companies merely promote the women directors as a marketing gimmick more than anything. Still, with all respect to Stormy and company, opinions would widely vary if a list of top ten directors were to be made as to how few of the ladies would fit on the larger scheme of things (if for no other reason, so many of the golden age directors were top notch, limiting the modern era spots on the list).
