Extra's: The best extra, by far, was the 23 minute long Behind the Scenes feature. In it, the cast and crew gave some of their impressions of the movie, working with one another, and some background biographical data. As I recall, this was the first BTS feature that I ever watched in full due to its comprehensive nature and quality. There were also trailers, limited biographies of some of the cast, and a photogallery but only the BTS feature added any significant value for me.

Audio/Video Quality: The audio was presented in stereo English with Dolby Digital processing. The voices were mixed in at just the right level with the music and there were no blaring changes in levels like so many other features. The score was good without the normal disco or videogame soundtrack, something I wish other producers would consider working on more frequently. The video was presented in a very solid 1.33:1 ratio full frame color with both proper lighting levels and well thought-out angles. I noticed no digital artifacts during the movie (after watching it twice), the bit rate was very high throughout, and the transfer was very nicely done in general. Even after all these years, it still looks cutting edge in terms of the composition and technical aspects; standing the test of time nicely.

Body of Review: Long ago (in porn terms at least), a small company was introduced to the world in a partnership arrangement with Adam & Eve. The company, Simon Wolf, was following in the footsteps of Wicked Pictures, who also originally made a couple of great movies with the well known industry leader, so as to maximize their resources and begin what has been a good ride for them over the years. Based on the strength of a story based trilogy, starting with A Witch's Tail, several companies engaged in a bidding war to obtain the high quality titles Simon Wolf released, and now the company is snuggly tight being distributed by Pure Play Media, one of the few conglomerates to expand in recent years. I have fond memories of the movie in question as it was one of the first truly interesting features I had reviewed (for the record, I was the first reviewer anywhere to review it, either on the internet or in print), leading to a life of perversion on my part as I delved deeper into this hobby of mine. Here's what I said about the movie so long ago, with most of my comments holding up quite nicely:

The movie is about a lovely young writer, Asia, who gets involved in supernatural events. The movie is the first of a trilogy; the second being A Wolf's Tail which has it's trailer on this DVD. The movie included straight, anal, oral, facials, lesbian, and threesomes. Be forewarned that the movie does have a plot and acting which were very good for a porn movie so if you prefer wall to wall sex; forget it. You can always use your remote control to skip those parts if you must but give the cast a chance to strut their acting ability this once. Keeping in mind that director Bud Lee directed this movie as a means to showcase his lovely wife, Asia Carrera, in a feature that arguably revitalized her career at the time (sparing no expense I've been told), here's a brief look at the scenes by cast and action:

Scene One: The first sex scene had Julie and Chris in a civil war period piece. Except for minor details like her platform shoes and his USMC tattoo-the scene was fairly accurate. It also showed Julie's lovely natural body outdoors having a great time. The couple enjoyed each other and it showed throughout the scene as they did the oral and straight sex with a measure of energy reserved for real life couples (which they were not).

Scene Two: The next sex scene was between Cheyenne and Steve while Asia watched them. Both of the first two scenes were not only hot but you got to see them in the documentary so you have the inside scoop beforehand. Like all the scenes on this DVD, there was chemistry between the performers and it translated well. I've long considered this one of Cheyenne's best scenes, a fact that even she seemed to accept when I discussed it with her a few years back while she was touring.

Scene Three: The next scene is the first with Asia in it. She and Rayveness started out in bikinis by the pool and promptly shed them for a hot lesbian scene. If you like women with women-this one was among the best at the time.

Scene Four: The next scene was between Anna, Alexandra, and Joel. The three of them had a nice long and varied scene. Of all the performers, Anna was the one hamming it up the most in the non sex stuff but she delivered the goods when she was having sex. For the most part, Anna dominated the action and Joel could barely keep up with the vixen but I thought Alexandra had some solid moves too.

Scene Five: The last scene was between Asia and Jon. It was obvious that they liked each other and the scene reflected this fact. I'm not going to argue that Asia was the most sexually aggressive gal in the movie but I will point out that she provided a great combination of beauty and talent; making it easy to see why Bud was always so infatuated with her (he still speaks fondly of her, long after their divorce).

Summary: This was a great feature movie with enough beautiful and talented women to make anyone happy. The special effects were very good for a porn movie when this was made and contributed to the storyline. Some time, money, and effort went into this movie as well as the DVD transfer. I hope this trend continues in the future. I Highly Recommend this DVD for everyone's collection as a keeper, due to the sex, story and solid production values. I could hardly wait until the next chapter of the trilogy, A Wolf's Tail, came out when I found out the production values were going to be even higher. The addition of the documentary was great and made me wish for more. Perhaps in future releases, we'll have the performers describe what they liked best about their scenes and a longer documentary (this came true by the way). When I wrote the original review for the movie, I remember how most of Adam & Eve's releases were pretty lame compared to some of their competitors but this release turned the tide, at least for a little while. Simon Wolf Productions went on to bigger and better things over the years but this was the first title of theirs and it still brings a smile to my face and wood in my pants. Ah the good old days when I was less jaded and DVD was still fairly new…

This Don Houston "retro-review" was written long ago before the so-called Professor of Porn had much experience writing reviews. Since that time, he has found Adam & Eve to have a lot of good releases and seen more porn that almost anyone reviewing on the internet. Keep in mind that his comments accurately reflected his fresh viewpoint of the time he first saw the movie.
