Extras: To me, the best extra was the 9.5 minute long Behind the Scenes feature as it showed most of the ladies having fun both before and after their scenes. It wasn't as lengthy and comprehensive as some BTS features have been elsewhere but it showed hotty Melissa preparing everything and managed to provide some extra value, even as short as it was. Audio/Video Quality: Plucked Then Fucked was presented in the usual 1.33:1 ratio full frame color as shot by fledgling director Melissa Lauren for Combat Zone. I'm told that she has directed for some smaller unknown company but as it stands, this was a solid effort for someone so new to the production aspects of porn. The lighting was generally flat and solid in the scenes, limiting the grain and video noise substantially as a result. There were some issues with scene two that appear to have been related to lighting and/or the mastering of the DVD but it still looked pretty good for a newbie director. The composition of most scenes seemed to favor the look of the cast, with minor editing needed to polish it up to a better offering but I thought much of the show was captured with the energy and enthusiasm of the cast intact. The audio was presented in a 2.0 Dolby Digital English that had little separation and a standard dynamic range for gonzo porn but the only area I didn't truly like was the numerous times when Melissa would bark out orders for the cast to follow (I don't like it when Jules Jordan does it either).

Body of Review: As gonzo newcomer Combat Zone accelerates it's acquisition of talented directors; they have been taking some chances that occasionally pay off. Great directors are made over time, not picked off a tree so it comes as no surprise that their newest one, director Melissa Lauren, showed a tremendous amount of promise based on her first release for the company, Plucked Then Fucked. I remembered reading an article in AVN about the move that said: "Performer/director Melissa Lauren has joined the slate of directors who will be creating material for Dion Giarrusso's fledgling gonzo production company, Combat Zone. Lauren will direct one title a month for the company and she couldn't be happier, telling AVN.com, "I had heard people speak very highly of Dion so I contacted him, we met and he seems like a very nice guy to me. He wants good product and I want to build a name as a director. I think it's just a very good match." On her plans for her releases for Combat Zone, Lauren said, "Combat Zone is all about new girls so I am going to try to get the new girls into aggressive sex, not over the top S/M sex but very passionate, high energy sex." It would have been an excellent extra to see her in a scene or two with the cast but I'll look for that in the future.
