Extra's: For most people, the best extra will be the 7 minute long bonus scene where Cindy Crawford masturbated by the pool outdoors. It was probably as good a scene as you'll find from any of her back catalog work at JKP (even without a guy) but it wasn't the best action she's been in either. For my tastes, I liked the 11.5 minute long Behind the Scenes feature by Malachi Ecks although to be fair, he spent most of the time with Cindy and in the make up room with Katja Kassin (she had funny stories about guys refusing to take her anally). There was also a slide show, some trailers, and spam but most people will only care about the first two extras.

Audio/Video Quality: Shag was presented in the same 1.85:1 ratio anamorphic widescreen color it was shot in by director Wit Maverick for release by VCA Pictures. The back cover advertised that the show was shot in HD and I'll be the first to admit that the use of the format allowed for some very nice contrasts in the lighting that would've otherwise looked lame but it wasn't carried forth far enough to dramatically impact the entire visual experience. I saw little grain and the composition of the shots seemed designed to enhance the look of the women during their scenes. There were no compression artifacts observed so perhaps the "Ultra Bit Encoding" also advertised, played a role in making the show look the best it could. The audio was presented in a 2.0 Dolby Digital stereo using English as the vocal track. The audio wasn't as solid as the visual experience but it wasn't bad either. There was no separation for the vocals and the dynamic range wasn't great but I thought the minimal music was pretty fitting for the themes present.

Body of Review: Wit Maverick had long been one of my favorite directors at VCA Pictures when they had bigger budgets to work with. His sense of style and eye for capturing visually interesting sex scenes propelled him right to the top of my list along with the legendary Jim Holliday and talented Veronica Hart. I was surprised to see he was still making porn recently when I picked up a copy of his latest movie, Shag, a title reminiscent of some of his smaller works (I never saw his Sopornos titles sadly enough). It didn't set out to be a larger than life feature but I still liked it on several levels. Here's a quick look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that condoms weren't used and most of the gals were looking very fetching:

Scene One: Annie Cruz, the little gal with reddish hair and a willing attitude, started out the sexual antics of the show by playing a call girl brought in to service Randy Spears on his couch at home. She stroked his cock and got him hard with some tease action before she blew him slowly (using her tongue to spice things up). Eventually, she sat on it and gave her pussy a thrill as she bounced up and down on his shaft. She masturbated her asshole but he never partook of it and dropped a load onto her face instead. It wasn't a bad way to open the movie since they had some energy but lacked chemistry together.

Scene Two: Katja Kassin, playing the head of the wealthy household, put her curves to good use by engaging in sex with the gardener, Trent Tesoro, in the bed. Her purple panties and top didn't last long as she felt him up and soon inhaled his meat pipe like none other were available in the universe. They were doing a 69 when Randy Spears walked in on them with Cindy in tow but only raunchy Randy joined in. Sexually, the trio got so far as a DP but the sex included some taste testing and other kink as well, showcasing the lovely Katja very nicely. I hope to see more of her in features in upcoming releases now that she's proved her worth once again with a speaking role. Otherwise, the passionate scene ended when the guys rubbed out loads to her face as Cindy sort of masturbated.

Scene Three: Cindy Crawford, the lead of the movie and well known performer, was up next with the lovely Hollie Stevens as the duo dominated Chris Charming. Cindy didn't have on the black wig she sported on the right hand side of the front DVD cover, but most fans like the bleached blonde just the way she is so her face sitting exploits on Chris' face as Hollie jerked him off were just fine. Hollie did most of the active riding in the scene, from Chris' cock in her pussy to Cindy's strap on dildo, but Cindy wasn't bad either. Chris jerked off to Cindy's face after several positions and was paid back by the suggestion of getting his dick burnt by her cigarette (it was faked but still weird).

Scene Four: Sandra Romain, looking mighty tasty as she sat back and asked to be fucked, handled both Tommy Gunn and Randy Spears as she was filmed by everyone's freaky friend (look at my non-sex credits) in the next scene. In all, the scene looked as visually appealing as the others did but this was made ever more interesting here since Sandra tends to make mostly gonzo movies these days instead of good looking features. Scene Five: Texas Presley, the gal on the front cover displayed in color on the left hand side of the cover, and brunette wigged Cindy Crawford, were up last in a little scene with Trent Tesoro at the club. They played a little game which led to him going down on Texas with the two of them screwing as Cindy masturbated. It wasn't a very good use of Cindy but Texas was in pretty solid form, proving to me that she could be a much bigger name if given the chance to showcase her skills. Texas showed some heat, some passion, and even some chemistry here so she fit right in with the better known talent on that score.

Summary: Shag might not win any awards for blockbuster breakthroughs but it had enough fuck for the buck, enough attractive performers, and enough solid extras to win it a Recommended from this jaded old porn hound. Director Wit Maverick showed he still had the stuff to bring out some solid performances from a host of gals of all types and while fans of Cindy Crawford might not be as happy with the release as they probably wanted to be (while the focus of the movie, her sex role wasn't all that large), it should be noted that in all her work for JKP, she really wasn't allowed to do all that much anyway. Still, Katja, Sandra and Texas all gave decent performances and the others weren't bad either so check it out.
