Extras: Almost all of you will like the 48:02 minutes of bonus scenes included in the extras section, one from The Grudge and the other four are described below. Audio/Video Quality: Perfect Match was presented in 1.33:1 ratio full frame color as shot for DVD by director Manuel Ferrara for both Vivid and Red Light District. I would've greatly preferred the movie to be in anamorphic widescreen (the process adds a lot of detail to the picture on widescreen televisions) but older shot scenes are just going to be in the lesser format (so until the vaults run off of them, expect more of the same). I've noticed that Manuel's older works while at Red Light were often better than his contemporary titles in terms of lighting and visual appeal; losing the team he was supplied with as a contract director having a great impact. Still, the colors were fairly solid and the fleshtones fairly accurate, but the lighting was not the best this time; making the picture look decent. Lighting varied by the scenes and was spottier than previous efforts but still seemed to convey the sense of raw energy fairly well, some scenes taking on a saturated look that could probably be easily fixed in pre-production with the right crew. The amount of grain and video noise was moderate as a result so while it wasn't the best I've seen from Manuel (not even close in fact), it was better than some gonzo productions by weaker directors in the field. There were no compression artifacts noticed during the scenes but the strength of the visuals was how the composition of the shots almost always enhanced the looks or perceived passion of the scenes; usually hovering in the 3 Mbps range. The audio was presented in 2.0 Dolby Digital English (in 192 Kbps) with minimal separation between the channels and a standard dynamic range, making it nothing special in this sense but not bad either with the sole exception being that the volume was far too low.

Body of Review: Manuel Ferrara is currently one of my favorite male performers in porn, not because I am into guys but because of the way he gets the most of out his female performers. In short, Perfect Match really was a perfectly matched set of leads that should consider an updated approach that would allow other contract gals to strut their stuff like this, perhaps with better lighting and camera work, but serving notice that Vivid gals can handle hardcore gonzo and Red Light District can bring the best of them in the process.
