It’s amazing what a lack of
professional lighting (or perhaps, mediocre DVD mastering) can do to a fuck
film. When the brightness is balanced and maintained, everything looks on the
up and up. But let the levels dim, and suddenly, everything gives off a 42^ndStreet gritty grindhouse vibe. This mostly happens when our director dives in
for an up close penetration shot. What makes this even more intriguing is the
fact that Tight Fit Productions provides two separate discs for consumers – a
standard DVD and a High Def version. Both carry the same image, just offered in
different tech specs: 1.33:1 for the regular DVD and 1.85:1 for the anamorphic
widescreen HD presentation. Don’t get too excited, however. It’s merely a
matter of cropping.

It’s Dillan’s world, especially
when it comes to the added content. Aside from the standards – trailers, web
info, cumshot recap – we get a Making-of documentary that finds the actress
fixing her hair and describing her career. Occasionally, while she’s talking,
outtakes from the sex scenes are featured. It’s interesting, but doesn’t really
pick up until she stops gabbing, and the extras let the performers speak for
themselves. It’s always fascinating to hear the mechanics of a porn movie – the
carefully controlled positions, the frequent need to stop the action to save a
pop, etc. While a bit stiff at times, the overall production is plausible, and
enticing.

Newcomers to the porn industry
have it rough. Not only are they competing with established talent, but there
is a perception of “poseur” that comes with the territory. Indeed, in this day
and age, where hardcore is generated by wannabe jocks with camcorders, the
notion of doing smut for “the sex” has quickly been replaced by balling for a
buck. Some gals embrace the slut stance. Others look for ways to rise above and
make a stand as a star. Clearly, in the case of Dillan’s Day Off,recent 2006 AVN Winner Dillan Lauren is out to prove a point. She intends to
use this four scene showcase as a means of making a name for herself. Either
that, or she could only manage this almost solo shot from newcomer Tight Fit.
Whatever the case, it’s not a bad vanity outing. Participating in three of the sequences,
she proves capable of group grinds as well as wicked one on one. It’s the rest
of the cast that could use some invigorating.

There is one word to describe the
sharking here – “breathless”. Not in the good meaning of the word, however.
We’re talking about the literal translation of the term. This is flesh peddling
that, once it starts, never lets up. It’s all rush, rush, rush, and BANG, BANG,
BANG. It’s not overly aggressive of abusive, but it does tend to keep pushing
past 11 when a nice 5 or 6 would do. The guilty party here appears to be
Hillary Scott. She’s like a hardcore hummingbird, flitting from dick to dick
looking for a drill before she hops on the shaft and starts shimmying. Again,
this is not a bad thing, just a tiring thing. It’s like XXX without the
captured in-the-moment magic. It makes the erotica feel like a race – and the
audience can barely keep up.

Since the premise for this entire film is two gals skipping work to get fucked,
you anticipate that the sex would be fiery and enthusiastic. And for the most
part, you get your wish. Hillary takes the lead during the majority of the positions,
and when she gets worked up, the steam is palpable. Dillan is no slouch, but
her overall demeanor seems more sultry than striking. And as meat puppets go,
Scott is more or less sedentary. He delivers the dick, but does very little to
convince us that he’s nothing more than a knob for the girls to knock. It’s all
part of the Dillan’s Day Off dynamic. It’s all about babes
who like to ball. The mandatory member is more or less dismissible.

Some muscle men carry their bulk with style. Others look like they are one roid
rage injection away from popping. Mr. West is somewhere in the middle, coming
off as powerful at first, about to pass out near the end. Thankfully, his
costar and the setting (a shower) compensate for any pumped up passivity. On
her own, our star is very capable. She really connects with her pretend
paramour and makes us believe in the chemistry between the two. She also isn’t
afraid to expose her own shortcomings. In this day and age of fake tits and
other plastic surgery disasters, her natural body and slightly less toned
physicality is a welcome reprieve (of course, after finishing this review, the
Dirge learned that Dillan has gone under the knife and bought herself some
boobs. Oh well).

On the opposite end of the “going solo” spectrum is Ms. Scott. Even the last
minute inclusion of a hefty butt plug can’t save what is, basically, an
underwhelming slice of smut. It could be the fact that there is absolutely no
connection between the couple. Kris is capable, but he seems to only be taking
up sex space. Hillary, on the other hand, comes off as disconnected from
everything, including the camera. Normally, that would be good. We’d want to
think that the lens is capturing something natural and off the cuff. But porn
also has a facet of performance, and in this case, both actors forget that.
Instead, we get some decent drilling, but that’s about it.

As orgiastic free for alls go, this one is incredibly controlled. In fact, save
for a few moments when all five of the performers appear onscreen together,
this feels like two separate sequences (albeit with interchangeable man meat)
fused together. There’s a lot of pre-position posturing going on, guys getting
hummed by gals going goofy for groin. Yet once we get to the slammin’, it’s
mostly regular and reverse range riding. It has to be said that our star does
good DP, even if her providers seem frightened of actually getting close to
each other. The direction also deceives us. The minute we switch to double door
action, the camera closes in. All we see is man ass and lady taint.

As relative newcomers to the porn game, Tight Fit Productions and Dillan Lauren
can be proud of this project. It’s not the best fuck and suck the Dirge has
seen, but it gets the job done in ways that are enticing and erotic. As with
most adult movies, the premise is quickly tossed aside, and without the “girls
gone wild” set-up, the scenes would have played just fine. Therefore, a Recommended rating is easily awarded. While far from classic, it’s not crap either. Couples
will also foam over the slightly aggressive, mostly sensual nature of the boot
knocking. As a result, a Cohabitation Certification is easily granted. It would
be nice to think that, in this freer day and age, babes who want boner would
gladly take a personal day to get the dick they so desperately need. Yet even
in the world of fantasy, the logistics of Dillan’s Day Off are about as believable as the XXX action.
