Extra's: Most fans of Mercedez will appreciate that all of the five bonus scenes have her in them. They ranged from production dates in 2002 to 2004 with several very fun scenes. I liked the extra scenes but found that none were made specifically for this DVD and that made them somewhat less appealing to me. For me, the best extra was the 11.5 minute long Behind the Scenes feature by both Ralph Parfait and Victoria Woodhill but I noticed that the audio wasn't in synch with the visuals and that bugged me. There were also two photogalleries, a number of trailers, a double sided DVD cover, a short biography for Mercedez, and a fetish menu.

Audio/Video Quality: The picture was presented in the usual 1.33:1 ratio full frame color, as originally shot by director Paul Thomas and his assistant, David Stotts (known for his many Behind the Scenes features at Vivid). While not perfect, the picture wasn't bad with minimal color issues and grain problems, with those caused by the uneven lighting in the scenes. I didn't see any compression artifacts or major amounts of video noise but it wasn't the clearest shoot from Vivid I've seen this year and the focus was lost more than a couple times in the movie (those are usually edited out in post production). The audio was presented in the usual stereo English and while the dynamic range was limited, the separation weak and the other aspects not exactly cutting edge, you could hear the moans and groans just fine.

Body of Review: Mercedez, the lovely brunette Texan found on the front DVD cover, has long been a Vivid contract performer that has flown under the radar of many critics. Her busty frame (implants) and lovely curves are indicative of a gal built for comfort, not for speed but she has a willing smile and seems to like having sex on camera so it's about time she be given a showcase for her talents that allowed her to be with a group of friends, having fun. The title I'm talking about is Diary of an Orgy from Vivid and it employed split screen technology to allow for various angles to be onscreen at once, cutting away to focus on a pairing as one became particularly heated. I've watched a lot of orgies on video in the past few decades and they are among the most difficult things to capture accurately but be it the lesbian antics of Jenna Jameson, the gonzo extremes of Red Light District, or the stylish groups from the Wicked Sex Parties, orgies offer something for everyone even if they are rarely as well done as the one on one scenes many fans prefer.

The action here was pretty good although subject to the same limitations most Vivid releases have with regard to extreme sex. I'm not the biggest supporter of circus act sex so you won't get an argument from me about the relative merits of one type of sex in an orgy over another; just make sure you know what you're getting into when you plop down your hard earned cash for a purchase or rental. The orgy here had the entire cast going at one another in a living room on some couches but also cut away to the individual gals on a regular basis having a moment by themselves in a reality type setting discussing the movie and their role in it. This also included some moments where the pictures were taken for the photogallery but I enjoyed seeing them talk about themselves as they masturbated in various states of undress.

Rather than point out each sex act in great detail like some seem prone to do, suffice it to say that fans of orgies will find this one enjoyable for all its limitations. The cast was well suited to the sex and fellow Texan Evan Stone assisted Mercedez in her hosting duties, hamming it up for the camera as usual. I wouldn't discount the individual scenes relative merits in terms of adding heat but this was solidly in the zone of couples porn in the main or auxiliary sex action so don't assume that a single orgy, as shown here, is the be all, end all, of the fun.

Of particular interest to my viewing pleasure was the energetic performance by Jamie, a gal with nice curves as well as a good attitude towards sex, all dressed up with fishnet stockings, and Sophia, a great looking gal that has long appealed to my libido. Mercedez looked as good as ever and the others were all made to look their best but the two mentioned earned a special place in my review for their way of handling the action that added plenty of replay value. The sex included plenty of oral, lots of vaginal and even some anal for those interested; lending some measure of comfort that Vivid is listening to the masses who are demanding more anal in all their porn these days. While I didn't think this was the best Vivid has to offer these days, I can safely say that it was worth a rating of Recommended to fans of the cast and those who aren't into the more extreme forms of circus act sex (which you won't see here, other than some PTM; pussy to mouth) and group sex).

Summary: For me, the masturbation sequences were as hot as the orgy itself and with a cast as lovely as this one, it's no wonder that Paul Thomas was put in charge. The technical values were better than average for a Vivid release and while the amount of fuck for your buck was low in regards to the feature (it was far too short), the bonus scenes all had Mercedez going at it and that is a pleasant enough change for me to compensate the rating for. If you're looking for a bleeding edge, top of the line circus act sex orgy, look elsewhere but if you want to see a decent cast having fun, you'll probably understand why I rated this one as Recommended.
