Extra's: The best extra of note would be the 22 minute long Behind the Scenes feature. It gave Ava Vincent a chance to talk about a bunch of things and interact with her real life boyfriend, Kurt Lockwood. The others had a chance to get in on the action too and I liked it overall more than most BTS features I watch. The other extras included some trailers and a photogallery but they were nothing special.

Audio/Video Quality: The picture was presented in the usual 1.33:1 ratio full frame color, as most porn is made these days. My biggest problem with the movie was the poor lighting, which caused a host of other problems with the picture. From lots of grain to video noise to simply being unable to see the action, the lighting really messed up the heat of this one. I didn't see any compression artifacts and the DVD was otherwise okay (aside from some pattern noise caused by fishnet stockings) but that lighting really hurt the fun with this one. The audio was presented in stereo English in the MPEG format rather than the superior Dolby Digital more companies have been turning to for improved sound. The sound wasn't as bad as much of the picture but it wasn't very well handled either, with the mix somewhat weak and the dynamic range lacking.

Body of Review: Sex Z Pictures is one of those newer companies that has recently signed on a few veteran directors (Roy Karch and Skye Blue come to mind) in order to make it's mark in the wonderful world of porn. With all the choices on the market, yet another company is always welcome if it can provide something new, something better, or even something more interesting than whatever else the market has to offer. In their first offering to the public (per director Roy Karch in the BTS feature), Deconstructing Ava, the company offers a movie that supposedly looks into the mind of a young woman, Ava Vincent, and sees what kind of fantasies she enjoys. In all, the movie had little coherence to the plot and the technical values were all over the place, making me wonder if something forced its release before it was ready. That said, lets take a look at the scenes by cast, noting that many of the ladies in the movie were well known hotties:

Scene One: Keiko, a gal with just a bit of Japanese in her (1/8th), had a scene at a strip club with old man Tony on a couch in a private room. Neither did very well here with the generic formula something I'd expect out of an Adam & Eve movie. The oral was mechanical, the straight sex boring and the anal so slow as to make me wonder if she noticed he was inside her. The technical qualities were all over the map too, making me wonder what happened.

Scene Two: Cherokee, one of the hottest gals in porn right now due to her thick thighs (by virtue of muscle, not fat), her perfect ass, long black hair, squeaky voice, and beautiful face, had a scene in a dark movie theatre with Steve. The lighting really hurt this one since it was so low and while I like pretty much everything this cutie is in, I wasn't overly happy with this scene. They did the usual oral and straight sex and she seemed to enjoy it with this being her first time to work with Steve, but the technical qualities were lacking again.

Scene Three: Lauren, a statuesque gal noted for hot scenes and good looks, enjoyed a scene with Cheyne this time. Pimped out by Ava, she was his to do with as he pleased, starting off with some foreplay on her lovely, all-natural breasts and working his way south as she allowed him. The lighting here was better than the earlier scenes and she looked good as he pleasured her but problems arose when it came time for her to blow him. The shadows weren't always terrible but on balance they were too frequent. Once they started screwing, things got better and she put a lot of energy into the scene, meeting him thrust for thrust. He jerked off to her stomach at the end and it was the best scene by this point in the movie.

Scene Four: Joelean, a hot blonde with a lean, dancer's body, climbed aboard the Barrett train to blow him when he demanded she do so. She used a lot of energy to get him hard and wet, something she has proven able to do many times in the past (how can any guy resist her charms?). He didn't snack on her crack, preferring to ride her deep instead, and after several positions of solid sex, he popped off on her face and in her mouth. This was another good scene.

Scene Five: Ava, a long time fan favorite (even when she went by the name Jewel Valmont) and the lead of the movie, displayed on the front DVD cover, had a scene in bed with her real life boyfriend, Kurt. They spent considerable time making out and otherwise enjoying themselves before he went down on her with some passion usually reserved for someone you care about. Her own oral skills were great here as she inhaled him all the way, and soon enough, they were screwing on the bed. Each rode the other this time, neither sparing any quarter as they fucked hard, and it ended when he jerked off onto her back, coating it from neck to ass. Whew!

Summary: Man, I'm torn on this one because it had a cast of several of my favorite performers giving some decent, if not earth-shattering performances. The Behind the Scenes feature was fun to watch and to be a pal, I'll nudge this one up a bit and rate it as a low end Rent It. I know that AVN's Mark Kernes rated it pretty highly but he was also in the cast so you can guess how that all worked out. For the most part, I think the company has the potential to offer some good releases but they need to find better technicians or they'll be wasting their money. Deconstructing Ava started off really weakly but did make a come back of sorts so check it out if you like the cast.
