Extra's: The best extra was a 31 minute long Behind the Scenes feature where all the ladies of the cast got to spend some time in front of the camera before, during and/or after the action. It added a lot of value to the show and I found it interesting to watch. There was also a selection of trailers, a photogallery, and some spam for Hustler.

Audio/Video Quality: Hustler's Amateur Beaver Hunt was presented in the original 1.33:1 ratio full frame color it was shot in by director Will Ryder for release by Hustler Video. The lighting was pretty good and that limited most of the problems with the visual elements but the composition of the shots and the editing were not the best I've seen from a Hustler release. With minimal grain and video noise, the picture could've been better but there were times when the camera work looked almost hostile to the ladies in terms of presenting them at their best. There were few compression artifacts though so at least the DVD mastering wasn't bad. The 2.0 Dolby Digital stereo audio track was as basic as I'd expect with droning music and a sense of hollowness to the vocals. I could hear what the cast were saying but there was little to really suggest as being above average or that far off the mark.

Body of Review: Will Ryder is best known as the marketing genius that has propelled performer to new heights by changing her name from Jessica Sweet to "Britney Rears" and doing everything in his power to remake her into something new. His latest directorial effort is a smaller scale project called Hustler's Amateur Beaver Hunt, where the idea is to make it look like the gals all submitted pictures to Hustler's famed amateur polaroid contest in hopes of getting in the magazine. They are then interviewed and given a spotlight in a movie scene, all written up as though it were real and not the figment of Jeff's imagination. In large part, the concept isn't a bad one and as his technical skill grows, I hope to see him truly bring out the best in his performers even if this wasn't the best effort at such an event as I had hoped. Here's a breakdown of the scenes by cast and action, noting that it was all oral and vaginal sex here and no condoms were used:

Scene One: Michelle Maylene, an 18 year old gal with long brown hair and a kicking body, was up first in a scene with Brett Rockman. She initially gave an interview while the visuals bounced between that and her teasing the camera. Sexually, she came off like a stripper trying to make the big leagues, doing oral and vaginal sex with a moderate amount of energy but nothing you wouldn't find anywhere else. Director Will was a bit overbearing as he acted surprised (it seemed like he wrote the material the gals regurgitated so I'm not sure why he thought this would work very well) by their comments. This scene was based on a photo shoot with Pete being the photographer and she wasn't bad sexually; just not as enthusiastic as I prefer to see. If she ever learns to turn on the juice, she has the potential to be a popular gal given her cute face and body. The scene ended with him jerking off a load to her face but it was generic in terms of chemistry and heat.

Scene Two: Dakota Cameron, a busty sun bunny with an average look, claimed she wanted to be the "next Jesse Jane" after her idol contract gal at Digital Playground before she joined both Nicole Brazzle and Chris Charming in a scene on a bed. Nicole's accent was as prominent as ever and she was the star of the scene in terms of quality oral and screwing. Both gals took turns though and neither let the other spend any time alone as they all pawed and played well together. Nicole made the scene though so all the oral and vaginal sex by Dakota wasn't going to elevate the score any.

Scene Three: Loretta Scars, a girl next door redhead in a blue & white polka dot dress, gave her interview on the stairs before Nicole Brazzle and Sascha joined in. Sascha was first, offering up his cock for sucking on the stairs but Nicole soon showed her how to "be a real porn star" and led them to the comfortable couch for some lessons. I would make a comment about Nicole needing a few lessons too but that'd be mean and anyone who's seen her in action knows that she could pick up a trick or two before taking over as teacher. Nicole's blue outfit and Loretta's purple lingerie really weren't the best choices for their body (if enhancing their looks was the top priority) but the good news is that both gave pretty good head, if lackluster vaginal screwing. The scene ended with a pop shot to Loretta's face and mouth as Nicole watched.

Scene Four: Azalea Lee, the cutey on the front DVD cover, was up next as she did a guy named "Ross" (her real life boyfriend) on the couch. He was about average sized in terms of his penis and she seemed to like working with him even if his hairstyle looked like something out of a Scooby Doo episode. The sex was slower than average and she did much of the work. Her oral was okay and the riding parts fair but aside from a cute face and body (and a nice tan line), she had little to recommend outside of her newness to porn. Still, she showed some potential and hopefully she'll ditch him to work with more capable males in porn soon. The scene ended with a pop shot to her face; striking her eye and nostril more than anything (nice shot numb nuts!)

Scene Five: D'Monica, a brunette with a big overbite (though not as horrible a set of teeth as Loretta had) and a mane of black hair, was up last as Jeff used a dildo on her while she rested on the couch. The tease session here wasn't all that great but she got to work with James Deen instead of Ross so she probably was feeling extremely lucky. Nicole Brazzle joined in for some blowjob assistance but neither of them was particularly talented by the looks of it (and I know Nicole can suck a mean dick). The straight vaginal screwing was about average with D'Monica trying to instill some energy but falling short, regardless of the position. Like most of the others, she did some PTM (pussy to mouth) but it didn't do anything for me. She may appeal to some of you more than me but it wasn't one of the better scenes of the movie. He did unleash a large load to her face at the end though so maybe it felt better than it looked on camera.

Summary: Hustler's Amateur Beaver Hunt was full of scenes where true amateurs would have shined by comparison given the wooden performances some of these gals gave. Further, the technical matters could've been a lot better but I enjoyed some of the ladies work so I'm going to be slightly generous and suggest this one as a Rent It. The addition of the BTS feature was appreciated as it added some of the most fuck for the buck out of any other aspect of the DVD though I think Will might've promoted this one better by giving the ladies a bit more room to do what gets them off rather than follow such a set formula. Look for a couple of these gals to move up the food chain if they can pick up a few skills along the way and maybe a second volume will use really amateur performers to spice things up.
