Audio/Video Quality: Andrew Blake's Exhibitionists is indicative of his most recent work in the way it looked so fans will be pleased. Here's what I said years ago: "The picture looked very clear and sharp whether
a sequence was in Color or in Black & White. The feature was shot in true
widescreen in a 16:9 aspect ratio. The soundtrack was by Raoul Valve and was in
digital 5.1 surround sound. There was no vocal track though and that lowered
the rating substantially. Not even moans and groans to appreciate."

Review: I have long appreciated Andrew Blake's films for their erotic content and visual appeal that usually surpass that of his peers by a wide margin but I also recognize his limitations when I'm in the mood to watch gals actually have sex with men. That said, here's what I wrote about Andrew Blake's Exhibitionists years ago, with an updated bit at the end: "For those of you who aren't familiar with Andrew Blake, he is
a stylish director who's works could be displayed in fashion magazines
anywhere in the world. He takes some of the most attractive women in the
world, adds in some great makeup and hairstyles, fetish attire
clothing-often vinyl or leather, and has the women prance around for his
camera. There's no denying the charm of the style but it's limitations are
readily apparent after watching any of his movies for a couple of
minutes.

Exhibitionists, for example, starts and ends with performances by Anita
Blond. She's great to look at but like the others here, she never has actual
sex. If seeing a few women masturbate, kiss one another once in awhile, or
watching a couple seconds of dildo play (and I truly mean a couple of
seconds) every now and then is what you are looking for-this will be nirvana
for you. If you want to see intercourse, BJ's, or anything other than women
posing for the camera (the women often look right at the camera) this will
suck goat turds for you. The sheer sameness of most scenes prevents me from
wanting to describe them for you in detail.

Summary: Andrew Blake's Exhibitionists is actually worth a rating of Recommended if you like his other works but here's what I said in a harsher moment: "Okay, it's safe to say that you will either love a Blake
movie or hate it. There's really little middle ground. Personally, I love
his visual screenplays, the women he uses, the style and technical
proficiency, but find it all a bit lacking when taken in anything but small
doses. When a movie lacks any soul, heart, or whatever other term you want
to use, it's value is limited to a small group of people. I read an
interview with Blake earlier this year and it became stunningly apparent
that he won over the heart/mind of his interviewer who sang his many praises
in later reviews."

"Further, even the lesbian action is limited to a few kisses, a few labia
licks, and some emotionally empty masturbation scenes that never once
convinced me a woman was getting off. I think of Blake's fixation on beauty
without the actual sex similar to the situation that arises when a hungry
person approaches a table of food. If the person is a child, they tend to
gravitate towards the deserts and sweets first while a mature person of
depth goes for the prime rib initially and finishes up with a bit of desert.
I wish he would influence other porn directors to include more style and
less mechanical sex while perhaps he could learn something from them in
learning to add some actual sex to his prolonged tease scenes (although, in
this release, the average scene was only about 4 minutes long-not enough
time to jerk off even if you wanted to)."

"If you want a
sexless movie of beautiful but neutered women, you may find this right up
you alley. If you want sex, you'll want to avoid this one just like any
movie made by a Christian Ministry group. My overall rating is based on what
I feel the average porn viewer would think of this one as is my value. I got
it on sale, and as a fan of Blake's works, so my personal opinion would rank
it with more value and higher."

Note to Studio A: "Trust me, you can add in some sex and not lose your
stylish manner. While seeing the babes is cool for awhile, it is ultimately
unsatisfying after 15 minutes at a stretch. Justine, introduced here, was
another cutie though. Thanks!"

This Don Houston "retro-review" was written long ago before the so-called Professor of Porn had much experience writing reviews. Since that time, he has found Studio A to have a lot of good releases and seen more porn than almost anyone reviewing on the internet. Keep in mind that his comments accurately reflected his fresh viewpoint of the time he first saw the movie.
