Extra's: For me, the best extra was the 15 minute long Behind the Scenes feature by Mark Stone. While it wasn't Mark's best work as a director (he directs movies as well as BTS features), it gave more insight to the movie than average. My only problem with it was how it focused almost exclusively on Brittney, to the exclusion of the other female cast members. The only other real extra was a photogallery although you could argue that the music videos were one too (they were incorporated into the feature itself but could be accessed separately as well.

Audio/Video Quality: Pornstar was presented in anamorphic widescreen color as shot by stylish director Michael Ninn. If you're looking for a highly edited (in MTV manner), highly stylish, porno, this might be just what you want. Dedicated to the late, great Jim Holliday, the movie would've caused dear old Jim to rant endlessly about NOT giving the audience what they wanted (I've listened to enough of Jim's audio commentaries to know he hated anything other than his own straightforward shoots) but I'd be willing to bet a small audience exists for this type of movie, given the amount of work that looked to be put into it. There were some compression artifacts but the movie looked very artistic and interesting (I just thought the effects drained much of the heat away). The stereo audio track was also interesting with the music taking center stage and the vocals typically relegated to the background.

Body of Review: Brittney Skye had an interesting year in 2004; owing much to the number of projects she was involved in that took her all across the map in terms of what, and who, she did onscreen. While she often comes off as a bit of a flake, I've seen her up close and personal with my initial impression of her somewhat positive in terms of how she handles her scenes. That said, today's review is of her most artistic release to date, Pornstar, a movie that claimed to be based on a fictional character but reminded me very much of the reigning queen in porn, Jenna Jameson. The movie was a fusion of music video and stylish porn story telling so the results were mixed (it might well be that director Michael Ninn is once again way ahead of his time, too far ahead though). If you're looking for something very much off the beaten track, here's a quick breakdown of the scenes by the cast:

Scene One: Brittney, having done her best Jenna Jameson impression as a pornstar, began the show with a masturbation scene that was highly edited as though it were a music video. She took her gold necklace and inserted it into her pussy after teasing the camera to the music. She then took on Tommy who paid for her services in a dark hallway. I had to admit that she was looking tighter than I had seen her to that point (a fact mentioned in the BTS feature too I might add) and the scene was pretty good, despite the overly edited sex that included oral and straight action before the anal. It ended with a pop shot to the chest and her giving it some post orgasm kissing.

Scene Two: Kelly, another blonde porn clone, alternated between Alberto and Anthony, in yet another solo turned music video turned scene. It also had oral, vaginal and anal sex (with some heated ATM too) but was slower in nature than the first scene. The sex, for the most part, was mechanical with limited, if any, chemistry but she gave a decent performance otherwise and eventually did a DP with both men before the ending double facial action.

Scene Three: Brittney, having given yet another solo sequence in the form of a music video, ended up in a lesbian tryst with Malibu and a glass dildo (a Phallix I believe) when Chris brought the two together. It was limited mostly to dildo play and some licking but the two had some untapped potential I was hoping would've been more fully realized.

Scene Four: Tory, the sole brunette of the movie with a lean body and nice ass, was up next in a scene that evolved, like the others, from a music video. Her partner was Chris and after some masturbation action, the two went at one another with some oral, spanking and straight up screwing. The sex included some anal but the grunts and groans she gave made me think she was taking on more than she could chew. Her dirty talk was pretty good though, even if the sex didn't work for me. It ended with a facial and a mouthful of goo.

Scene Five: Brittney, in the last music video turned scene of the entire movie, took on Chris as the story of her life came full circle. It went from oral to vaginal and facial wasn't bad although the initial metaphor of her committing suicide was disturbing and darker than I prefer to see in a porno. Like the other scenes, only those of you who enjoy highly edited, highly stylized sex scenes will find enough to enjoy and I was on the fence myself (liking the cast and attempts at an artistic telling of the life of a porn star (who came across as Jenna Jameson).

Summary: Pornstar was an interesting, if flawed, movie that tried to tell a story but fell short due to the stylish leanings of the director. Perhaps he's bored with more traditional porn (I wouldn't blame him) or perhaps he's searching for that elusive crossover market he's attempted to target in the past, but the stroke value of the movie wasn't very high and the replay value, for all the "hip" urban music, was low. I'm going to rate this one as a Rent It although I recognize that this is the type of show a critic is "supposed" to love and give great recommendations for. Unfortunately, this critic is also a fan and if I can't get off to it, there's no point in misleading those of you who read my reviews (unlike other websites, we're not company shills). It's worth a look, if only to see what Mr. Ninn is evolving towards but don't expect a whole lot or you'll be disappointed.
