Extra's: Evil Angel is known for having some of the best extras, usually focusing on extra sex footage, in the porn industry. This makes spending the extra money their releases cost a bit easier to swallow, if you catch my drift. This release was no exception to that rule and the 37 minutes of deleted footage included was better than most of the extras other companies include these days. There was also the usual cast list (helpful for reviewers), filmographies, a pop shot compilation, a biography for Rocco Siffredi, and a photogallery.

Audio/Video Quality: The Dark Side of Rocco was presented in the usual 1.33:1 ratio full frame color as originally shot by director Rocco Siffredi. Like most of his work, the lighting wasn't perfect so the shadows interfered more often than I prefer and also introduced some video noise at times. I saw no compression artifacts or serious visual flaws but the strength of a Rocco flick is not in technical excellence so much as his ability to get solid performances out of the cast (the entire cast). Regardless, the visual presentation wasn't bad and didn't typically detract from the sexual energy of most of the performances. The audio was presented in the usual stereo English but it had little dynamic range and no separation to speak of so you'll have to be content knowing the vocals could be heard fairly well and Rocco's directing wasn't as loud as it sometimes has been in the past.

Body of Review: Who doesn't know Rocco Siffredi; international porn star turned director? If you like porn, you almost have to know the guy or have seen his work since he's been around so long and is generally considered such a strong director for fans of hardcore gonzo porn. In any case, rumors about his retirement from porn seem to be flowing ever more freely these days but you wouldn't know it given the amount of titles he's released through his exclusive deal with Evil Angel in the last few years. I know a lot of fans will rue the day he stops churning them out but they have plenty of older titles to enjoy if he ever makes good on his promise to leave. The latest release by this legend is The Dark Side of Rocco, a movie that shows Rocco working with Michael Chapman, a black guy that seems to identify with Rocco's vision for porn. If you like interracial sex, you'll love this one since every scene had that kind of action and there was plenty of fuck for the buck to enjoy. That said, here's a quick look at the scenes by cast, action, and general energy levels:

Scene One: Kati, a very lean brunette with an all natural body was up first with Michael after he took her inside the bathroom from the courtyard. He fingered her a little bit in both holes to open her up enough for the coming action and she appeared to enjoy it enough to let him continue (although I didn't think she liked getting spanked). She then was forced to deep throat him and the gagging action proved to be enough to make her cry. With her makeup running down her face, he continued to play psychological games with her (basically fucking with her head) until she was exposed to Kid Jamaica, Attila B., Robert, Attila, Thomas, Laszlo, and Zsolt (the crowd gathered after she began doing them one by one). She did some anal but the primary manner in which she got them off was orally. Fans may enjoy that she had a long gape time that looked interesting given her long legs. It was purely mechanical with no chemistry to speak of but hardcore fanatics won't mind one bit.

Scene Two: Anna and Jasmine, both bleach blondes with a slightly harsh look but exceptional sexual skills, took on Jazz, Michael, and Titus, initially outdoors but then in a semi-medical setting. Michael had been established as Rocco's protégé by this point and was acting like he was in charge but at least this time the gals appeared to be somewhat into the sex. Each gal had her strong points with both doing some solid oral but the vaginal and anal seemed very easy for them too. With guys getting rimjobs and the gals almost competing for title of who could do more, the scene was actually pretty hot. It was very energetic at all times and I hope Rocco uses them again in the future.

Scene Three: Danni and Victoria, a very attractive set of contrasting gals (blonde and brunette) with equally attractive bodies, took care of Rocco, Michael, and each other at Rocco's mansion. The gals seemed less skilled sexually this time but they made up for it with a willingness to learn that is sadly absent in far too many domestic gals these days. While I didn't like the huge scar on Blondie's stomach, I thought she was the more attractive of the two (slightly at least) but her pal took anal better on the couch. Regardless, the foursome managed to convince me that inexperience can be a good thing too with some playful attempts at learning a new set of skills to earn their keep.

Scene Four: Alena, Mira, and Sarah, were the last gals to please the men; in this case, those men being Rocco, Michael, and Kid in the large living room. Summary: The Dark Side of Rocco was not the famed man's best release but it still had a lot to like about it. The cast wasn't as physically perfect as some of his older works, and they weren't the sexual dynamos Rocco has long employed for his movies but it was still a pretty fun ride. In short, the movie was fun enough, energetic enough, and had enough fuck for the buck to rate as Recommended with some nice extras to add value. If you like Rocco's past movies, this will be a no brainer to pick up but even the usual raincoater will want to look at it to make their decision.
