Extra's: The best extra, as expected, was the 23:43 minute long Behind the Scenes feature by Axel himself as shot in anamorphic widescreen. There was extra nudity and some of the production's setbacks were covered (including having to re-shoot a scene over audio issues) but the emphasis was on providing a series of interviews with the ladies. This led to a really good looking photogallery (courtesy of Jimmy D.) and trailers to shows such as Reign of Tera 2, Decadence, Test Drive, Teradise Island, Sexxxpose: Tiffany Taylor, Sexxxpose: Lexie Marie, Sexxxpose: Britney Skye, Sexxxpose: Nikki Benz, Reign of Tera 1, Fashion Underground, Desperate, Collision Course, Tera Tera Tera, and Domination.

Audio/Video Quality: Stimula was presented in an anamorphic widescreen color with an aspect ratio of 1.85:1 as shot by director Axel Braun for Teravision. The lighting on the movie was decent, reducing the amounts of grain, video noise, and other elements dependent on lighting. The composition of the shots tended to favor the ladies but also played up the erotica factor more than a little bit, using basic settings for the scenes while attempting a lot of visual trickery that did not always work at enhancing the appearance of the couples from where I sat. I did see some compression artifacts, most likely as a result of the bitrate being in the mid 2 Mbps area or having too high a compression rate set for the mastering, but the numerous visual special effects were more problematic for me (slow motion, lighting). The audio was presented in 2.0 Dolby Digital English (in 192 Kbps) but the vocals had no separation and limited dynamic range. The music wasn't a big factor most of the time but the music volume was a lot higher than it needed to be, forcing me to rush for the mute button on my remote control once the movie was over.

Body of Review: Axel Braun needs no introduction to those who have been following porn over the years and his body of work for various companies has shown a willingness of the man to try a lot of new things in a day & age when most companies take the safe route and copy each other to the point of stagnation. Teravision picked him up to do a movie earlier this year in the form of Stimula; a set of five vignettes that addressed the five basic senses in an erotic fashion. Unlike some of the other attempts by the company to provide artistic porn, this one seemed to have the benefit of Axels' extensive experience and willingness to do something markedly different than normal, resulting in a movie that might not appeal to all of you but will certainly work nicely as stroke fodder if you understand what is going on. The cover put it like this: "Five senses. Five gorgeous girls. Five visually enticing scenes from the twisted mind of award-winning director Axel Braun. Sasha Grey delivers an extraordinarily inspired performance, enhanced by the dramatic color palette and Braun's masterful camera work, in what is bound to be an instant classic for all the fans of hardcore erotica. Let your senses guide you in this journey across the mysterious universe of five girls' quest for pleasure, but be careful ... you might never want to come back." Scene One: Taste: Sascha Grey, the lean brunette cutie on the front cover, was up first after some slow tease where food came into play. The scene ended on a weird note with him jerking off to her feet and her licking them a bit but otherwise served as a good example of using the theme better and with less of the stark camera work most of the other scenes employed.

Summary: Stimula by director Axel Braun for Teravision was a stroke flick trying for something different and succeeding more often than not so I rated it as Recommended. The ladies were physically attractive and the attempt to use a different sensual dynamic for each scene was intellectually stimulating even when it did not quite pan out as it should have but the amount of stroke and replay value was such that it had some fair levels of fuck for the buck. In short, Stimula was a nice change of pace that some of you will find appealing even if the limited extras and decidedly harsh technical values will be too jarring for the overly sensitive.
