Audio/Video Quality: Buttman's Butt Freaks II was presented in the original 1.33:1 ratio full frame color the scenes were shot in back over ten years ago by director John Stagliano for what became Evil Angel. The scenes were a collection of clips and pieces that weren't put in previous movies by the guy, explained on the back cover that the 140 minute length of his movies back then were due to the technical limitations of the tape format (high quality tapes only went that long). He essentially put together a lot of footage from the cutting room floor, most of it working really well although subject to substantial technical limitations. The camera was shaky, the lighting often poor, and the editing all too abrupt but within those confines, he really managed to put together a nice package that fans will appreciate, having been unavailable on DVD until last month. The audio was clearly presented in monaural though my receiver read it was in 2.0 Dolby Digital, with about the same limitations as would be expected when using the built in microphone on equipment of the era.

Body of Review: John Stagliano has long been hailed as the true father of gonzo porn, perfecting the works of those around him to popularize the genre that has since become the dominant force in porn (it's cheap to shoot, quick, and easy; with fans enjoying it more than anything else). Long before founding his own company, Evil Angel, he worked with guys like Patrick Collins, Bruce Seven, and other porn pioneers to provide a different style of porn that led to his rise as the most influential director in porn. One of his earlier efforts wasn't a dedicated movie at all but a collection of footage that didn't fit anyplace else, resulting in the recent release of Buttman's Butt Freaks II. The show was shot before July of 1995 and released the following year, using a variety of now classic footage that showed John's appreciation for ass to the fullest. The scenes were little like the extremely lengthy scenes of today, never lingering or fleshing out the ladies as much as I've grown accustomed to but stil managing to provide some superior stroke value on a regular basis. If you're still interested, here's a look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that the cast list was imperfect and only provided fourteen scenes instead of the advertised fifteen (depending on how you classify scenes, there could have been 16 for that matter), and that no condoms were used:

The technical limitations and general lack of extras lowered the rating a hair but it was still worthy of being Recommended for all that great ass and tease the movie showed. The performances were unpolished but still struck me as having the kind of raw energy that John rose to fame for providing and fans should get a kick out of seeing some now-vintage porn finally released on DVD. In short, Buttman's Butt Freaks II was a title long in need of coming out to DVD and I hope John continues to dip into his back catalog to offer up such worthy titles for fans to enjoy.
