The Movie:

Burning Angel's lovely ladies take a second trip to the big time with this sequel release from VCA. While technically Joanna's Angels 2 – Alt. Throttle, like its predecessor, would fall into the feature category, the content outside of the sex scenes is really nothing more than a series of loosely connected gags that kinda-sorta tell a very basic story around which to string the sex scenes. Once again, however, it works. If you dug the first movie, this is more of the same flavor – it's fairly light and playful but manages to deliver some seriously solid hardcore sex from a bevy of beautiful women.

For those who don't know who Joanna Angel is, think of her and her gang of girls as king of a hardcore version of the Suicide Girls. A lot of people are calling this goth porn or alternative porn or punk rock porn (the slogan at the top of the case says The Originator Of Punk Rock Porn Is Back!), though that's not really the case with this release or the other Burning Angel releases, as these girls are way too happy looking to be goth – they've just got a lot of tattoos and piercings, that's all. Regardless of what genre you want to lump them in, second film, once again produced by the one and only Larry Flynt, manages to clock in at one hundred and seventy five minutes in length – most of which is made up of quality fuck footage.

The movie starts off with Joanna and the gang interrogating Tommy Pistol – just as it looks like they're getting somewhere, The President Of The United States (played by Mr. Marcus who looks like he's having way too much fun in this movie) calls for Joanna. Rancid's Ruby Soho plays on the soundtrack, the credits roll, and we're off... The Angels learn that Charlotte Stokely has kidnapped the President's daughter (Dana DeArmond) and is holding her hostage in order to eliminate all facets of alternative life. That means no punk rock, no tattoos, no piercings, that type of thing. The Angels are not cool with that so they spring into action, which more or less means they fuck their way though the mission.

Chapter 1 – Joanna Angel, James Deen and Mr. Marcus: After getting briefed by the two men, Joanna (looking hot in some black fishnets) decides to serve her country by sucking James' dick and stroking off Mr. Marcus. She goes back and fourth, sucking one and stroking the other, then back again. This shot on video production looks pretty clean presented here in a reasonably stable non-anamorphic 1.85.1 widescreen presentation. There is some mild edge enhancement in a couple of spots and a noticeable bit of mpeg compression evident in some of the darker colors and the blacks but other than that, there's not a lot to complain about. Skin tones look nice and natural, the compositions are dead on, and aside from the fact that this digital video production looks like a digital video production and as such suffers from the minor defects usually associated with the format, everything is coming up roses as far as the look of the film is concerned.

Sound:

The Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround track is quite sufficient, even if the levels are unusually low (this is fixed easily enough by simply turning up the volume). The dialogue comes through cleanly and clearly as do all of the moans and groans. The soundtrack is mixed in properly at a respectable level so as not to overshadow the speaking parts when they do occur. Bass response is nice and lively and overall, for a porno movie, this is a better than average effort.

Extras:

First up is a group commentary with most of the participants in the movie. It's funny and goofy and it tends to go all over the place. There's a lot of joking around which makes it amusing even if sometimes it's disjoined. In between the jokes though we are able to get a pretty good feeling for how the movie was made and some of the oddball things that happened on set. This commentary isn't going to change your life or anything, but it is a fun distraction.

Up next is a Behind The Scenes segment called Friends (With Benefits) that starts off with Tommy goofing around on set. From there we see some of the girls getting ready for their scenes, and generally goofing around on set. There are some candid interviews in here, and we see some of the scene set-ups and some practice runs on some of the lines. This segment runs for six minutes and forty three seconds and it's a nice look at the performers off screen.

Next up are some outtakes, starting with Tommy practicing some of his fight scenes and kung fu moves. I'm not sure why this guy is so funny, but he is and watching him completely fuck up some of the stunts and jump onto moving cars is genuinely funny. From there we see some more goofing around on set with the girls and some motorbike footage before getting a chance to see Tommy jump off the roof of a house. This segment runs for five minutes and twenty three seconds and it's all stunt footage – no bonus sex footage here for you, you pervert. It's funny stuff though.

Rounding out the extra features are a slide show of roughly eighty hard core images of the girls in action from the film (set to Rancid's Time Bomb!), trailers for Art School Sluts, Fresh Flesh and Kill Girl Kill, as well as a web-link and a phone sex add. There's also a star index option which lets you skip to your favorite girl and from there it breaks the scene down into segments.

Final Thoughts:

If you dug the first film, this one is more of the same. It's high quality sex with silly lowbrow comedy and it's just plain fun. The performances range from above average to absolutely hot and the storyline, while hardly mind blowing, serves its purpose and provides a lot of laughs along the way. The disc looks and sounds pretty good and VCA has thrown in some nice extra features as well. Joanna's Angels 2 – Alt. Throttle comes highly recommended!
