Extra's: There was a whole second disc for extras this time so I knew that the value quotient would be higher than usual. The first extra on the second disc was a set of three bonus scenes by the cast; one for Lexi, another for Lexi and Nat, and a third for Kaiya and Mark. Lexi did mostly masturbation stuff as she crawled all over Christian (with extra foot fetish stuff) but her first scene lasted only about 7 minutes. The second scene was shorter but had her and Nat sucking and screwing for 5.5 minutes and the last of these scenes was a 9 minute completion of Kaiya's hummer on Mark from the seventh scene. Each added some value for me and while there were probably reasons for excluding them from the movie; it was still a lot of fun to watch them all. There was then 15 minutes of extra confession time, largely revolving around questions that were not fleshed out in the feature itself but also adding value for me. This was followed by 7.5 minutes of Behind the Scenes footage by Ten C, including Tristan giving the overall marching orders and freedom to the cast to enjoy the action as they saw fit. There was a short montage for the women cast members set to decent music after that, a longer and more general photogallery of the cast that was also set to decent music, a third photogallery following the pattern for the BTS of the movie, numerous trailers, and some spam. In all, I would have added in an audio commentary by Tristan and some of the performers but it was a well handled selection nonetheless.

Audio/Video Quality: Chemistry 2 was presented in 1.85:1 ratio anamorphic widescreen color as shot by director Tristan Taormino for distribution by Vivid Entertainment (with help from Hank Hoffman and Ralph Parfait). The movie was shot in HD though in the same fashion as the various Shane's World series as a form of porn reality TV show, resulting in a decidedly mixed set of technical values (even if better than the first volume in the series). Some of the camera work was by the performers themselves, tending to show a lot of extra movement as though they were on a ship at sea during a major storm. At other times, the lighting would be candlelight or even whatever ambient light peeked in from the mostly closed doors and windows. In all then, the visuals had a lot of footage in need of editing or lighting or even Sony steadycams but part of the draw of the movie was the gimmick of the unknown. Apart from the Shane's World analogy, this was very much like a condensed porno version of MTV's The Real World and looked like it so don't expect the visuals to look to polished and professional (lots of grain, video noise, and other flaws). The audio was presented in a 2.0 Dolby Digital with similar flaws (low levels, abrupt changes that weren't compensated for, and background noise) but like the visuals, it didn't truly detract from the experiment very much. The music added to the show by a couple of independent bands was also an interesting step up for porn but in need of more polishing up (and better placement too).

Body of Review: Tristan Taormino is well known for many things; being a published author, a public speaker, a writer for the Village Voice, a director, my pimp (okay, just kidding to see if you're paying attention), and many other things relating to the exploration of human sexuality that can't be pigeon holed so easily. Having worked at a few other companies in the past, she is now directing an interesting experiment of a series that takes two parts of The Real World, one part Shane's World, and a large dose of talented porn performers willing to look beyond the typical limitations of porn to make a different kind of movie for Vivid Entertainment. The title is Chemistry 2, the sequel to the award winning Chemistry 1, where 8 porn performers spent 36 hours in a house together with few rules or restrictions and allowed to have fun the way they wanted to have it. I was as big a proponent of the initial volume as any of the online critic reviewers and I know for a fact that a number of heads turned at the awards show this year when it won against all odds (and some mighty fine efforts in gonzo) to pick up the best gonzo title. The double takes by seasoned professionals alone were worth the price of admission to the show so what about the follow up volume, shot a few days after the original? Well, to say that it was more of the same would be to betray the originality of the series; it was still different than most porn available on the market and it was still very fun to watch, with an all new cast of performers allowed the same freedoms as the first one had. If that sounds good to you, here's a quick look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that the scenes followed no set path much of the time and no condoms were used:

Scene One: Kimberly Kane, a lean blonde gal with a major frisky streak, was the first gal to have what amounted to a full sex scene (the movie was replete with teases and bits of scenes), with Christian, in the bed. Unlike many of the scenes in Chemistry 1, you could see it all thanks to the lighting and for me at least, that made it more fun to watch. He ate her slowly, less in porn mode than as a regular guy in porn, and she made a convincing argument that she came as a result of his oral work. She then gave him a few licks to get him ready and he then boned her pussy as a result. This was another non-traditional act since most porn would have timed into getting a specific number of minutes of head; elevating the realism, and heat, of the scene much like the civilian sex of the Shane's World movies. They screwed in several positions with some PTM tossed in, even some that aren't too common as they make it tougher for the camera to catch them but real or performing, they generated some heat together before he rubbed out his tiny load onto her ass cheek.

Scene Two: Kaiya Lynn, a small gal with an active set of lips, started the next scene by skipping over Luscious Lopez and Katja Kassin, to give Mark Wood a little POV hummer. That ended way too quickly though so the curvy wonder babes (Katja and Luscious) started sucking and fucking the stud themselves. This pretty much summed up the show and like some of the similar series, earned a rating of Highly Recommended for trying new things and a willingness to experiment. The ladies were exceptionally diverse but skilled, and the resulting chemistry of the planned dynamic made it a lot of fun to watch; with the kind of fuck for the buck replayability you'll want in a porno. In short, Chemistry 2, like Chemistry 1, was not the kind of porn your dad used to watch and while your mileage may vary with regard to specific scene pairings and action, there was no denying the overall quality of action provided by the talented young director. I hope volume 3 is as good as or better than this one.
