Extra's: Sadly, the only extras here were some trailers, a slide show and some spam. Especially with less than 90 minutes of sex footage in the movie, extras are an important way to "make up" for the lack of content on a DVD. Hopefully, the next volume will be better.

Audio/Video Quality: Barely Legal 53 was presented in the usual 1.33:1 ratio full frame color as usual by new director Erica McLean for Hustler Video. The lighting was generally very solid and that limited the grain and video noise but the composition of the shots wasn't as good as it should've been. I'm sure some of the same cameramen have been used previously but something changed and they simply didn't handle the task at hand very well. There were no compression artifacts but there was some light shimmer and other minor problems for those keeping track. The audio was presented in a 2.0 Dolby Digital stereo English but the source material must've been in monaural since I heard no separation between the channels. The music was droning and often too loud with the vocals having to (unsuccessfully) compete against it and that weakened the fun for me too. The dynamic range of the audio in general was limited too.

Body of Review: Clive McLean was one of those men who knew more about porn than many, if not most, of his peers. Bringing a sense of style and caring to his work, he often provided the world with something slightly different in terms of showcasing youthful gals having sex. To be fair to the gentleman (who has passed away in recent years), I always wondered whether he fit in with the Hustler image since I was "old school" with the corporation having read the highly controversial magazine back in the 1970's when the honorable Larry Flynt pushed the limits of good taste far beyond what many would accept. Hero worship aside, recent years have proven Hustler to be well within the norm for light porn especially in the series that Clive directed although I'll always wonder where Mr. Flynt eased up. Today's review of Barely Legal 53, is the first attempt of Clive's widow, Erica, to take the helm of the series. Having liked the last volume, Volume 52 which was directed by Jane Waters and offered up almost two full hours of movie, I was somewhat disappointed at this volume since it was so short. Still, I gave it a shot and here's a quick breakdown of the scenes by cast and action, noting that there were no condoms used:

Scene One: Birthday Bang: Sierra Sinn, the lean little gal on the lower left hand corner of the front DVD cover, was up first in a scene where she was alone on her 18th birthday and got a dildo to play with as a present. Niko, playing a studly delivery man, helped her celebrate as she seduced him on the kitchen counter. As the droning music played, he licked frosting off her body to warm her up. He then used the orange dildo to get her extra excited which led to her slobbing his knob. She did a good job of it and paid close attention to his needs as she went about her task, keeping eye contact and using her hand to increase the friction. They then screwed vaginally with him doing almost all the work before she used the dildo on her tight ass. It ended with her blowing him but the pop shot wasn't shown, leaving me to wonder what happened (he wasn't particularly hard when he supposedly came in her mouth), and her friends came in with an awkward pause that could've been better.

Scene Two: Lick My Cone: Hailey Young, the skinny hotty on the lower right hand corner of the front DVD cover, played an ice cream sales associate in her uncle's truck when she came across a customer we all know as Jack Venice. This being porn, they hit it off and she took him into the truck to have some kicks. Her sexual skills appeared to still be developing at this point and while I wouldn't have turned her away from a freebie with her, she wasn't getting me worked up by watching her. She was fresh looking though and he went down on her well enough to ready her for some boning. She was more energetic than Sierra but it was a pretty basic bang before he rubbed out a load onto her face and tiny chest.

Scene Three: Neighborly Nookie: Kelsey Michaels, the brunette featured on the middle of the front DVD cover, was up next as she was left stranded on the side of the road. She was rescued by Otto Bauer, as he looked down from his apartment to see her in trouble. She went up to his place and they started going at it after some minimal dialogue about her point of origin and love of sex. Her oral wasn't bad although it was certainly slower than usual and her smiling face indicated a positive attitude as she masturbated for him with some tease. They screwed in more positions than the others had done with her even doing some PTM before he popped a small load onto her face. It wasn't a bad scene but it wasn't really all that great either.

Scene Four: Erect TV: Lain Oi, the gal on the upper left hand corner who obviously got her last name when someone got a good look at her (Oi!), had problems with her new television set and repairman Tyler Knight, a studly black dude, came to the rescue to help her see her favorite show. Apparently, her second favorite show was white chicks with black dicks since she offered him payment with her body (although I'm sure it was still under warranty given the narration). He went down on her and she tasted his fingers as he continued to make good use of the bed. She was easily the most energetic orally and vaginally as she took care of his sexual needs before the pop shot. In general, her body was the best too so if you can focus on parts south of the neckline, you'll like her a lot.

Scene Five: Pantie Passion: Ola McKenzie, the tiny cutie located on the upper right hand corner of the front DVD cover, was up last as she narrated a bit about planting panties in order to entice James Deen into her life. He took the bait and brought her back her underwear for which she rewarded him with some crappy lemonade. He then traded that for a kiss which led to a lot more, including oral and vaginal sex. She certainly had the cute factor going for her but her participation in the scene was only moderate (better than some but way weaker than Lain's). The pop shot went to her face and mouth but it was tiny (he must've been working a lot that week) and there was little chemistry between them.

Summary: Barely Legal 53 had a cast of youthful women doing what they were supposed to but the entire project seemed rushed and limited in various ways. On top of that, the running time was far too low and that took away from the fuck for the buck quotient I try to promote for companies all over the place. Taken as a whole, I'll be generous and rate this as a Rent It but Erica needs to add more extras, find more attractive gals that really like to fuck on camera, and provide a lot closer to two hours worth of movie (if not more: many movies are utilizing the dual layer or dual disc approaches to elevate the amount of porn you get; surely an industry leader like Hustler can compete against the hordes of wannabe's out there). In any case, it was a fair first effort but in great need of polishing up so check it out if you get a chance.
