The pair of films are inspired by the grindhouse film genre of the 70s and 80s, as well as the 2007 theatrical pairing of Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. The genre was revived in 2007 when Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino each contributed one film to the double release, “Grindhouse”.
