Extra's: My favorite extra was the full length audio commentary by Jim Holliday, Chloe Dior, and a couple of his later regulars that went uncredited (and they kept really shy about participating too). Jim led the group in comments as always, but he must've been sick given the way he didn't continually talk when the ladies weren't filling the space (I got the impression he was pissed off about something too). The 13 minute Behind the Scenes feature by Wit Maverick (shot for this one and Aces in the Holes at the same time with footage from each) was hilarious thanks in large part to the editing and some of the silliness that went on during the shoot (heck, even Henri Pachard was on set; a guy I got the impression didn't impress Jim). The cast and crew had a lot of fun and it was evident from looking at Jim that his medical problems were catching up with him but I have to hand it to Wit and the folks at VCA for allowing some of the comments to make it into the feature. There were also some minimal Star Bios, trailers for movies like Floss, Paradise Hole, Sorority Sex Kittens 3, Little Town Flirts, Eye Candy Refocused, Perfect Smiles, Brown Eyed Blonde, Timeless, a photogallery, a bit on the multiple angles used, and a jump to the scene bit too.

Audio/Video Quality: Perfect Pouts was presented in the originally filmed 1.33:1 ratio full frame color as shot by director Jim Holliday for VCA Pictures back in November 2002 concurrently with Aces in the Holes. The picture was crystal clear and had a wonderfully diverse cast as seen on the front DVD cover. The fleshtones were accurate thanks in large part to the flat and plentiful lighting, eliminating grain and other visual defects in a manner I wish contemporary companies would at least consider. The C-light use was a bit off as discussed on the audio commentary by Jim but it was still better than most of his competition at the time. This was one of the Holliday flicks where few budget considerations came into play, coming off as great looking if not the best the man had to offer at this stage in his career. The audio was presented in the usual 2.0 Dolby Digital English with the vocals very solidly captured and the music still a cut above the pack as far as I was concerned. The music was trademark Jim Holliday style with Reno & the Rumrunners with Jan, Derol, & the Steamrollers on back up duties this time (with a tune or two from N. Earl Sly and the West Salsa Border Jumpers too). There was the normal range of music here for those who care but the movie seemed to be more of an after thought or filler in between the other movie made at the same time.
Body of Review: Jim Holliday shuffled off this mortal coil about four years ago but he went out with the proverbial bang for VCA Pictures; making more movies in his last year or two then at any time in his career. He finished off 2002 with Perfect Pouts and Aces in the Holes, made at the same time with Pouts being the subject of today's review. The cover said it like this: "Aspiring actresses work at the dingy Golden Dreams Cafe, serving winos with broken dreams, while dreaming of the big break and silver screen stardom. Fans and critics always seem to use the word "superior" when describing the sex in Jim Holliday movies. Well, Perfect Pouts provides offbeat banter leading to scenes that are one step above Holliday's standards. It will rank as one of his truly oddball sleeper gems..." Here's a quick look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that condoms were not used in every scene but they were plentiful:
Scene One: Amythiest Stone, the lean cutie on the bottom row (second from the right), was up first as she bent over the diner counter to allow the massive Lee Stone access to lick her ass after she blew him. This moved into him boning her cookie really hard as she bounced back to meet his thrusts. She was a talker and that elevated the heat a bit before she took his huge rod in her ass (the lighting, often referred to as K-Mart lighting, was slightly off at times due to a guy that Holliday said would never work for him again but it still looked pretty good). The scene ended with him rubbing out a load to her mouth, with the credits rolling after that.
Scene Two: Olivia Saint, the blonde featured on the right hand side of the BACK cover, Ryan Connors, the curvy gal on the top row of the front cover (second from the left), and Alex Sanders, were up next as part of a virtual tribute to Green Acres. Ryan and Alex played hillbilly types trying to cheat her on some car repairs (a theme addressed in previous movies too) and she angrily denied them unless they were going to suck her "big fucking toe". The next thing you know, everyone was sucking ass and eating each other, the gals getting rimmed before they double teamed his cock. Ryan then took him straight in the ass, with Olivia going anal afterwards; no condom used. He jerked off to the ass and the scene ended.
Scene Three: Felecia (top row, second from the right), Tanya Danielle (bottom row, second from the left), Chloe Dior (top row, first on the right), Olivia Saint (back cover), and Carolyn Monroe/Candace Heart (top row, first on the left), were up in a lesbian quintet that was a spoof on a French artistic movie. The humor aside, the blondes orally ganged up on brunette Felecia with the usual emphasis on rimming. There was a bunch of toy use too but the lighting issue aside, it seemed like a number of set ups that weren't properly tied together. I thought some of the pairings (they kept breaking off into smaller groups) worked much better than others but it was a lot of fun with the ladies.
Scene Four: Kelli Passion, in her feature porn debut (bottom row, first on the right), and Felecia, were up next outside in the natural sunlight under the shade of the trees on the blanket. This was one of the more tender lesbian scenes. The toy use was minimal but the couple going at it to music that sounded much like a derivative porn version of Against the Wind worked nicely. They didn't talk much in the scene, lowering the heat for me somewhat, the ladies spending ample time with titties too.
Scene Five: Shayla LaVeaux (not on the cover), Amythiest Stone, and Alex Sanders, were up next in the little diner as Shayla and Alex hit on the waitress played by Amy. The sex played out like most of Holliday's latter scenes, substantial rimming and head given by all, with Shayla proving a few miles on the chassis didn't minimize her ability to warm things up on the small screen. It wasn't Shayla's best work by a long shot but it was well worth watching as it provided some genuine warmth when the ladies did each other. There wasn't as much foot fetish material as in other movies by Jim (something true of the whole movie in fact) but the way the scene appeared to be paced was great (getting warmer and warmer as they got into the action with one another). The facial closed things out as he coated both of them, quickly moving to another scene.
Scene Six: Olivia Saint, still playing the wannabe actress looking for a break in the business, used her feminine wiles on the massive Lee Stone to captivate his attention on the bed. He ate her, she blew him, then they screwed vaginally and anally. She was largely passive this time, weakening the scene for me, but he gave her a good poking so I couldn't hate it completely. On the commentary, Jim fussed at her nail polish color (as he was apt to do sometimes) but even he seemed happy with her sexual skills. It ended with a facial after her only active anal position salvaged the scene.
Scene Seven: Tanya Danielle and Chloe Dior closed out the comforter on the lawn, one of the most frequent locations for sex in the movie. There was a lot of oral and the couple did some decent ass licking but it really struck me as a filler scene, with the large toys employed and fake moaning throughout. Still, Tanya was in decline at the time this was shot and Chloe seemed on the rise so I can understand why it didn't quite work in terms of disparate energy between the two.
Summary: Perfect Pouts by director Jim Holliday for VCA Pictures was not the penultimate porno by the guy but it was a cute little fluff piece worthy of a Recommended. The cast was a bit shy of his better work and some of the pairings did not have the usual chemistry but there seemed to be other issues going on at the same time too, marking it as a decent but not superior effort. In short, Perfect Pouts: Special Edition was a "bullshit little feature" according to the director. The lighting was off at times and the editing did not seem up to par for the guy but it was a solid package compared to many similar features made at the same time.
