Default Growing up, did you talk to your parents about sex?

Or, did they talk to you about it at all? Did you or they feel comfortable talking about it?

I did, and so did my parents. My parents were really cool with issues like that. They still remembered what it was like to be my age back then, and gave me the best advice they could without criticizing or just telling me not to do it.

I'm also wondering if talking with parents about sex has made you feel more comfortable talking about it with other people or posting about it here.

My parents didn't really talk about it. They gave me a book to read when I was in second grade I believe. Subconsciously I thought that there was more info to be had. So when I became older I started reading more books on the subject. I then came across a book called the Hite Report. Lots of useful info on sex, and alot of useful info on what women like. Then it became a quest to know as much as possible on how to please a woman, looking back I think it's funny how I was so interested in pleasing a woman in bed and I was still a virgin. But all in all, sex is best when the two people are compatible. I believe that because of the relationship that I'm in now. I've never been so comfortable in my life, to be able to do anything you want and be comfortable with someone you love is truly intoxicating. Sex is easy, learning about it is easy, finding the right match is extremely hard. I actually thank my parents for presenting it to me the way they did because it made me do my own research, and it more than likely made me better in bed. I am actually very comfortable with talking about sex with anyone, even though my parents never "talked" to me. I'm real comfortable with my body and being naked, I don't have any qualms about showing my body to anyone, I do not however give it to anyone but the person I'm with. I don't give up my gifts easily and never will.

They told me about it but not in detail. More like answering any questions I had but not initiating any conversation.

I was about 18 .. and my dad saw that I had a copy of *Sex Manners For Men* (which would be really dated by now) .. and he simply said: "Ok, now I know you know." And that was that. Nevermind that I had been sexually active for two years already ..

my mom talked to me about it

she started when I was fairly young (8 or 9, I think) and told me a bit more over time

I have never talked to my father about sex. Judging by how freaked out he used to get when he'd find my bras, I doubt the topic will ever come up.

Nope, not for me...we've never talked about it. I'll probably feel embarrassed and shy away if they start getting into a conversation about it.

The only time I got into a big conversation about sex with an another adult was in health class when I was in high school. Sex is always a big topic to talk about in Health class and students really get into that topic in school and most of them don't like the "Health" subject in school either.

Here's a funny story. When I was younger I used to hang out with the neighbor's kids a lot. Anyway, the youngest one thought that sex was when mommy and daddy jumped all over the bed naked while peeing on each other.

yep

my parents were a couple of free-love hippies, and on top of that my mom was a nurse who was comfortable talking about that kind of stuff in a no-nonsense fashion. I hope I'm able to handle talking about sex with my kids as well as my parents did for me.

After that I usually feel a lot better, and no harm done.

I'm glad I had very open parents about issues like that as well. They always gave me great advice and let me have my privacy. They never imposed anything nor were they ever too strict. They recognized that sex was part of a normal life, so they just tried to guide me in a good way regarding that.

Kind of, but it was more like "here son, take a look at this book"
"any questions?"
"no, good"

I'm 24 and to this day I never got the "talk" per se. The closet thing to the talk was back when I was in high school and dating a girl my dad told me the worst thing you could do to your life right now is get someone pregnant so use a condom.

When I was about to go on my first date...
...I think I was 17, (ziggy=loser)...

....My dad said, "make sure you wrap it up."

My dad made the obligatory condom statement when I started dating and I always got the sense that if I ever had any questions, I could always come to them. I pretty much learned about it on my own and from talking with friends though. Sex talk and parents just don't mix, no matter how clinical it is.

Didn't we already do this one?

The answer is NO. My parents probably would rather have sawed off one of their limbs than talk frankly about sex.

When I was 12, my mother caught me masturbating. She was horrified and told me I should save it for marriage. About a month later, she asked me how I was doing with that. I said, "Pretty good, I've saved about a gallon so far."

I learned everything I needed to know about sex from James Joyce and William S. Burroughs books.

When I was 17 (!) my dad nervously asked me if I had any questions about sex. (I'm fairly certain my mother nagged him into giving me "the talk") While a couple of facetious questions came to mind, I took pity on him and just said "no." He looked mighty relieved.
