Extra's: My favorite extra was the full length audio commentary by Jim Holliday and Tanya Danielle. Tanya wasn't the best commentary assistant Jim ever teamed up with but she did speak up on occasion to provide insights though she was mostly heard as the straight member who would ask questions for Jim to answer. Alexis Malone joined them about ten minutes into the track, adding in sparse comments herself but liking what she was watching. I also liked the 18.5 minute long Behind the Scenes feature by Al Dorado that was shot during the making of this movie, High Desert Pirates and She Devils In Pink. There was extra nudity and the kind of playfulness usually found on one of Jim's sets though, so it was worth checking out. The emphasis was on providing clips and short bits from each movie, with Alexis, Felix Vicious, Jynx, Kira Rossi and others getting a chance to shine. There were also some minimal Star Bios, trailers for movies like Eye Candy Refocused, Witch Coven College, and Little Town Flirts, (but not Floss, Paradise Hole, Sorority Sex Kittens 3, Perfect Smiles, Brown Eyed Blonde), a photogallery, a bit on the multiple angles used, a true double sided DVD cover, and a jump to the scene bit too.

Audio/Video Quality: Eye Candy 3: Special Edition was presented in the originally filmed 1.33:1 ratio full frame color as shot by director Jim Holliday for VCA Pictures back in October 2003 concurrently with High Desert Pirates and She Devils In Pink. The picture was crystal clear and had a wonderfully diverse cast as seen on the front DVD cover. The fleshtones were accurate thanks in large part to the flat and plentiful lighting, eliminating grain and other visual defects in a manner I wish contemporary companies would at least consider. The audio was presented in the usual 2.0 Dolby Digital English with the vocals very solidly captured and the music still a cut above the pack as far as I was concerned. The music was trademark Jim Holliday style with Reno & the Rumrunners, Jan, Derol, & the Steamrollers and the Ghosts of ZZYZX Road Rainwater Band with Hollis Dietz and Twilight Thunder as well (lots of musical credits!). There was the normal range of music here for those who care but the movie seemed to be more of an after thought or filler in between the other movies made at the same time.

Body of Review: Jim Holliday was one of the canniest directors the porn industry ever produced, coming up as a critic and historian before learning his craft in his later years. One of the best things he did for VCA Pictures was perfect the shooting of multiple movies at the same time in order to benefit from the savings he could use to employ more women, a feat evidenced by the sheer number of ladies on his movie covers. One of the bumps in the road for his later efforts was Eye Candy 3: Special Edition, a tribute to the previous efforts in the long running series, but a mixture of some very hot scenes with a few mediocre bits, winding up truncated compared to many of his other efforts. The back cover said it like this: "Our favorite progressive young women's social club is once again raising money for charity any way they can; without "hooking" of course. Winning trivia contests did it in the past, but this time out, their goal is to determine the NUMBER ONE pop/rock/soul SONG of ALL TIME. This impossible challenge is met with the high force sexual energy that produces electric kinky results. The peek, the glance, the tease, the wink, the flash, the flirt, the strut, the eye ... all vintage trademarks from Jim Holliday, the master of fun and fluff. Hey, you!!! Take a good look at this box, observe, ponder ... think some more - then name an American porn movie with more than 10 girls that has a foxier, better looking cast. If it's not a Jim Holliday title, than you probably just can't name one." Scene One: Taylor Rain, the energetic young lady favored by Jim as a combination of gonzo hotty and cute gal worthy of features, was up first at night in the woods with Steve Hatcher. Granted, they had chemistry together but a better meat puppet might have worked out to provide more passion. The lack of condoms under the Hustler administration alone should have been enough for fans to jump for joy given the amount of emails I get about them but the scene wasn't quite as heated as I would have liked this time. Scene Three: Alexis Malone, still looking cute as she tried to come up with ideas to raise money, decided that Talon should "just lick her pussy" in the bed. Scene Six: Katie Morgan, one of the hottest blondes Jim ever used in his movies, and curvy Lana Moore, were up next on the stage in a short lesbian scene. Summary: Eye Candy 3: Special Edition by director Jim Holliday for VCA Pictures was a title full of attractive women that showed a variety of sexual skills and appealed to different niches. While many of the staple acts that Jim used were also tossed in here, the short nature of the movie kept it from being one of his all time classics like previous volumes in the series. To me then, a rating of Recommended was on the high side but the value of the commentary as a time capsule for the industry by itself was enough to carry the day, and the action as a whole was better then you'll find in most features made at the same time. In short, while Eye Candy 3: Special Edition wasn't a masterpiece, it was full of some darned good fucking as Jim would put it, making it worthy of checking out if you find it on sale.
