On Location With Simon Wolf
I hate to say it, but some porno movies make zero sense to me. "On Location with Simon Wolf" is one of them. Before I popped the movie into my DVD player, I was expecting a compilation of some of the best scenes in Simon Wolf's movies. Unfortunately, what I got was a documentary about four Simon Wolf productions, intertwined with quick scenes from those movies. For instance, the resident porn goofball, Evan Stone, makes dumb faces for the camera, then we see him getting a blowjob for a few seconds, and then Simon Wolf says "cut." This whole process continues throughout the documentary.
Personally, I just don't get it. Is there really a market for a behind the scenes documentary about making adult movies? I mean, they are not masterpieces, in fact, they're far from it. I don't care how they're made, just as long as they're made.
If you're wondering, there is a lot of sex on this DVD. There are lots of close-ups, positions, and cumshots. The problem is that it's all clipped. To build and sustain "momentum" throughout this DVD is near impossible. Especially with all the shenanigans, crewmembers, and cameras present behind the scenes. Normally I rate scenes based on my Kleenex Scale, but I'll save it for you know, actual sex scenes.
The full-frame 1.33:1 presentation looks fantastic. Unlike most porno DVDs, there is very little, if any grain and artifacting present. Colors are sharp and vivid, and there's no dirt on the print whatsoever. Overall, this could be the best transfer I've yet to see for a porn.
A 2.0 soundtrack sounds very clean. Interviews with the porn stars, Simon Wolf, and the actual sex acts sound clear as day. But seriously, are you really buying the DVD for the audio? Well, if you're getting this DVD for the documentary, you'd probably also want good audio. Well, this DVD has it.
Interactive menus as soft sexy music loops over and over again. Everything is easily accessible.
An interview with Simon Wolf, bios, and previews is what you get here.
I'm sorry, but this was the most boring adult DVD I have reviewed so far. But honestly, it's not their fault. I don't think this DVD was ever intended to be anything more than a two hour behind the scenes featurette. Therefore, "Rent It" if you're interested in learning about the behind the scenes stuff in porno, otherwise "Skip It" entirely.
