Extra's: My favorite extras were the two extended "Phat Cut" scenes that added 20+ minutes to the movie (you could watch them as integrated into the flick or separately). This was an area that VCA Pictures was experimenting with that few other companies stepped up to add in over the years and it really juiced up the value of the DVD for me. I also really liked the audio commentary by Jim Holliday, Allysin Chaynes, and Kelsey Hart, though Jim was the most active talker by far (you had to know that was the case, yes?). Still, in terms of finding out what Jim was going for, some answers to those mythical questions of his, and anecdotes worthy of the legend, the commentary is the place to go. The 18.5 minute Behind the Scenes feature by Wit "four times runnin" Maverick (the same one that didn't appear on Little Town Flirts from my understanding, though it had footage from each) was fun too. There was more nudity and the cast having a playful time of it; making the time slip away as a result. Fans will find it enjoyable though. There were also some minimal Star Bios, trailers for movies like Brown Eyes Blondes, Perfect Smiles, Sorority Sex Kittens 3, a photogallery, a bit on the multiple angles used, and a jump to the scene bit too.

Audio/Video Quality: High Dessert Dream Girls was presented in the originally filmed 1.33:1 ratio full frame color as shot by director Jim Holliday for VCA Pictures back in December 2001 (filmed at the same time as Little Town Flirts, with assistance by Evan Stone as credited by Jim in the commentary track). The picture was mostly clear and had a wonderfully diverse cast as seen on the front DVD cover. The fleshtones were accurate thanks in large part to the flat and plentiful lighting, eliminating grain and other visual defects in a manner I wish contemporary companies would at least consider. This was one of the mid-term Holliday flicks where some budget considerations came into play, coming off as decent looking but the best the man had to offer at this stage in his career. The audio was presented in the usual 2.0 Dolby Digital English but the vocals appeared to be looped in a few cases, the dialogue slightly wooden at times, and it sounded hollow less frequently than previous volumes in the series. The music was trademark Jim Holliday style with Reno & the Rumrunners with Kennet Earl & the Surf Mervins on back up (a related band for those no tin on the joke). There was the normal range of music here for those who care but the movie seemed to be more of an after thought or filler in between the other movie made at the same time.

Body of Review: Jim Holliday had a lot of fun directing for VCA Pictures and in December of 2001 (technically, they were also shooting on "Black Friday" after Thanksgiving among other days), he made Little Town Flirts concurrently with High Dessert Dream Girls. I reviewed the other one but HDDG was cute as it had the plot bare thread of a drifting journalist out in the boonies looking for a sex story to write. The cover said it like this: "The California high desert is a cold and foreboding place to strangers, but hotter than all hell to the locals who guard their way of life and their individuality. Amidst the beauty of the Mojave Desert, and shot in the distinctive Jim Holliday style, find out what happens when a smug city slicker photo journalist tries to do a on the unique sexual proclivities of high desert dwellers. You will discover that too much knowledge might not be a good thing." In all, it was a nice effort well worth checking out for Jim's fans so if you're still interested, read on. Here's a quick look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that condoms were used in all but the lesbian scenes (of which there were many):

Scene One: Angelica Sin, the appealing brunette on the upper left hand corner of the front cover, was up first with a short scene with Dale DaBone in a small room on the bed. The hummer was fine and he squawked on with the necessary dialogue to forward the plot as the scene carried on. They went straight to anal and he did all the work with her ass in the air and head down. She was limber and took what he had to offer on her face, marking a scene that I wished lasted a lot longer.

Scene Two: Felecia, the brunette in the dead center of the cover standing beside Jenna Haze, and Chandler, the blonde on the top center, were up next in a short lesbian scene that had the toe sucking, ass licking, pussy munching action you'd expect from these two. They used toys and tongues the most for those who care, making it another Holliday standard bit of fluff.

Scene Three: Nina Ferrari (second from the bottom on the right hand side), Chandler, and Alex Sanders, were up next in the trailer as the trio boned one another like crazy. It was wild in terms of the action; the three of them went into the oral like they were driven, with him tearing into an active Chandler in the ass after Nina took it very well in the pussy. The pop shot used two cameras after the squeaky voice of a Gamera wannabe (Chandler) but it was a sweet little ride by all concerned with a decent pop.

Scene Four: Jill Kelly, in a rare later appearance in a Holliday flick (she had her company going full steam ahead by this point), and curvy Bobbi Bliss, another staple of Jim's movies, were up in a bed doing one another orally with a lot of attention to toes, twats, and assholes. Scene Five: Tawny Roberts, the hotty contract star of VCA at the time (second from the right, on top), was up next in bed with then real life partner Rick Patrick. I disagreed with Jim's commentary assessment about the lighting but the setting outside of the trailer was fitting and the ladies appeared to get off to one another.

Scene Seven: Allysin Chaynes, still looking great on the bench outside, was up next in a short masturbation scene. She fingered her asshole, tasted it, and otherwise rubbed herself silly but it was so short that I really hated calling it a "scene".

Scene Eight: Kelsey Hart, Allysin Chaynes, Chandler, and the mighty Evan Stone, were up last in the desert after the gals started without him. Fans of foot fetish stuff will love it since there was a lot of everyone getting into licking toes and feet, moving to other body parts like cocks (good blowjob footage here), rimming, and Allysin was the only gal not doing anal with his massive cock in her ass but each gal contributed something to make the scene special. It was light, breezy, and fun as expected; ultimately ending in a big pop shot not shared by the gals as Kelsey took it all (that greedy Kelsey!) but it elevated the movie more than a little bit.

Summary: High Dessert Dream Girls by director Jim Holliday for VCA Pictures was a lot like Little Town Flirts in terms of how well it was handled on all levels. It didn't really stand out in any major way but the casting, the technical values, the amount of extras and fuck for the buck all combined to make the movie worthy of being Recommended. In short, High Dessert Dream Girls was better than just a fuck flick for Jim Holliday fans but it wasn't his absolute best work of the 2000's either. Give it a look when you get a chance and you can pretty much rest assured that you'll be stroking in no time.
