Extra's: For me, the best extra was the 8.5 minute long interview with Krystal as she soaked in a bathtub. She discussed her career in porn and all the usual things, telling the viewer how she hated her earlier performances and always wanted to snag a contract. The next best extra for me was the 7.5 minute long Behind the Scenes feature that spent most of the time on Krystal but also gave costar Barrett Blade some time to say hi. Most of you will still prefer the bonus scene from 2001's Naughty College School Girls #19 since it starred Krystal and Dillion Day in a scenario that had her teaching him about English literature using the assets she was born with (as well as those sold to her by her plastic surgeon). There was also a bonus "69" position although it was too much of a close up to work well for me (in keeping with the POV angle of course). Lastly, there were some trailers, a photogallery and a paper chart telling you how to work the DVD (which is sort of like telling someone how to turn on a light switch).

Audio/Video Quality: My Plaything: Krystal Steal was presented in 1.78:1 ratio widescreen color but it lacked the clarity of many of the previous titles in the series. With grain, some video noise, and lower than average lighting, I thought the production looked second rate; certainly not what I expected going into it with so many fine volumes before. Perhaps the previous style of lighting was considered too harsh for Ms. Steal or maybe the uncredited director forgot that the best virtual sex releases have always been the ones that were crystal clear (pun intended) but either way, the result was problematic. The audio was a bit better defined though and I appreciated how the channels were separated. On the down side, the droning music on the strip feature was horrible and the vocals were somewhat hollow to me, a decided drop in what I had hoped for considering the past.

Body of Review: Fans of gals like Krystal Steal have long been able to find a variety of titles with their favorite performer. From her work as a contract star at Club Jenna to her earlier work for the gonzo Evil Angel, Krystal has allured a lot of fans into her corner by virtue of her sweet looking ass and talented oral skills as much as her attractive looking face. Since taking on her newest contract with Jenna though, there really haven't been a lot of releases starring the young vixen. Well, the dry spell is over with the release of Digital Sin's My Plaything: Krystal Steal. Fans of the series will note that of the two major virtual sex lines worth looking at these days (for the most part); Digital Playground's Virtual Sex and Digital Sin's My Plaything series. The whole concept really took off when Jenna Jameson came out in My Plaything Jenna Jameson (or the Virtual Sex equivalent) and the genre has never been as advanced as the two disc set for My Plaything Jenna Jameson 2 but fans of the various performers that have graced either series will be able to tell you that seeing your favorite porn performer act in various sex positions, using POV (point of view) camera angles that allow you to fantasize you're the meat puppet boning them, is kind of a trip. In a way, these series seemed to start off the POV series that are becoming ever more popular so we can thank the folks at both companies for pushing the envelope of what sells.

Now, if you're unfamiliar with the concept, here's how it works: the DVD takes a number of short clips made exclusively for the series and allows you to control the action in the order you want. The clips are loops so if you don't pick another clip, you keep seeing the same one over again. In that sense, it's like a computer game with you at the helm of your favorite performer.
If you've ever played with one of these DVDs, you'll know that the action is broken up into several categories that you control. You can use Strip, where Krystal will play with, her tits, ass and pussy to coax your interest as a start. It took place in a shower stall with her wearing a flimsy white outfit and looked good but should've lasted longer and had less of a droning soundtrack. Depending on what mood you put her in, she'll act accordingly before you're ready to move onto the Masturbation action. There, you'll get to see her use her fingers, a vibrator or a dildo on her pussy to simulate a short session of self-love. To me, she seemed most at ease during this section but that observation was very personal and your mileage may vary.

Next up was the inevitable Foreplay option. Krystal offers herself up to being pleasured by your tongue, fingers, a dildo or by giving Barrett a blowjob. The moaning here seemed really faked but if you're a fan, you'll be able to overlook it in favor of the fantasy of seeing Krystal at work. Many fans have told me that they dislike this option since it's so tame but I tend to disagree since it allows for the buildup of the climax, even as fake as the series is known for.

So, you're tired of the warming up action and want to see Krystal really get some dick, not just a dildo? The positions this time were missionary (pussy only), doggie, cowgirl (pussy only), and reverse cowgirl. I thought he looked smaller than usual here, which is something fans apparently can decide for themselves, but it was also kind of fake (beyond the usual faked moaning) with her looking into the camera as though it were the viewer. As with all the other action, you could control her attitude for nice or nasty, with each making a different impression, and you could make her orgasm on command but in a change of pace, there was only a single computer generated pop shot by Barrett and her ability to convince me was as limited as any of the other gals in the series.

So, with a rail type series of selections to pick from and a fairly weak bout of sex offered up as the main course, who would want to own this one? Essentially, fans of Krystal Steal will be the only ones wanting to pick this one up. I've long thought that Krystal was a poor substitute for Jenna Jameson in terms of how she seems to approach sex like a job (during her scenes at least) and her limited ability to convince me she's truly having fun. She admittedly has a lot of potential given her body type (I still hated her implants though) and facial attractiveness but most of the work was done by Barrett here (and Dillion in the bonus scene from years ago). When I watch a porno, I want to see the gals driven to milk out a load as though their lives depend on it or as if they're getting off for more than money. That's the number one reason I've never been into Krystal's body of work. Thankfully, she has a great teacher in the form of her current employer so I'll wait and see what Jenna can do to spice her up. As far as this DVD goes though, I'm rating it as a Rent It and even then only for fans of Ms. Steal.

Summary: My Plaything: Krystal Steal was kind of a let down after all the rumors I heard about Krystal really pulling out all stops to make this her best work ever. If you want to see a couple of very solid releases in this genre, try Digital Playground's Virtual Sex with Jesse Jane and Digital Sin's My Plaything Jenna Jameson 2 first since they deliver the goods far better than this one did. From the technical matters to the performer herself, My Plaything: Krystal Steal, won't be milking any loads at my house though I respect that some of you will like her look enough to compensate for her lack of skill. In that sense, I suggest you buy this one since she has been making almost no movies since Krystal Method and Steal Runway but keep in mind my warnings.
