Audio/Video Quality: A List was presented in non-anamorphic widescreen color with an approximate aspect ratio of 1.85:1 as originally shot by director Van Styles for Hustler Video. I've found a lot of Hustler releases to be pleasant and fun but rarely ball draining in nature so the minor issues I had with the picture didn't bother me much at all here (Van has a master plan to restore the Hustler Empire from what I hear so I wish him all the luck in the world to make it happen). The fleshtones were accurate and there was some very light grain but the lighting was decent (too bright at times though), the composition of the shots enhanced the look of the cast, and there were no compression artifacts to be found on this lengthy DVD release. A bit more work and I could see it beating out releases by top level gonzo companies so I continue to hope Van takes the time to push the envelop just a bit more in this area. The audio was presented in 2.0 Dolby Digital stereo English with limited separation between the channels and the kind of dynamic range you'd expect of a gonzo release (not great but not terrible either). I also wish the audio levels were better handled (and that the visuals were in anamorphic widescreen of course) but this was only a problem some of the time here.

Body of Review: Van Styles is a director in porn that is known mostly for his interracial efforts yet he has also shown a fair talent for other genres too. His work at Hustler is rapidly growing in popularity due to his skillful camera work and the direction he takes the ladies that work for him, with the latest release being A List; a term used both for the nature of the demand for the ladies as well as the fact that they all do anal. The back cover said it like this: "Watch five sexy fuck sluts get their holes pounded. Every scene includes hardcore anal and a scorching facial!" In general, I was looking forward to the show since it had a couple of my current favorite performers starring in it (Tiffany Rayne and Flower Tucci) and the others were also known to me from recent titles. Here's a look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used at all in them:

Scene One: Tiffany Rayne, one of the hottest and freshest anal princesses in porn these days, was wisely chosen to open the movie as the camera shot her from behind, almost silhouetting her lovely body on the glass door. Her satin white short shorts enhanced her ass and the fishnet top did little to cover her perfectly natural titties with the fluffy half jacket adding ambiance. The standing tease was fun, even if the vocals were far too low to properly hear, and it led to her using a red anal plug to stretch her ass for the coming pounding she'd take by Mark Ashley. Scene Five: Flower Tucci, the anal queen of the Americas on the front DVD cover, was wisely picked to be up last given her status as the ultimate choice for the show. Her demeanor was completely different than the words on her shirt ("super bitch") in how she actively and enthusiastically embraced working with "two big cocks" in the form of Mark Wood and Mark Ashley. Her tease was enough to get me hot and staining my shorts ever so slightly, leading to the best oral of the movie by far. She then took turns riding them vaginally, anally, and doing some DP work with some taste testing on the couch. The heat poured off of her and the guys were caught up in a maelstrom of decadence as she showed her superior combination of skill and desire. She did a little of her infamous waterwork show but even the anal creampie circus act sex couldn't weaken the scene for me. Tiffany may be fresher but Flower is still the queen.

Summary: A List benefited greatly by performances from Tiffany Rayne and Flower Tucci but the others were not giving their all and that weakened the movie for me. I thought a better selection of true "A List" ladies might have caused the movie to work better for me but the lack of extras did help (nor did the technical matters previously discussed). I think director Van Styles is on to a good formula but even a talent such as he is limited to the cast he is given so maybe a second volume will rate higher than a Rent It.
