Audio/Video Quality: The picture was presented in non-anamorphic widescreen with an aspect ratio of 1.85:1. For a feature shot over two years ago, it looked pretty solid, especially since it was obvious that the movie wasn't one of Digital Playground's big budget releases. The fleshtones were accurate, the grain minimal, and the video noise mostly nonexistent. It looked to be recorded on film but that could've been part of the processing that is sometimes used on adult features. On the flip side, the picture wasn't as sharp and crisp looking as I prefer but we all have our own preferences in that regard. The audio was presented in 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround English (at least that's how my receiver listed the encoding). While the separation between the channels was minimal (at best), the vocals were generally decent and the music mixed decently so as not to compete with them.
Body of Review: Robby D. has long been known as an up and coming talent in the porn world. That doesn't mean he's without his share of flops but on average, he does a good job at showcasing attractive women having warm sex in front of the camera while displaying some humor by not taking life too seriously. His contract with Digital Playground has allowed him to improve his skill by focusing more on quality than the quantity his former employer required of him and it shows. As a guy that can direct features, gonzo and hybrids with an ease rare to porn (most directors show a talent for only a single genre), he always seems to address his audience with a knowing eye to what they want. Such is the case with the latest release by Digital Playground, Mind Reader, a movie that parodied the mainstream hit, What Women Want. Mike Horner plays an office worker that is pushed around and taken advantage of by those around him until fate gives him the power to read everyone's minds. This leads to all the usual sexual hijinks between those around him and in the end, he prevails against all odds. It was a minimal plot in all but the sex was pretty good and varied enough to keep most couples happy. If this sounds good to you, read the following breakdown of scenes by cast:
Scene One: Lacey, a lean black gal with a nice body and attractive face, had a scene in the office with the massive Lee. She was the boss's wife and he played the manager who kept his job by keeping her happy. He initiated the sex by going down on her and she reciprocated by giving him some fair head. The two boned in a couple of positions and he planted his seed upon her face. The energy level here was minimal and the chemistry nonexistent, a rarity in a Digital Playground movie these days.
Scene Two: Avy, a super hot blonde with just the right combination of good looks and sexual aggressiveness, having had an "almost scene" earlier in the movie, got lucky when Tanya, another attractive blonde, took her in the copy room. Lesbian sex is hit or miss with fans these days but most straight men appreciate at least one such scene in their porn features. The two went down on one another and stuck with using their fingers to get each other off, something I think really happened here. There were no huge toys or circus act sex and that helped make the scene a pleasure to watch. The two enjoyed a lot of chemistry together and the energy level was pretty good.
Scene Three: Sunrise, another super hot blonde, was in the back room at work and wanting a snack from Jay. This was the all-natural version of Sunrise and she looked good enough to eat, if you catch my drift, making the scene a winner as long as she seemed to enjoy the proceedings. She gave him some decent head, using her eyes, hands and tongue to full effect before he gave her some licks of his own. While he boned her with a condom, it wasn't all that noticeable so those of you who don't care about performer's health shouldn't be too put off at the scene's use of them. They screwed in a couple of positions but had far more heat than the first male/female scene of the movie. It ended with a facial after showing some true warmth.
Scene Four: Ryan, one of porn's less heralded performers, kept the blonde motif up as she masturbated in her office by her desk. Her black lingerie accentuated her curves nicely and this prepared her for the following action with Mike. He joined her in the office and the two had a more tender scene together as they undressed and kissed a little. He went down on her slowly and she acted in kind. This kind of action is popular in couples-oriented releases since it appears more "real" and also is more like real life in general. They screwed in a couple of positions and she took the facial but it was done in a manner that appealed to me on more levels than the usual frantic boning.
Summary: I think Mind Reader is worthy of a Recommended rating due to the attractive cast of women, the warmth of the performances, and the overall direction of the movie. Mind Reader seems to be one of those efforts that will appeal to couples who aren't interested in the circus act sex that so many companies have been pushing in recent years; I just wish it were released closer to the date it was made. In short, it was a pleasant movie for pleasant people wanting to get off with some class.
