Audio/Video Quality: Jack's POV 6 was presented in the usual (for them at least) 1.85:1 ratio anamorphic widescreen color as shot by director Robby D. for Digital Playground. If you've read my numerous reviews of his works in the past, you'll already know that I find his work to be better than average, usually a LOT better than average, in many ways thanks to the way he shoots gonzo in a manner that doesn't require silly artistic effects or enough lighting to overpower the mothership from Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Instead, Robby tries to enhance the looks of the ladies by virtue of crafting the lighting, tailoring it to suit their best attributes, with occasional slight of hand used to distract the viewer from some of the inherent flaws many performers appear to have these days. Part of that process uses the editing skills of guys like Nick "The Wiz" P., an underappreciated production assistant that takes raw footage and weaves it into the "gold" that Robby is constantly carrying on about, but the textured manner in which Robby shoots has only recently been copied by a handful of daring peers, none of which have appeared to understand the larger picture as well as he does (despite what the fast forward reviewers may try to lead you to believe). As a guy raised on reviewing during the last few years of Jim Holliday's reign at VCA Pictures, I have made it clear that I like copious amounts of lighting but ever so slowly, Robby has been chiseling away at my outer edges to the point where I now tend to see more of what he has sought to provide; a picture that adds to the qualities of the ladies rather than peels away at their stage persona as if under a microscope. The fleshtones were accurate, the amount of distracting video noise or other elements appeared to be negligible, and the POV (point of view) camera angle was employed in every scene to allow the viewer the opportunity to fantasize about themselves in the place of the male performers. The audio was presented in the usual 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround but outside of the introductory commercial for the process, there appeared to be no separation in the vocal tracks and the music wasn't a big issue here so you won't be showcasing your new home theatre with this one.
Body of Review: Digital Playground has spent the last few years evolving from a feature company that did pretty porn on the side to a gonzo company that provides nearly equal footing to the artistic (pretty porn) endeavors with the occasional feature tossed in for awards. The leading force behind this change of output has been director Robby D.; one of the few men in porn with sufficient technical training to make the cross over to other fields if he wanted, giving him a lot more freedom to do what he wants rather than just earn a paycheck or cater to critics. Next month, he will release Jack's POV 6, the latest in his point of view series where he shoots the ladies as though he was having sexual relations with them, allowing the viewer to imagine he was in Jack's place having a good time. I have grown to like this type of flick when done properly and the usual casting at the company tends to give them a decided edge over the wannabe companies clinging on to their existence these days, even if they drop the ball from time to time as well. If you're still interested, here's a quick look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were present:
Scene One: Kimberly Franklin, a busty brunette stripper from Canada, was waiting for her friend when Jack and Scott Nails took advantage of the situation. He had her top off in moments and she was blushing but the rest of the clothing came off soon enough and the lack of straightforward tease was a downer but given her looks alone, I could see why so many people are dying to see everything she's in. It wasn't long before the tease alone made the scene worthwhile for me to appreciate by itself but her sexual skills seemed to be a bit weaker than average this time; with a good hummer but a passive vaginal ride. When she comes into her own in porn, I strongly suspect that few will be able to touch her ability to drain men dry (or at least provide sufficient inspiration for them to do it themselves) but this was another of her scenes where the appeal was best left with the tease and oral; the gal coming across like a newcomer too readily. It ended when he rubbed out a facial while she was on her knees, finishing up the movie in a mixed fashion.
Summary: Jack's POV 6 by director Robby D. for Digital Playground was one of the times when all the technical expertise couldn't save it from lackluster performances by the majority of cast members. Shy was great and Shay looked incredible but the lack of chemistry, heat, and enthusiasm outside of a mechanical manner really kept this one from shining; and there was nothing Nick or Robby could do about it so I rated it as a Rent It but even that struck me as being slightly generous. In short, Jack's POV 6 was one of the rare examples when even a great team up cannot save a porn flick from the performers when said performers are having an off day. Oh well, the positive thing is that there are plenty of better POV flicks and Robby has already shown his ability to capture better performers at work in the past so check out one of the previous volumes in the series if you want to have some intimate time with your hand.
