Extra's: The extras began with the typical offering of five unrelated bonus scenes from the company vaults including short bits from 5 Blondes, Cassidey's Day Off, It's Not You, Sexy Young Thing, Sunburn (totaling 77:14 minutes of material). This was followed by the usual photogallery and text biography for contract gal Cassidey, four trailers to Debbie Loves Dallas, The Houseboat, Stood Up, and Off The Hook, some spam, and my usual favorite; a 13:37 minute long Behind the Scenes feature by Hank Hoffman. Cassidey was given the lion's share of the short feature, PT directing the cast, and some random bits of fun fluff were included too. As always, there was a second side to the front cover but as with most recent Vivid offerings, it was only a set of four covers to other titles instead of more artwork.

Audio/Video Quality: My Wife's Best Friend was presented in a full frame 1.33:1 ratio offering as shot by director Paul Thomas for Vivid Entertainment. Unlike some of his more noteworthy titles of late, this one was NOT shot in HD, so being presented in the SD format will not make a difference if it is ever upgraded to high definition. The lighting was reasonably well handled (with minor exceptions in a few of the scenes that had less lighting and appeared overly saturated), limiting the grain, video noise, and other distracting flaws seen all too often in porn these days; appearing to be shot nicely by talented cameraman Ralph Parfait. The composition of the camera angles and lighting were not always optimal this time, the camera spending too little time in the first scene and too long on some of the later establishing shots. The fleshtones were usually accurate this time and the DVD mastering was well done, making it look pretty solid in terms of visual quality (though perhaps the compression ratio was set too high as the bitrate was averaging about 4.5 Mbps). The audio was presented in a 2.0 Dolby Digital offering (at 192 Kbps) with the vocals sounding flat and the music pretty decent thanks to Miles Long. For some reason, the levels were mixed lower than usual but aside from the added background noise from doing so; the dynamic range was average and the separation of the vocal tracks nonexistent.

Body of Review: Paul Thomas might be given the best resources at Vivid Entertainment to make his brand of features but his material is typically best described as being for a specific audience; usually referred to as a couple's crowd. This is not to diminish their importance in the marketplace, most producers realize that hardcore raincoaters make up a limited group to rely on for sales, but to describe who Paul's movies best appeal to. His latest fuck flick is My Wife's Best Friend; a feature catering to those who want a bit of plot to go with relatively tame sex. The back cover said it like this: "Who is the one girl you should not make a pass at? You guessed it...your wife's best friend. Going there is suicide. But she is so sexy, so hot, so horny and so, so very available. How can something so wrong seem so right? And after all, she's your best friend... she'll understand, right? Well let's just wait and see..." That said, if you're still interested, here's a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were worn:

Scene One: Pool Party: Cassidey, the brunette plastered on the front DVD cover, was up first as she swam naked in the swimming pool while playboy Derrick Pierce actively courted her. She embraced her destiny and climbed out to blow him, jumping in to cool off as he followed her in; the scene edited into the ocean antics of Denise "America is so fucked up" K. Derrick snacked on Cassidey's crack and she appeared to enjoy it but it was basic with little chemistry or passion as a result. She's best when giving over the top performances and this was a decidedly different side to the gal, laying back and passively enjoying getting head. Her blowjob was on autopilot too, not lasting long before he bent her over to pork. They did a few positions but she only seemed to be having fun when she was on top, the lighting getting progressively worse (and lacking; saturating the colors) until the modest ending stomach wad of population pudding flowed out.

Scene Two: Seducing Deidre: Denise K., the actual lead of the movie's limited story, was up next as she encouraged Derrick Pierce to orally stimulate her while Gwen Diamond watched from the next room. Gwen stayed away from both of them in her non-sex role but the couple seemed content to keep it simple. The overacting by Denise was a bit iffy as he continued to lick and finger her silly; a bizarre circumstance of Misty Magenta assuming Gwen's role to participate in the threesome explained by some onscreen text suggesting it was beyond the control of the company. Misty jumped in to help suck Derrick off, providing more of an active hummer than the others in the cast seemed able to do while Denise ate her out. There was some face sitting and vaginal screwing; the ladies seeming to appreciate his rod with moderately active rides on it, but the limitations of the scene were far too noticeable for me, even when Misty did anal (in an even more passive manner than the scenes had showed the ladies) before the ass cheek pop.

Scene Three: Model Boy: Cassidey, having warmed up partner Jack Lawrence with stories of Denise's exploits, took to blowing him in the bathroom. It was a sensual hummer on the floor, each giving the other some oral loving before the vaginal plowing began. He teased her with his chubby (not a full blown erection) before they went to the bed, the lighting inferior in the move to a noticeable extent. The penetrative sex was strictly missionary with her doing nothing to warm things up; making it a filler scene by all accounts.

Scene Four: Old Girlfriends: Cassidey and Denise K. were up next in the apartment on the floor, Denise taking up her handheld videocamera as she enticed her pal to get frisky. This led to a striptease where both showed off a bit in their contemporary clothing (jeans and generic tops); leading to the best tease of the movie. The sexual relations they engaged in were mostly generic oral and fingering though, the action decent (especially compared to the other stuff) but never living up to their respective potentials. The strap on dildo portion of the scene wielded some cool dirty talk by Cassidey but it seemed truncated like most of the scenes in the movie and suffered as a result.

Scene Five: Video Psychology: Denise K., once again using her camera as a means to engage in carnal antics, seduced Jack Lawrence in a darkened room as he tried to nurse his pulled hamstring. The tightness of the close up used to capture her blowing him very slowly was a nuisance but it was not a bad piece of work either since she tongued his balls and otherwise readied him for action. He reciprocated and then they bumped uglies against the kitchen table, the gal never allowed any positions where she could shine before he rubbed out the load to her stomach.

Summary: My Wife's Best Friend by director Paul Thomas for Vivid Entertainment was a title I would suggest as a Rent It to couples looking for something short, moderately tame, and designed for the neophyte porn connoisseur to enjoy. In short, My Wife's Best Friend was not one of the blockbuster efforts of the season by the company, especially considering the casting change midway through the production, but it will probably appeal to slavering fanboys of the cast more than anyone else.
