Audio/Video Quality: The picture was presented in the same 1.33:1 ratio full frame that the show was shot in. The lighting was sound and there were no shadows or other problems to speak of. The flesh tones were accurate, the grain minimal, and the overall picture very solid. The audio was presented in a stereo English with minimal separation between the channels and limited dynamic range but you could most of the vocals clearly and the background music was better than average.

Body of Review: Nina Hartley has been in porn for over 15 years. She has won numerous awards for her work including Best Actress, Best Couples Scene, Best Supporting Actress, and was even placed in the AVN Hall of Fame. She is a licensed nurse and has a long list of credits in a variety of media. She has also performed in numerous charity events too; many of which were designed to promote safer sex, the porn industry or freedom of speech in general. With such a beefy background in education and health, is it any wonder that she was picked to helm a series of educational videos like Nina Hartley's Making Love To Men? The main goal of this DVD, and the entire Guide To… series, is to help educate people about a variety of sexual practices that are common in porn. The series is designed to help novices learn that sex can be fun in many ways. Those of us watching porn for years sometimes learn that practices we take for granted may be a bit advanced for someone not as comfortable with their pleasure as we are.

This DVD in the series focuses on making love to a man. For the record, I have no interest in doing so but it sure would've been nice if my various partners over the years had watched this DVD. We've all met prudes and women too hung up on what they've been taught in regards to enjoying sex and such a DVD might help ease such people into the 21st century of enjoying their sexual freedom, rather than worry about what "other people" might think. Let's face it, if your significant other were to view this DVD and act on the information learned here; what would that be worth to you? I'm betting a lot. It's not for those wanting to pleasure themselves; there are plenty of other DVD's for that purpose. So, with that said, here's a quick look at the scenes in the show:

Scene One: In the first scene, Nina gave a lecture while Herschel laid beside her and listened. He looked very uncomfortable compared to his normal outgoing self. Maybe he felt out of place with Nina in charge, I don't know. I do know that his hair seems to have lost all those pesky gray hairs he's had for years. I kind of liked his hair before the dye job and maybe he's smart enough to let it rest. He's almost 50 and his hair looks like it came out of a bottle. Nina spent a lot of time on the lecture and then proceeded to start working on Herschel. He relaxed more and the two started a long, paced session of sensual pleasure. It's obvious that Nina knew what she was talking about and that Herschel, like any other guy, responded well to her.

Scene Two: The next scene had Ian and Dayton in the background enjoying a long, drawn out session with each other. There were a few times when I wanted a DVD feature that would've allowed me to zoom over to them; perhaps a multiple angle-only because they looked good together. The sex wasn't the most graphic available but the couple had fun and so did I.

Scene Three: The third chapter was another scene between Herschel and Nina. It was set up as an example of what we learned earlier in the DVD. As a stand alone scene it was good and made for couples as a means to demonstrate the kind of sexual play Nina lectured about earlier.

Scene Four: It then progressed into the fourth chapter which had Kaylynn and Justine joining Nina and Herschel. After a few partner
switches, lucky old Herschel got to play with each of them and then all of them together. Kaylynn looked especially fresh here and each of the gals contributed to the action, something not always the case in a quartet scene.

Summary: This was another in Nina's series of DVD's that you'll want to own. The format was female friendly; far more than most porn, and should be a lot easier to use as a gateway movie (i.e.: getting your lover interested in adult movies) than 99% of everything else out there on the shelves of your local smut emporium. Hopefully, your girlfriend/wife/sex partner will pay attention and learn to please you better, making the value of this one very high if said person was in need of a bit of expertise (and aren't we all?). I'm going to rate this volume as Recommended for those of you seeking some assistance in this type of thing, a subject difficult to broach with most partners, keeping in mind that there's a guide to learning about pleasing women too (if you buy this one, you'd better play it safe and get that one too or your gal pal is going to smack you; hard!

This Don Houston "retro-review" was written long ago before the so-called Professor of Porn had much experience writing reviews. Since that time, he has found Adam & Eve to have a lot of good releases and seen more porn than almost anyone reviewing on the internet. Keep in mind that his comments accurately reflected his fresh viewpoint of the time he first saw the movie.
