Extra's: Many of you will like the five packaged bonus scenes as the best extra, three of which included Tawny Roberts as the lead, although I favor extras made for the movie itself. In that sense, the 9.5 minute long Behind the Scenes feature was the best since it had a lot of laughs, extra sex and nudity, with some bloopers too (the commercial was great!). There were trailers to movies like The New Devil in Miss Jones, photogalleries, a positions room, a short biography for Tawny Roberts, a double sided DVD cover, and some spam as well.

Audio/Video Quality: Groupie was presented in the same 1.33:1 ratio full frame color it was shot in by director B. Skow for Vivid Entertainment. It looked better than average for a Vivid release with decent lighting that limited the amount of grain and video noise most of the time but it was far from flawless. The pattern noise in Lanny's scene was bothersome and there were some compression artifacts in the first scene too. The composition of the shots was varied and typically offered up some pleasing looks at the ladies in action; something the director has shown a knack for previously. I hope Vivid gives him more time to polish up future efforts but this wasn't bad at all. The audio was presented in a 2.0 Dolby Digital English and seemed slightly better than average for Vivid but there wasn't any separation between the channels, something easily achieved on the music portions at least if anyone thought to provide it. The dynamic range was about average though a few scenes would've benefited by having a lower music track (or an alternative audio track with lower music like VCA has used in the recent past).

Body of Review: B. Skow is the new kid on the Vivid director block and to date, he's made a good show of his talent but like all things relating to porn, you're only as good as your latest movie. Today's review of his latest release, Groupie, a story about a rock band in the form of a documentary, Jethro Balls: Rock Story: The Story Behind the Rock, was nearly as fun as his previous efforts. Following a reporter's bet with the fictional band to get the best groupie story from them; the movie showcased the scenes as if the band members were trying to win the fame and glory of having the best story. Having been acquainted with a band or two in my day, the groupie stories fell a bit flat (I think more effort on the story could've been livened up the show as the accounts were generic to the point of making me wonder who really wrote the lame script) but it was a cute quickie porno that showed the director falling into the usual rhythm of the low budget Vivid feature fairly well. That said, here's a quick look at the scenes, noting that condoms were used:

Scene One: Shameless Shamus Onstage: Alexis Malone, a lean blonde with an all natural body, was up first on stage with Jerry as the couple gave each other some oral loving on stage. She seemed to be going through the motions too much for my tastes but it was a competent bit of oral and the screwing wasn't half bad. It looked nearly as good as the director's previous works (a sight better than Vivid's standard grain too) and she actively rode his shaft as though she were having fun (perhaps she wasn't into oral that day). The audio was provided by the back up band so I couldn't hear the moans and groans this time but it was an alright scene, even if it had little replay value for me. It ended when he popped a load onto her face.

Scene Two: Chris Peterpaul on the Couch: Tawny Roberts, the lean little blondie on the front DVD cover, was up next with the mighty Evan Stone on a red couch. She had a different outfit on than she wore on the cover, this time sporting a black top, tiny blue jean skirt and fishnet stockings (typically called "slutware"). The point of this scene was to establish Evan (as the lead singer of the group) as the kind of down and dirty type to win the bet. To do so, he went right to tapping her fine little pussy (albeit with a condom) before she whipped off the condom for some very warm head. She's grown more talented orally since I last saw her and this aspect of the scene was fun to watch but some of you will inevitably prefer the anal that came afterwards. The music was a partner to the vocals this time and it ended with a wad to her face as Evan sent her over to Ben (for the next scene) as he watched the two go at it.

Scene Three: Ben English Gets Seconds: Tawny Roberts, still sweaty and glazed from her work with Evan, walked over to do Ben English by the bar. This was significantly different than the usual Vivid fare where she'd at least be allowed to clean up and I nearly classified it as part of the last scene since there was no break. Her starting oral on him was as good as the tonsil tickling she took from Evan and this set the stage (so to speak) for Ben to give her a bone of his own. It was vaginal and short in length but added to her sexual resume nicely enough.

Scene Four: Tony Los Angeles in the Head: Lanny Barby, the latest (and loveliest) addition to the Vivid contract stable, was up next in a bathroom scene with Kurt Lockwood. She wore a purple satin top that fit her ample bosoms handily, some silk fishnet stockings, and a tiny PVC skirt that didn't last long. The pacing of the scene was a different than the others, perhaps to show the frantic nature of the type of sex they had. Visually, the camera took a voyeuristic view from low angles much of the time that worked well enough as long as her fishnets weren't on the screen (the pattern noise of the stockings was bad). She sucked him off after he warmed her cookie up a bit and they boned hot & heavy in her pussy before he rubbed out a load onto her face. I thought it was also a very well done scene with good replay value.

Scene Five: Izzy Rosenthorn on the Roof: Penny Flame, the subject of this week's spotlight performer in the Blue Room and a hot little number worth a look on her worst day, was up last with Trent Tesoro on the roof of the building. She wasted little time engulfing his shaft deep in her mouth and the manner in which she seemed to have chemistry with him was great. It was almost as if she were controlling his mind the way she attacked him sexually. The music was too loud for my tastes but that's a personal preference that perhaps Vivid can work on in the future (offering up a couple of audio tracks should be easy for them). He snacked on her crack a moment and then she rode him long and hard on a lawn chair. I liked how she used her titty fucking abilities and finished him off with some oral & hand job action. Once again, she came through.

Summary: Groupie continued my interest in director B. Skow's works although it seemed a bit too quickly made compared to some of his other work. There might be other explanations but the rough edges were more evident and the amount of sex appeared to be on the low side (the movie lasted about 90 minutes; way too short for this consumer when you look at how much fuck for the buck the competition is putting out there) though I enjoyed all but the first scene more than usual. The story itself was funny, inventive, and could've been a lot better had it been fleshed out a little too although I'm willing to suggest this movie as Recommended based on the strength of the cast, the originality of the concept, and the chances taken with the material. The sex was good, if short, and I think a lot of you will enjoy seeing Lanny, Penny, and Tawny working those cocks for your viewing pleasure so give it a look.
