Audio/Video Quality: Spring Break Sex Kittens was presented in the originally filmed 1.33:1 ratio full frame color as shot by director Jim Holliday for VCA Pictures back in July of 2004 concurrently with Summer School Sex Kittens; the last two movies shot by the director before his untimely passing later that year. The credits even listed Felecia as the producer, probably because Jim's failing health kept him from having as active a hand in finishing up the movie as most of his previous works. The picture was crystal clear and had a wonderfully diverse cast as seen on the front DVD cover. The fleshtones were accurate thanks in large part to the flat and plentiful lighting, eliminating grain and other visual defects in a manner I wish contemporary companies would at least consider. The audio was presented in the usual 2.0 Dolby Digital English with the vocals captured fairly well despite a huge problem with wind noise and the music still a cut above the pack as far as I was concerned. The music was trademark Jim Holliday style with Reno & the Rumrunners; seemingly using older bits from the vaults. There was the normal range of music here for those who care but the movie seemed to be finished up without as close supervision as Jim typically provided for the obvious reason (it came out after his passing as well).

Body of Review: Jim Holliday might have been a legend to many in the industry but as his final days of shooting flicks for VCA Pictures came around, he had run out of steam and it showed in his work as he increasingly had to rely on his crew to handle the myriad of tasks that he previously was in charge of. During his last shooting session on 7/22/2004, he made two movies worth of material, the subject of today's review, Spring Break Sex Kittens, being the lesser of the two efforts. Having watched it a couple of times lately, I thought it must've had some more pick up days scheduled but given that it was billed as a "How Low Can We Go" title under the opening credits, I figured it was probably in response to how the movie was released post passing; taking whatever footage was left and calling it a movie. Still, for all the technical difficulties on the set that were evident in the final product, some of Jim's sparkle, however little, was present so I couldn't turn away from the movie. Here's a look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used:

Scene One: Brittney Skye, the implanted blonde on the middle of the left hand side of the cover, was up first with tattooed Barrett Blade in bed. He lay back while she blew him, not moving a muscle as the slug enjoyed her oral attention. He snacked on her pussy afterwards, spending some time on her ass crack, before the two screwed in a couple of positions. She was active when on top of him but the scene finished up too quickly with the facial, the pair coming across like they were doing it strictly for the money and not with any degree of passion or enthusiasm.

Scene Two: Kylie Wilde, the skinny blonde with pigtails on the middle of the cover, and sexy August (seen on the lower left hand corner), were up next in a lesbian pairing in the desert on a blanket. I find both of the ladies attractive but the scene provided a mixed experience this time with the abundance of wind noise and the limited vocals combining poorly with the generic fingering and oral they offered up. Their victory dance was weird too although I admit to liking watch them romp around naked as a teaser more than as a scene.

Scene Three: Katie Gold, the blonde on the lower front cover with her hand wrapped around Nyomi's leg, was up next with aging lothario Jay Crew. The wind noise was present in copious amounts and as much as she had given several fine performances in the past, she seemed to be going through the motions this time as she slobbed his knob in her skimpy pink outfit. While I'm sure the sex felt good to both of them as they sucked and licked one another, there was none of that Jim Holliday magic here, making me wonder if perhaps he wasn't on set when it was shot. When she was on top, she rode him mechanically but actively, saving the scene in part, but her ability to do the anal that came afterwards wasn't as solid as her previous work, limiting the heat. It ended with a chest pop for those who care.

Scene Four: Olivia Saint, the curviest of the gals (top row, on the far right hand side), had some junk in her trunk as she showed off her big booty on a mattress in the desert to Steve Hatcher. I liked her ass at least as much as he did, the gal giving the best hummer of the movie after Steve tried his best to work her pussy with his mouth. The screwing was far too short, especially the vaginal work, and she seemed to have issues with taking the cock up her ass as she passively sat back while he did all of the work until she was on top. Thankfully, she broke loose at that time to really pound herself down on him, the ending facial closing it out far too soon for my tastes.

Scene Five: Katie Morgan, the cute blonde on the lower right hand corner of the cover, Felecia (missing on the cover), and Katie Gold, in the last installment of the "Chicks Can't Cook" bit. The wind noise might have been bad before but Ms. Morgan even commented on how bad it was; the tree in the background looking like it was going to blow away due to the brewing storm. The gals did lick and play well together but the weather conditions seem to end the scene really quickly after the oral and limited toy use (anal at that).

Scene Six: Cassie Young, Crystal Ray, and Felecia, were up last in another scene that seemed truncated and lacking in the kind of energy, enthusiasm, and passion the three were known for at the time this was shot. They ate clam well enough, used fingers, and did what they were supposed to but it was obviously missing a lot of footage since the choppy editing skipped around so much.

Summary: Spring Break Sex Kittens by director Jim Holliday for VCA Pictures was, as an award winning director pointed out to me at the 2007 AEE Show earlier this year, indicative of a man on the verge of collapse. There were rumors that Jim was not actively participating in directing the scenes and his attention to detail was missing in the pre and post production aspects of the movie too, but I found it worthy of being a very low Rent It for fans of the guy. The ladies were underpowered, the situation with the wind was almost untenable, and I was left with the impression that the best footage was horded up to make Summer School Sex Kittens better at the expense of Spring Break Sex Kittens. Give it a look but it was definitely a pale version of a Holliday standard, almost too weak to tolerate for this fan.
