Extra's: The best extra was the bonus scene between Charmane Star and Devin Wolf outside on the patio. The two seemed to be having fun and the scene fit the motif nicely with the other sex scenes though I have no idea why it was edited out of the movie. The Behind the Scenes feature lasted almost 18 minutes long (shot concurrently with Trash Talkin' Co-eds) was great as it showed a great deal of action and fun with the time flying by far too quickly. There was the same four minute long interview with Jill Kelly from Trash Talkin' Co-eds that proved to be prophetic in some ways (though her admission that it was the "Jim & Jill" show rather than the other way around as she claimed later). There were some minimal Star Bios, a trailer for Eye Candy Refocused and two other titles, a photogallery, a bit on the multiple angles used, and a jump to the scene bit too. For when this came out, those were awesome extras folks and still hold up to this day.

Audio/Video Quality: Perfect Smiles: Director's Long Cut was presented in the originally filmed 1.33:1 ratio full frame color as shot by director Jim Holliday for VCA Pictures back in 1999 (at the same time as Trash Talkin' Co-eds). The picture was crystal clear and had a wonderfully diverse cast as seen on the front DVD cover. The fleshtones were accurate thanks in large part to the flat and plentiful lighting, eliminating grain and other visual defects in a manner I wish contemporary companies would at least consider. This was another one of the early Holliday flicks that made great strides to cleaning up the picture and camerawork substantially and should be recognized as such. It's also where I got my taste for strong, flat lighting in my porn movies as preferable to the shadowy and artistic endeavors that so many auteurs these days despise. The audio was presented in the usual 2.0 Dolby Digital English with the vocals appearing to be rarely looped, the dialogue slightly wooden at times, and it sounded hollow less frequently than previous volumes in the series. The music was trademark Jim Holliday style as provided by Scott Reno & the Vancouver/Reno & the Rumrunners (featuring Scott Reno, Reno Scott, Ed Monton, and Cal Gary). The music was all original and actually fit in the action, with the lyrics working better than average for the action; the kind of breezy and fun stuff I always liked about Jim's later efforts.

Body of Review: Jim Holliday was one of my most consistently favorite directors for VCA Pictures and as he developed the formula and trademarked signature elements that went into his movies (the shades, the white apparel, the moccasins, the lesbian orgies and silly twists); fans responded by favoring him in the most important of ways, spending their money. The latest release of his that I got to review was Perfect Smiles: Director's Long Cut, shot concurrently with Trash Talkin' Co-eds, in a story about a sexy beauty pageant where the contestants tried to rig the results by having sex with the host (Evan Stone playing Wink Eubanks) and judges. The cover put it like this: "If you think Perfect Smiles has anything to do with above the waist, then you just don't know Jim Holiday. He approaches beauty contests the same way he does everything else--focus on the fun and fluff, add tasteful raunch, then satirize and ridicule the hell out of the rest of the deal...There's no Miss Congeniality in the Miss Whole Package Contest. There is a Miss Thimbles, Miss Perfect Slit, and a Miss Perfect Pucker winner. Devin Wolf Bangs Jill and Shayla backdoor in separate scenes, while Evan Stone does likewise to Sydnee Steele and Barett Moore. Just four of the eight rearenders in this twelve scene sex-travaganza. Perfect puckers and perfect vertical smiles galore..." This wasn't his best work but it was as much fun for a porno as I've watched and the sex was often harder than many contemporary releases, including a lot of anal by gals not known for doing it. Here's a brief look at the scenes for those of you that haven't already left to get a copy, noting that condoms were used by the men:

Scene One: Perfect Thimbles: Barett Moore, the gal on the upper left hand corner (second gal from the left on the top row), was up first as the opening credits showed her sucking of the mighty Evan Stone in bed. Her nipples were her claim to fame in this movie but her mouth and ass seemed to be quite worthy to me as well. It was a short, pre-credits, scene that Holliday liked to immediately get viewers into the mood with and it showed some heat and energy even if it wasn't her best work. It ended appropriately enough with a pop shot to her nipples.

Scene Two: Perfect Slits: Tiffany Mynx, the hotty anal queen fresh out of her previous contract (seen on the second row, second from the right), and hotty Jill Kelly (Jim Holliday regular seen on the bottom row, second from the right; immediately below Tiffany), were up next on a blanket outside on an overcast day as the two performed together. The BTS/interview footage made it clear that this was a first scene between the ladies and they were really into it. They licked, rubbed, rimmed, and used toys on each other in this really hot scene that I've appreciated for years. To say that both gals had "perfect puckers" would not be saying enough but it was a hot scene with loads of chemistry.

Scene Three: Perfect Curl: Shelbee Myne and Pat Myne, a married couple at the time, were up next with him acting like a surfer burnout as he suggested it would be "rad" to have sex on the stage. It was painfully quick sex with the hint of oral and some vaginal pounding followed by anal where she barely moved (the vocals seemed looped too). She was (I think) the gal on the top row, fourth from the left on the cover and the scene ended with a titty pop.

Scene Four: Perfect Pink: Tabitha Stevens, the busty blonde seen on the bottom row, third from the left on the cover, was up next with a youthful Julian, long before his tattoos took over the canvas known as his body. She returned the pleasure with a short but sweet blowjob, moving to a slamming vaginal and slow anal as a result. The end of the scene came too soon as he popped on her abdomen but Gumdrop was in a good mood here.

Scene Seven: Perfect BJ: Renee LaRue, the gal with red and black hair on the second row, first gal from the right on the cover, was up next as she tried to improve her chances at winning by hooking up with judge Julian (hmm, that sounds funny now that I think of it) in his motel room. She wore a neon blue, form fitting dress, and went down on him nicely before he screwed her pussy. The layer change was here so there was a weird cut (and I couldn't go back to the other material without accessing the chapter menu) but she provided a decent ride here. This was another case of no anal and a titty pop, reminding me that she was always one of the sweetest gals online.

Scene Eight: Perfect Combo: Tabitha Stevens, Charmane Star (lower left hand corner with the circular tattoo on her arm), Felecia, Charlene Aspen, and Chandler, were all up next in the form of a lesbian orgy with the polka-esque music of Reno and the Rumrunners gleefully playing in the background. There was a lot of licking, rimming, anal play, fingering, and other forms of deviant behavior. This was one of the big draws to a Holliday fuck-fest; the large numbers of gals going at it together. As always, the ladies had a great deal of fun and the scene warmed the viewer up for the even larger lesbian orgy that came next but it still showed that Jim was an excellent judge of selecting gals to work together. Whew!

Scene Nine: Perfect Contest: Julie Meadows, Kelsey Heart, Chaz Vincent, Wendy "Maya" Devine, Chennin Blanc, Deven Davis, Tabitha Stevens, Felecia, Sydnee Steele, Charmane Star, Daisy Chain, Tiffany Mynx, Sydnee Steele, Jill Kelly, and just about every other lady in the cast, were up next as they all engaged in a great big Jim Holliday orgy on the main showroom floor. They licked, rubbed, played with and lined up their asses so that even the mighty Evan Stone could get to taste their assholes. The contests of the show revolved around body parts and even the nipple tasting contest was fun but the overall fun factor was high even if this wasn't one of Jim's best huge lesbian orgies. The winner of the beauty pageant was a surprise but the prize was even funnier, a clear nod to Jim Holliday for those not up to speed on the guy.

Scene Ten: Perfect Prize: Sydnee Steele, the brunette hotty on the second row, first gal on the left hand side, was up last with the mighty Evan Stone in the hotel room bed. Her puffy pussy goes way back with him since she was his first in the industry (he had been a male stripper until he hooked up with her former husband to start doing porn) so there was clearly some chemistry between them as he licked her ass and readied her for the boning after she blew him. It was a nice way to close out the action portion of the movie, especially considering how active a cock rider she was here. Summary: Perfect Smiles: Director's Long Cut by Jim Holliday for VCA Pictures was another title I felt earned a rating of at least Recommended thanks to the splendid casting, the warm scenes, the fun factor, strokability levels, and replayability. I first saw this one years ago and could still get off to it as I revisited the classic title from the VCA vaults. In short, Perfect Smiles: Director's Long Cut did have some mighty fine smiling going on, most of which was south of the waistline if you caught the double entendre. If you're a fan of a particular gal instead of the cast as a whole, you'll be upset that most of the ladies had to share the spotlight too much but this was typical of a Jim Holliday release and his legion of fans seemed to enjoy such matters as a change from the other works released at the time.
