Default Blog Feedback: Chapter 2 - But I Like Me!

This is a response to Chapter 2 - But I Like Me!

I was reading 'Chapter 2 - But I Like Me!' on Tales of Retailing Tail, and...

I agree with you on so many points. Anyone who couldn't see that the hotmovies ads were cheap fearmongering attempts had to be mental. It's so obvious when someone essentially says:

"All the ways you make money will end soon, but if you give me a lots of money, I'll keep you in business." Duh.

All those that have abondoned the DVD ship will not be missed. They probably shouldn't have gotten onboard in the first place. The "VOD is the be all, end all" crowd actually wants you to believe that people will suddenly become agoraphobic, it's ridiculous.

I wish those making 25% of $0.08 all the best in their future endeavors, whatever that may be.

I like a tangible product in my hand and admit to being a "collector". Having lost far too many hard drives full of content over the years and never seeing a burnt disc look "exactly like one you buy" even from my techie friends, I doubt I'll ever join the wave of people claiming VOD is the best thing ever. Those in the industry that think VOD is their savior are going to get a rude awakening; not just from affiliates that rarely report true income, "share" content with others and don't tell the content producers about it, find that they can't make a living competing with the thieves that repackage content and sell it.

It has its place and that place is sure to grow but fighting piracy should be a higher priority.
