Audio/Video Quality: Heat Wave was presented in 1.85:1 ratio anamorphic widescreen color as shot in HD by director Paul Thomas for release by Vivid Entertainment. The lighting was generally decent in all but one of the scenes and that helped minimize the grain and video noise with the camera work showing some level of extra skill (I think industry veteran Jane Waters was working the camera much of the time). The lighting was flat and even in three of the scenes; some extra attention paid to framing the shots better than usual to help make it better than average (with some experimentation in all of them upon closely looking). The editing was well done as it helped cut down any of the rougher points to a minimum, showing that the team approach was used to make it look the best it could in most cases. The composition of the shots was decent in how it enhanced the look of the ladies, who all looked fine to begin with, adding to the visual treat of their performances but there were some choices made that didn't work all that well. The audio was presented in 2.0 Dolby Digital English with minimal separation and the usual amount of dynamic range. The vocals were always dominant and the generic music not too offensive but the ladies could have employed more dirty talk in my opinion (a standard complaint of mine that not everyone agrees with).

Body of Review: Paul Thomas is nothing short of a directing and performing legend in porn; practically growing up along with the industry from its roots in the mid 1970's. This gives him a lot of perspective and he has picked up numerous tricks along the way, especially when directing for Vivid Entertainment, that allow him to try new things in order to keep the work interesting for him. Some of the time, these efforts work a lot better than others but I've grown accustomed to seeing what he has to offer and trying to place it in perspective; not the easiest task in the world. His latest movie for them is a showcase on their newest contract hotty, Tiffany Taylor, with a small budget vignette called Heat Wave. She certainly has an exotic look and rates among the most physically attractive ladies in porn so the pairing up makes sense for both parties but what about the quality of the scenes you ask? Well, you can read about them below but here's a quick look at the words on the cover to give you the idea that Vivid wanted you to associate with the flick: "It's an afternoon in the Valley in the record heat of the summer. Luscious nymphet's cool their hot bodies in all sorts of sexy ways: Nude moonlight swims, tubs of ice cubes, and dancing under the cool springs of the public fountain. Paul Thomas takes you to the fittingly scorching debut of Tiffany Taylor, the exotic new Vivid girl, in a movie all about beating the heat in the hottest ways imaginable. It may be a Heatwave, but it's 69 in the shade!" If you're still interested, here's a breakdown of the scenes, noting that no condoms were visibly used:

Scene One: Tiffany Taylor, the hotty on the front DVD cover in her debut as a contract gal, was up first playing nude in the pool with Derrick Pierce. She was as cute as ever with that exotic mix of genes, stunning eyes, and lean figure that had him propping her up on the deck to go down on in no time. Her all natural look enhanced the moment and her vocals were within the realm of believability. Her own oral skills seemed decent enough as she worked his meat pipe. He's not exactly prime rib as far as meat puppets go but he's better than the Lockwood/third tier mopes that populate the industry. The lighting here caused some shadows but the textures weren't bad if a sense of realism was the goal over overt sexuality. Summary: Heat Wave by director Paul Thomas for release by Vivid Entertainment was interesting in that the best scenes came not from the most beautiful lady of the cast but by the supporting women used. Still, Tiffany's fans will have a lot to like about her here thanks to the tease footage and how beautiful she appeared while the raincoaters will love how heated some of the other scenes were in terms of passion, chemistry, and enthusiasm. The technical matters were mixed but favorable, the extras only slightly less then what Vivid tends to offer, and I have to admit that I liked Heat Wave enough to rate it as Recommended. Vivid is home to some of the most attractive ladies in porn these days and Tiffany Taylor is certainly one of them so I hope she cranks up the heat in future efforts to really shine as brightly as she can.
