Extra's: The best extra for most fans would probably be the bonus scene from Blue Angel; the original release. It was between Steven and Monique DeMoan with some nice action and lasted over 21 minutes. My favorite extra, however, was a 15 minute long Behind the Scenes feature by Don Fischer. It had most of the cast getting some screen time and talking about their roles in the movie; humanizing them in many ways for me. Other extras included 5 interviews (billed as biographies) that each lasted between about four and five minutes long, four trailers, a photogallery, and a double sided DVD cover. While I'm not sure why the extras were placed on a second DVD, I generally don't complain about such things since it gives the DVD mastering company more room to work with.

Audio/Video Quality: The picture was presented in the usual 1.33:1 ratio full frame color, as originally shot. The lighting was even and this kept the grain down to a very low level with no compression artifacts observed at any time. There was a tiny bit of pattern noise during a couple of moments but nothing most straight people would notice unless they were reviewing for a major internet website (cough). There were a few moments where the picture was too saturated but I think those were conscious artistic decisions made by the director and I don't want to tear him apart for trying something that ultimately didn't look bad, just limited, once in a while. Overall though, the sum of the parts didn't equal the best picture I've seen from a Simon Wolf movie and I'd have to say I was a bit surprised since their features have long been held as an industry standard. The audio was presented in 2.0 Dolby Digital stereo English with a bit of separation between the channels, some moderate dynamic range, and a well planned mixture of vocals and music accompanied by appropriate sound effects. While this one wasn't going to compete with the best releases from some of the big budget companies' best efforts, it was certainly ahead of the pack in terms of its audio.

Body of Review: Nearly two years ago, I started reviewing for this website having left another that I believed to be violating the principles of fair play. My disgust stemmed from the way a small company, Simon Wolf Productions, was unfairly targeted for a boycott by a few self-righteous assholes trying to make a name for themselves. My first review here was for a title I've always held a warm place for in my loins, Blue Angel. It was a feature about a guy played by Steven St. Croix who, as a gangster, was given a chance at redemption after death if he'd change his ways and help people. While the plot elements were not always fleshed out as well as I would've liked, I really enjoyed the movie on several levels, and still do to this day. Unlike some companies, Simon Wolf has never been one to rest on their laurels and play out a movie with endless sequels in order to cash in on a franchise. Contrast that with all too many of their peers who run such series into the ground all the time. Well, the wait was over for me as the company finally released a sequel to that favored hit, Blue Angels: The Second Coming. The movie followed the continuing adventures of Tough Tony and Joe Doggs (played by Steven and veteran performer Herschel Savage), as they try to save the day from a vicious plot to save Heaven from the Devil's destructive plan (using a computer virus to screw up who gets into the pearly gates). Like the first movie, this one relied more on sex (it is a porno after all) than plot but it was cute enough to let my remote control take a rest for the length of the screening. There were also some side plots taking place and I only wish that the stioory elements had been given a little more room to breathe since they were often very funny (writer Simon Wolf has a flair for fantasy and comedy, he just has a hard time finding female performers who can also act). While I would've enjoyed seeing Asia Carrera reprise her role too, I understand the way porn works and set out to rate this movie independent of my desire to see her one last time in action before she retired. Here's a breakdown of the scenes by cast if you're still interested:

Scene One: Kelly, the young all-natural cutie featured on the front DVD cover, was naturally up first. She played the antagonist of the movie, a corporate bigwig wanting to crush a shelter in order to make money who boned Dale for kicks here. I can see why she and her husband (in a rare non-sex appearance) signed for Simon Wolf this year at the AEE Show; her fresh nature and winning smile made for a killer combination. While I admit to rubbing elbows with the couple, I also have routinely pointed out that they usually lack the energy of other performers in their scenes (they usually only work together) so it was a nice change of pace to see her working with someone else this time. The sex was limited to oral and straight only but it wasn't all that exciting here either. I liked watching them but wanted more (maybe someone offers a class in performing sex acts in front of the camera?). Regardless, her look was enough to keep me watching and I hope her potential is more fully utilized in later projects.

Scene Two: Eva, a cute little gal with an all-natural body dressed as a cheerleader with pigtails and glasses, was next up. If you prefer the barely legal look, as many of you have written to tell me about, you'll fancy this gal in action a lot. Her partner for the scene was Chris and the two seemed to really like screwing together as they also did the oral and straight mambo. The energy and chemistry combined to make a scene with plenty of replay value; making me realize why she's so popular after being in porn for hardly any time at all. While this wasn't her most extreme scene, it showed her versatility at looking good in a feature so maybe she'll do more of them soon.

Scene Three: Lezley, the lean, raven-haired gal that routinely shows a bit of experience makes for a better show, was up next as she had a scene with the mighty Evan. He played the Devil (a common character for him) at least as well as anyone else in porn has over the years (sorry Tina) and she was set to satisfy him like no other. I don't think she has ever made a truly bad scene and more often than not, her work is exceptionally warm with lots of chemistry. This was on the warm end even for her and I kind of wish she had been the lead here since she has the acting ability to pull off the role better than the lovely Kelly. Mark this as a great use of her in a scene with it proving to be tied for best scene of the show. Yum!

Scene Four: Nyomi, a cute Asian gal with killer curves, and Kayla, one of the more underappreciated babes in porn these days, had a lesbian scene that didn't really fit in with the movie all that much. While the sex was limited to the usual rubbing and licking, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the two since they appeared to be getting off at least once apiece. On the down side though, the scene was too short for my tastes (it seemed to fly by too quickly for me), leaving me hanging in terms of self love. Each gal brought her own talents and appeal to the scene so I guess it's safe to say that they should be used in more scenes in the future (I'd lick the sweat off either of their butts…).

Scene Five: Dana, one of the hottest gals in porn, used her nearly perfect body in a scene with Herschel to really shine. I've seen her in a lot of movies over the last few years and never have I thought she was phoning in her scene as so many of her peers do when they're having an off day. Luckily, my luck with her held out and the scene with old Mr. spotted dick was as solid as ever. This scene even included some mighty warm anal to rev up my engines but the oral and straight sex proved that he wasn't ready for pasture either. Her intensity, even in a feature instead of her usual gonzo, was great and I think this scene tied for hottest of the movie. Whew!

Scene Six: Kelly, still looking fit and trim (waiting to be fucked hard), and Steven, had the last scene of the show. I think these two worked well together and definitely had some more chemistry than her previous scene but she has shown in past scenes with her husband that chemistry alone doesn't cut it; there needs to be energy and desire too. In any case, the couple had the most vanilla scene of the movie and I was once again left hanging a bit by them, even though I thought she was cute enough to watch the scene a couple of times. One of the mysteries of porn for me this year has been how a gal so cute and desirable can fail to make good scenes as often as her? I hope to find out someday but in the meantime, I'll have to be content that she looked very good, even if her performance wasn't all that great.

Summary: I liked the attractive cast and sexual antics enough to rate this one as Recommended to fans of feature films in porn. While I think Bud Lee would've tightened up the technical aspects a bit more and that the gals here were chosen solely for their ability to milk a nut rather than any acting skill, I'd be misleading you if I said I wasn't going to keep this DVD set on my shelf for those few cold days we see here in Houston this winter. I have truly missed seeing more features from Simon Wolf, their focus having switched to gonzo and vignette these days, and this was a fitting tribute to the days of old and hopefully days to come in the near future. Even companies like Wicked Pictures and Digital Playground have had some sequels fall a bit flat before rising like a phoenix to make their best stuff so I'm hoping Simon Wolf follows in this vein to rise once again (especially now that they've signed a distribution deal with the growing Pure Play Media-a true powerhouse in porn these days). If you're looking for circus act sex, look elsewhere but feature porn lovers rejoice that Simon Wolf is back to making features in an ever shrinking market. Even years later, I still look forward to their releases and that isn't a small task given the crowded market these days.
