Extra's: The saving grace of an extra was a full copy of Sorority Sex Kittens 1 (click the link for a full review). It wasn't the best volume in the series but it was a full movie to enjoy and that makes it a great extra. The other decent extra was easily the 42 minute long Behind the Scenes feature by Monte Rolenze. It's not just that it had more sex and nudity or that there were some funny moments, but there were also some interviews and enough of a look at the shooting of the movie to give a feel for what took place on the set. In that sense, it was very well done and while that didn't make it as good an extra as some extra sex scenes with the cast, it was still a cut above the norm for me. There was also a slide show, some trailers to VCA and Hustler titles, and some spam to enjoy.

Audio/Video Quality: Sorority Sex Kittens: Kappa Kappa Sex was presented in 1.85:1 ratio anamorphic widescreen color as originally shot by director Rick Davis for VCA Pictures as part of the newly commissioned tribute to Jim Holliday series they have instituted. The lighting was decent, limiting the grain and video noise with little to complain about in this sense. The composition of the shots tended to flatter the ladies a little bit but was uneven, using tricks that Rick probably picked up at Cherry Box and has picked up over his lengthy career as a cameraman and director (among other related jobs he's worked at). If it were a true tribute to Jim, it might have used more of the "fluff bunny, rainbow marshmallow" footage like at the beginning during the water fight or natural sunlight during the scenes as Holliday tried to provide but there is a difference between a tribute and a mere copy of a style so I can't fuss too loudly. The audio was presented in the usual 2.0 Dolby Digital stereo English with little separation or dynamic range to speak off but a music track that at least seemed passingly like those that Jim used during in his movies (airy, surfer styled music).

Body of Review: Jim Holliday was known in large part for his Sorority Sex Kittens series back in the 1990's that invoked a certain set of running gags where the ladies of the sorority ran their universe without question. Each time the series released a volume, a plot relating to series as a whole was unveiled, with the kind of humor and insider jokes that made fans come back for more. Well, VCA Pictures has been reviving some of their Jim Holliday classics with a tribute series that has been admittedly spotty for an old fan like me but the up side to it has been a newfound appreciation for the originals as well as all the little touches that went into them. The latest tribute flick comes from director Rick Davis in the form of Sorority Sex Kittens: Kappa Kappa Sex and while it pays a slight homage to the classics, it seemed more like one of Rick's generic flicks for his Cherry Box label (which have had some fine titles over the last three years but few that were more than disposable stroke flicks able to stand the test of time). The plot this time was nil, seeming to revolve around the opening of a small sorority but disposed of quickly for the scenes to take place. Here's a look at those scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used:

Scene One: Megan Joy, the gal with multicolored hair seen on the front DVD cover (second from the left on the bottom), was up first with Cheyne Collins outside by the hot tub. The premise was kind of a stretch but she seemed aggressively willing to slob his knob and the music seemed to be a low rent version of Reno and the Rumrunners so I gave it a chance. The lengthy hummer led to a moderately active vaginal screw by the couple but she seemed fixated with the camera and the scene ran far too long for a Holliday tribute of merit. The editing looked like a gonzo flick and while the use of sunlight was a good idea, the static shot made little use of it in the scene. It ended when he jerked off onto her toes for those who care.

Scene Two: Kelly Broox, the cute little cupcake angel seen on the upper left hand side of the front DVD cover, was up next as she left the hot tub to hang out with Jack Venice. They disrobed and she dropped to her knees to blow him, filling her mouth to the brim with dick as he pumped away in it. The hummer was kind of mechanical but it led to an active ride on his meat so I wasn't too upset. I thought he should have eaten her out a little for a warm up but she did look hot, at least until the sun shifted position and the set up wasn't moved to compensate for it (the couple were aglow in the far too bright sunlight at times). The scene ended with a titty pop but for some reason, she covered her breasts with her hands, sucking only her little fingers clean.

Scene Three: Lindsey Meadows, the only gal not shown on the front DVD cover (what's up with that?), Mia Bangg, the gal on the front DVD cover (second from the right hand side on the bottom), and gardener Sergio, were up next after the gals teased him by taking off their clothing. I preferred Mia's fuller figure and more powerfully equipped ass and legs but both gals were in good shape for fucking. They took him inside to play with, sucking him off in tandem before taking turns riding his cock but he did most of the work and the ladies did little to assist their pal when one was getting banged (largely waiting for their turn, though with the slightest bit of PTM). It ended with a facial and cumswap but as much potential as the gals had, it wasn't used very well.

Scene Four: Cherokee (far left side on the bottom), Lisa Daniels (dead center on bottom), and Brooke Haven (far right side on bottom), were up next in the obligatory lesbian orgy scene. Okay, none of them were college age and the sorority theme wasn't even window dressing this time, but I happen to really like Cherokee and Brooke so I overlooked the weaknesses of the scene in favor of seeing what they had to offer. It wasn't a bad scene for a Cherry Box shoot but VCA has done so much better over the years that it bugged me. They went to using toys far too soon on the couch, barely moved when doing each other, and seemed to be going through the motions. Lisa seemed tacked onto the scene and if they weren't gay for pay here, something else was going on that kept them from getting into the scene (and each other).

Scene Five: Vanessa Lane, the hotty on the upper right hand corner of the cover, was up last and looking very toned up in her skimpy bikini. I know that one of the things I've always liked about her is her enthusiastic sense of energy and chemistry with all comers but here, she seemed subdued (almost like she was clean) and while I still found her worth watching, it was more as a tribute to her previous work then for the scene itself. Her partner was Van Damage and the plotted point that she didn't want to be a Kappa girl seemed so out of place that I can't find the words to describe it (keep in mind that I've been watching scores of older Jim Holliday movies of late so the nuances stood out like sore thumbs. Heck, a quick glance at any of the Holliday Sorority Sex Kitten movies would have shown Rick what elements were needed (elements that didn't revolve around pink finger and toe nails too). The two went down on each other well enough and her anal ride part of the sex was pretty active on "old spotty" (with ATM-eww) so it was the best scene of the bunch but it lacked in the spark that drove Jim's better works and came across as generic much of the time. It ended with a foot pop for those who care and she licked the spew off her big toe before the credits rolled.

Summary: Sorority Sex Kittens: Kappa Kappa Sex would never be mistaken as having any connection to any of the Jim Holliday Sorority Sex Kitten movies but there were some brief moments of strokable sex to enjoy. The technical values varied and the extras, including the full copy of Sorority Sex Kittens 1 and a decent BTS feature, contributed to making Sorority Sex Kittens: Kappa Kappa Sex worth a rating of Rent It for me. Your mileage may vary but as a big fan of Jim's work, the details of what was missing stood out so blatantly that it was a constant remind of his loss more than a tribute to what he provided. Check it out if you like the cast but don't do it expecting anything like Jim used to make.
