Extra's: For me, the best extra was the 8.5 minute long Behind the Scenes feature credited to Kylie Ireland. It gave some of the cast a chance to show they weren't just jumping into the scenes and there was some sex in it (though I would've liked to have seen Kylie or heard her voice to "prove" her participation). Others will prefer the five bonus scenes from movies like O Zone and Wife Swappers (three starred Monique Alexander), though they seemed edited from their original length for some reason. There was also a positions room, a short text biography for Monique Alexander, some spam, photogalleries, and trailers to shows like The New Devil In Miss Jones. On a positive note, Vivid has kindly removed the coding on the DVD that forced us to sit through the spam at the front of their movies. Yay Vivid!

Audio/Video Quality: True Porn Fiction was presented in the original 1.33:1 ratio full frame color it was shot in by director Eli Cross (under his alias Bryn Pryor) for release by Vivid Entertainment. The lighting was on the low side and that caused some issues with grain, video noise, and shadows, but the editing and compositional matters weakened the sex scenes as much as anything else on the visual front. The problem with trying to emulate others in the field is that the majority of time, those you copy aren't doing all that well either so it leads to a lack of creativity. At least when you stick with flat lighting and medium shots with a moderate amount of close ups, you can rely on the quality of the performances (and blame them when it doesn't come off correctly). It wasn't terrible here but it did hamper the fun more than a little bit. The 2.0 Dolby Digital stereo audio was another case of a monaural vocal track often covered by the droning porn music we're all so used to. Was it especially bad? No, it wasn't but the hollow vocals and other auditory matters weren't favorable to enhancing the scenes either.

Body of Review: Vivid Entertainment is without a doubt one of the dominant players in the porn industry at this time. Forget the haters that shower the company with nasty remarks when given an internet forum and forget those misogynists that can't get off unless the ladies are being ravaged just short of a rape scene; the bottom line is that the company has been in business for decades because they hire some of the most desirable ladies in porn and aggressively promote them to the point where even guys like Hugh Hefner would fawn at the PR machine so well oiled as to make the legitimate publications bend over backwards to cater to their needs. That said, the company may well make some very interesting porn but it also takes chances at times and finds the result a little mixed. Such was the case with True Porn Fiction, a series of vignette stories that showcased the lovely Monique Alexander. The technical matters aside, the director's handling of the contract starlet in the movie was the biggest issue since she's the reason people are buying the DVD. Her scenes weren't up to par and here's a quick breakdown of the scenes to describe what took place with whom in order to give you some insight as to the reasons for my rating below:

Scene One: The Game: Monique Alexander, the hotty on the front DVD cover, Julie Night, one of the more extreme gals in porn these days, Shayla LaVeaux, a legend I thought had retired a few years ago, the muscular Tommy Gunn, and the mighty Evan Stone were up first in a scene that evolved from a dinner party. Initially, Julie and Shayla paired off while Monique and Tommy went at it and Evan just sat bemusedly on the comfy chair to watch. As expected, as the scene progressed the performers switched around a bit with the primary forms of sex being oral, vaginal, and lesbian licking. My biggest compliant about the scene was how much masturbating Monique did as they others boned away like crazy; she's the star of the movie and while the other two gals have done things in the past that would put the young hotty to shame, I wanted to see the lead more than them in action. It ended with Julie taking a pop shot to her curvy ass from Evan (and Tommy must've popped off screen) but as hot and sweaty as they got, the scene lost points due to my observations on Monique's relative lack of participation.

Scene Two: Pool Party: Davia Ardell, a brunette with blonde highlights and a lean little figure, was up next as she played pool with Marcos Duato in a private game room. Despite the narrative about how poorly she played, the balls were flying in the holes like crazy and this led to the table being empty. Nature abhors a vacuum, so the couple laid out on the hard slate surface in order to protect it from the elements; selflessly using their increasingly naked bodies to do so. Marcos went wild licking and kissing her body all over as he striped off her clothing, sucking her feet and legs all the way down to her crotch. She responded with those little kitten moans you hear from gals into the sex. The music was obnoxiously invasive but it stopped about the time started porking her pussy (of course the music started back up with a tribal theme). The lighting was on the low side and that weakened the action for me but at least she did some PTM clean up on his shaft afterwards. It was a messy blowjob that led to a titty fuck with some measure of vigor. She's good at sucking dick, almost too good, but most of you will care more that she did anal afterwards and did it like she enjoyed it. After the active anal romp, she took the facial and the scene ended, marking the first scene I liked in the movie.

Scene Three: Visitor: Monique Alexander, looking exceptionally hot in a classy aqua dress, was up next in a scene with Barry Scott on a bed in her loft. He was nervous about the apparent escort situation and she put him at ease before blowing him with more skill than I expected. That she looked almost like former performer Serenity was a bonus for me here and the ladies might appreciate knowing he looking like a small scale version of mainstream action star Vin Diesel. After her intense oral on him, he returned the favor on her though she seemed to be faking the pleasure a bit too much for my tastes (no pun intended). Not everyone is good at giving a lady head so I can't fault him too much but she could have guided him better as to what worked rather than put on too much of a show. They then vaginally screwed with her on top, the only position she really shined in by the way, since she was far too passive in the other positions. Still, she has retained a sense of freshness that many of her peers in the business haven't, possibly due to the way she looks unable to easily handle even a modest sized pecker like Barry's. It ended as expected with him popping on her bush (with her rubbing it northward) but as much as this was a definite step up from her first scene in the movie, she wasn't there yet for me.

Scene Four: Cage Match: Melissa Lauren, Trina Michaels, Mary Jane, Savanna Snow, Anna Valentina, and Fraulein Fist (most of them newcomers to porn), were up next in what looked a little like Kylie Ireland's dungeon. Melissa was in charge with the other gals either tied up or in cages, as she walked about to torment them and survey her spoils. A few of the gals looked out of place (sorry, no credits made it tough enough to identify them in the scene, never mind which gal was which) due to their facial expressions but the fetish attire they all sported was appropriate and they used the right code words to seem moderately authentic. There was some light flogging, spanking, and forms of role playing that might not have been as deep as a niche fetish title but still came off as more involved than a mainstream porn showing by Vivid. Still, it was largely a conventional lesbian scene by the second half when the gals were all released from their respective restraints and allowed to mostly roam free with each other. Trina was the highlight of the second half but still seemed to hold back, even when using toys and tongue to get her partner off. In all then, my major issue with the scene is that it couldn't decide which way it wanted to go; as a bondage scene or a straightforward lesbian scene with a little bit of kink (and the limited use of some of the ladies, most of them actually, weakened it too).

Scene Five: Exercise Break: Monique Alexander, in jail for her misdeeds and wearing what looked like hospital scrubs, was up next in a scene with Randy Spears as her jailer. She was sullen as she walked over to the bars of the cell and undid his pants, getting her exercise by working over his tube steak like a seasoned professional. I thought that was all she'd do but he entered the cell to get more personal with her; sucking her toes as he boned her tight pussy for example, with only a couple of positions offered this time. He popped on her bush and she laid back to contemplate the Universe but my initial issue with her performances was the same; she seemed too passive when screwing (unlike during her oral). I know that fit the scenario but porn is about fantasy more than anything else and as hot looking as Monique is, I want to see her enjoy herself with some measure of abandon.

Summary: True Porn Fiction was only worth a rating of Rent It from me due to the technical limitations and the lack of energy shown by star Monique Alexander. The overall casting of the movie seemed well handled but aside from the other minor issues mentioned in the scene descriptions, Monique had the pressure on her to make, or break, the quality and rating of the movie. In this case, she let her partners do most of the work and passively stood by too often and that alone was enough to diminish the heat of the action (I didn't mind the condoms though; another area that Vivid has reevaluated in favor of performer choice in the future). I think once she gets into the groove with her newly extended contract, Monique will have the kind of potential that'll keep fans coming back rather than introduce new fans who soon leave for others (like Lanny Barby) and she's done better in the past but this kind of uneven performance is exactly why people read reviews (if a al is always good, why bother with a review?). It was worth a look but only a slavering fanboy will truly appreciate it more than that.
