Extra's: The best extra for many of you will be the bonus scene from The Assignment that had Randy Spears spearing Julia Ann on a rooftop. It lasted under nine minutes but I liked the scene and it kind of grows on me every time I watch it. Personally, I enjoyed the nearly 39 minute Behind the Scenes sex reel full of deleted sex footage the most though. There was a lot to like and even with the crew in the way at times, more sex is always a good thing, especially with a cast this hot. Another excellent extra was the over 24 minute long All Access: The Making of Writer's Block that provided some sex footage as well as director Jonathan Morgan and others discussing the movie as well as giving the cast a chance to shine. Other extras included the short box cover shoot, various photogalleries and star biographies, the usual promotional material and DVD Rom stuff found on all Wicked Pictures releases, a Wicked Pictures DVD catalog, a true double sided DVD cover, and an Easter Egg or two (so I'm told).

Condoms: Yes

Audio/Video Quality: Writer's Block was presented in the usual 1.33:1 ratio full frame color as originally shot by famed director Jonathan Morgan. One of the things I've long appreciated about Morgan's movies has been the attention to detail and the technical aspects of his releases. This movie showed a lot of care even though it was obviously not one of his bigger budget works. The colors were accurate, the lighting very well done, and the amount of grain barely noticeable. The composition of the shots seemed to showcase the gals very nicely and there were no compression artifacts that I saw in two viewings. To sum up the visuals; they were high end for a contemporary couples feature. The audio was presented in 5.1 Dolby Digital English with a little separation between the channels but nothing my front three speakers couldn't handle easily. The dynamic range was above average but less than Wicked Pictures is capable of given their high end releases of recent years.

Body of Review: Julia Ann is not a teenage bimbo. There, I said it and while this would come as no surprise to her many fans, it helps get rid of the reader that is simply looking for the next flavor of the month type who wouldn't recognize her classy demeanor or winning appeal regardless of what I wrote. To put it simply; she's the type of gal that shows that experience is not a bad thing and that classic beauty is more enticing than an overly made up tart. Perhaps some day she'll get back with her former partner Janine (rumored to be signing for Digital Playground any day now) to make some heated comeback scenes but I have to admit that she could do solo scenes and work for me. Her appeal is just that powerful to those of us discerning viewers that enjoy seeing a gal as hot as this last as long as she has in the current mixed up world of porn. Her latest release is Writer's Block, a movie about two writer's (Julia Ann and Steven St. Croix) that are faced wit a deadline and a growing lust for one another. Unlike many of director Jonathan Morgan's recent movies, this was made on a small budget, and that gave it a more down to Earth and personal appeal. I think couples will enjoy it as much as fans of the hot lead so read the following breakdown of the scenes if this seems good to you:

Scene One: Kelly Kline, an attractive gal with a lean body and pleasant features, played a dominant role as she ordered Alex Sanders, her pool and yard worker, to suck on her breast. The afternoon (or was it morning?) sun enhanced her look a lot and as he went down on her, she seemed to truly appreciate his efforts. Her blowjob was decent and I especially enjoyed the no hands part of it but she really let loose when riding him in reverse cowgirl on the lawn chair. She did several positions and eventually gave some PTM action to choke out a load. I've seen her in numerous scenes and this was one of the best on several levels with a lot of energy and chemistry to spare.

Scene Two: Julia Ann, the attractive blonde on the front DVD cover, and somewhat younger Jessica Drake, were up next in a lesbian scene on a couch while Steven watched them. They licked and rubbed one another in a manner that seemed far more likely to invoke a sultry response than most lesbian scenes (most such scenes seem way too faked but this was surprisingly good). Most of the time, they were going down on one another and no ultra large dildos came out of nowhere to be jammed in each hole so fans of that kind of thing can look elsewhere but I thought they worked well together with a decent amount of passion and energy.

Scene Three: Jessica Drake, wearing a hot little dress that worked for me far too well, gave Eric Masterson (playing a pizza delivery guy) a screwing to get back at her cheating boyfriend. The dialogue was corny but amusing at the same time and the two were okay together as she gave him head (in the playful manner she used to use on Evan Stone) before boning. The focus was lost a couple of times here but she proved to be a solid ride and I still can't turn away from watching her after all these years. It ended when he jerked a load onto her face (and mouth) but she had done some PTM during the scene if that's what you're into.

Scene Four: Devon Michaels, a sultry vixen with nice curves and large implants, was up next in a flashback sequence with Steven St. Croix outdoors at night by a car. After some witty banter full of double entendres, the two went at one another as though they really cared about each other. The oral (by each of them) was pretty good and her throaty moans managed to perk my interest up but her own oral wasn't long enough or strong enough to satisfy me. The boning action was energetic though and while she's done better elsewhere, I still liked the scene enough to watch it twice (and saw enough to like for more repeated viewings). It ended with a minor facial and her sucking him off.

Scene Five: Julia Ann and Steven St. Croix were next up in a scene that gave each of these two a chance to shine in the kitchen at night as they went down on one another. Normally, that would kind of suck (in a bad way) since I like full scenes but each gave great head (she was the better of the two) and it worked well in the building tension of the story.

Scene Six: Julia Ann, this time dressed up very nicely in a form fitting black dress, and Steven St. Croix, dressed up much like I do when writing reviews (kind of grubby), were up last in a scene on a couch at night. The oral was once again put on center stage but the foreplay was excellent too as the couple seemed to really hit it off like few porn couplings do these days. They did screw vaginally for a while but that was almost anti-climatic and the much larger splooge shot seemed to drain him dry. Yum!

Bonus Scene: The Assignment: Julia, finally finding her perfect guy, had sex with Randy on a rooftop. It was slower and more erotic than the other scenes (which tended to be more energetic) but it was still very well made and probably more appropriate for watching with your significant other.

Summary: Writer's Block was the type of movie I'd suggest for anyone not into the circus act sex crud currently overwhelming the porn market these days but also for couples that don't mind a little story to go with some warm sex scenes I'd say were very couples friendly. Julia Ann was very attractive, Steven St. Croix played a guy most men could identify with, and the amount of heated scenes seemed a very nice contrast to companies that equate a "couples" movie with a short running time. Thanks in no small part to some decent extras adding plenty of value, I gave this one a rating of Recommended and I look forward to seeing how well director Jonathan Morgan fares with future project on so intimate a scale as this one.
