Extra's: As a fan of audio commentaries, I liked the one provided here with Chanel St. James, post production director Trout Pimp (calling himself something similar but different; Lord Trout), editor Johnny 5, and animator Bruce Marina. I liked how the men focused largely on technical matters, covering them in great detail, while she focused on her perceptions and provided some interesting anecdotes about the movie (and working for Club Jenna in general). There were some other decent extras this time too with most of you probably going to like the 8 minute masturbation sequence by Chanel St. James and the 6 minute solo scene by Jasmine Tame the most. Neither one really stretched any boundaries or limits but extra sex is always a welcome extra so you really can't go wrong with it here either. Besides that, both gals were very physically appealing in their respective scenes so fans take note to check these out. Chanel St. James also starred in a 4.5 minute long showcase where there was a montage, some interview footage, and a few blooper clips from the movie. There was also a very amusing 9.5 minute long Behind the Scenes feature that had the cast enjoying a lot of good times as they were readied for their scenes (with some nudity and sex; also using funny titles for the cast). There were also trailers to shows like Insexts, McKenzie Illustrated, Sophia Syndrome, McKenzie Made, Deep In Style, Krystal Method and other projects as yet unreleased.

Audio/Video Quality: Chanel No. 1 was presented in a non-anamorphic, letterboxed widescreen with an aspect ratio of about 1.85:1 as shot by director Laurent Skye/Richard Hamilton for Club Jenna. I hope future efforts apply anamorphic widescreen HD to them but I know that the industry is in transition at this writing so we'll have to see what happens (Vivid has announced releasing some truly high definition titles early next year). The colors looked accurate, the lighting was a mixture of various techniques that sometimes worked better than others, the level of grain typically minimal, and the composition of the shots better than I recall Nikita's Extreme Idols having in terms of making the performers look better. There were no compression artifacts, no video noise, and while I would've liked more of a straightforward approach to the scenes, the movie wasn't bad looking at all. The only effect that I really didn't like was the great overuse of motion de-hancement; something some of his peers favor too strongly too. The 5.1 Dolby Digital English audio track was kind of basic but the vocals instilled a sense of heat in several of the scenes and the music, while offensively loud and obnoxious, wasn't the worst I've heard from Walt Jizzney. There wasn't a lot of separation between the channels and the dynamic range lacked a bit but I didn't get the sense that the audio was blown off here at all, helping to elevate the quality of the production a bit.
Body of Review: Laurent Sky is currently one of the more stylish directors in porn, sometimes going very overboard with his work at Club Jenna. Still, having access to some of the most attractive ladies in porn must mess with his head and the ramblings of a critic aside, at least the guy tries to provide something different from the masses of gonzo directors out there. His latest release is a showcase for Chanel St. James called Chanel No. 1, billed on the front cover as Gonzo Sex in a Feature Film [with] No Condoms. Okay, it wasn't a feature (no plot or story), the sex was not gonzo (it was vignette sex that never recognized the cameraman), but there were no condoms and it was well made in most ways, regardless of semantic issues. The back cover described it as: "Bringing us another stunning debut for Club Jenna is director Laurent Sky with his newest masterpiece, "Chanel No 1". Watch as Chanel immediately captivates us with her incredible FIRST EVER on screen, hardcore performance. Chanel sexually explodes as she travels through golden fusion and high tech sets from futuristic backdrops to hot girl on girl action at the ice cream parlor. Chanel is sexy and proves that she's got what it takes to be one of the newest Club Jenna Girls." In fairness to the fine folks at Club Jenna, they have been making significant strides in catering to their target audience and Chanel was an excellent choice to center the movie on. If you like what I've said so far, here's a quick look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were observed at all:
Scene One: Chanel St. James, the hotty featured on the front DVD cover in her first on screen male/female action released (her actual first scene was with Reno but it remains in the vaults for now), took a dominant role in her satin blue corset, as she smoked her cancer stick in the presence of muscular Tommy Gunn. Summary: Chanel No. 1 by director Laurent Sky for Club Jenna was far too short for me to fully appreciate but fans of Chanel St. James will find it a marvelous showcase of why she was a wise choice by the company to pick as a contract gal. Her face and sexual skills combined to make her a top notch babe, with the energy and chemistry levels making the short scenes fairly sweet to watch. In short, Chanel No. 1 had some solid replay value, strokability, and technical values that were not my type but still very much like one would expect from the company. For her fans, I'd rate this one as Recommended though others might want to rent it first to make sure it is their type of show. Thankfully, I have it on very good authority that most Vivid and CJ titles will be adding more extras and greater length to the movies themselves in the not too distant future, a factor that will allow me to remove some of my qualifiers for their work.
