Audio/Video Quality: Video Nasty: Katsuni was presented in the usual 1.78:1 ratio anamorphic widescreen color as shot by director Celeste for Digital Playground. The high end equipment and skilled crew of regulars assisted director of photography Robby to make this release look okay; a return to the more distinctive Celeste look that marked her flicks from prior to last year where Robby asserted his own style more frequently. In fact, the technical matters and editing by William Default aside, I would have said that Celeste might have even been on set for these scenes given how different they looked but for the time frame when they were shot. The lighting was generally solid here, reducing the grain, video noise, and other defects that sometimes arise in making porn on a budget; favoring a soft focus in some cases that I wasn't convinced worked too well. The way the scenes were shot and edited was markedly similar in the scenes; the composition favoring the ladies and looking like Robby had no constraints this time. The DVD mastering revealing no compression artifacts; with the bitrate for the visuals hovering around the low 5 Mbps this time with a few flaws but not as low in resolution as previous efforts in related series. The audio was presented in a 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround English using a 384 Kbps bitrate; twice that of most porn made these days, with a minimalist leaning that seemed unique in most ways to productions outside of the Jack series, with the vocals always dominating the audio track as I like it. There wasn't much separation between the channels, if any outside of the intermittent music, but the ladies were always clearly heard here.

Body of Review: Celeste is the only "conceptual" director working for Digital Playground these days; coming up with scenarios that appeal to her inner slut as it were. That allows her minions, such as Robby D., to carry out her ideas for production, the latest such release to come out next month being Video Nasty: Katsuni. The series is a semi-showcase effort that allows each lead gal to get in a couple of scenes, Katsuni in from her place in France to make the movie last year. This being a newer effort by the team, the vocals were not lost to the music, appealing to many vocal fans such as myself that found the artistic failings of Celeste's older style of shooting to be very hit or miss. Katsuni has been in porn longer than the last five contract gals hired by the company together so her range of stunts is impressive and fans might find this volume tamer in terms of what takes place but erotic all the same. Here's a brief look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that no condoms were used for those still interested:

Scene One: Stoya, Katsuni, and Tony DeSergio were up first with Stoya asleep on the floor when Katsuni was paid to wake her up orally. The montage effect was not my favorite way to go but the initial lesbian antics were hot as Katsuni was to snort lines of coke off Stoya's back. A sneeze woke the "sex android, force of nature, from the future" up and both ladies started sharing Tony's cock in no time. He gave them some head too but the ladies were relentless in their onslaught, sucking him off hardily as they double teamed him. Neither of the ladies really appealed to me here either but following after Stoya and Katsuni makes it tough on almost any current performer if you catch my drift. There was a lot of dirty talk this time though and I have to admit that it appealed to me more than the visual elements; fans of anal will appreciate Keeani more than Jandi this time. The ending spew-fest went to Jandi's ass cheeks though and her pal licked Rico's rod clean before slurping up the spunk; making t one of the nastier scenes in the movie even if the chemistry was limited between the trio.

Scene Four: Abbey Brooks, a chunky chick newcomer that has a lot of potential as far as I'm concerned, was up next in bed with grumpy Charles Dera; the scenario being that she was a nymphomaniac and he wanted some sleep. She would not give up until he serviced her though, his look of disenchantment weakening the scene for me until the humor of reversal took place (once she was through, he was aroused; the story of many men's lives). He spent some time getting her back in the mood with the frisky fraulein appreciating his efforts. Both of them worked the other orally before the boning took place; fans of plus sized gals will find her a definite change from the company's usual casts. The weakest thing about the scene was that Abbey was almost always a passive rider of cock; her shaven cookie looking like it would take a much larger penis to get off on and no back door action to speak of. The load went to her chest and was unimpressive but once again, she has a lot of potential as far as I'm concerned.

Scene Five: Brianna Love, one of the most popular gals in porn over the last year (seen on the lower left hand cover in the peach dress), was up next with studly Marco Banderas and muscular Tommy Gunn. Summary: Video Nasty: Katsuni by director Celeste for Digital Playground had some shining moments starring Brianna Love, Katsuni, and Stoya but the overall appeal to me merited a rating more conducive to the weaker aspects not quite panning out as well as usual so I gave it a rating of Rent It. If you are a big fan of the entire cast and want to see some decent screwing by a plethora of pussy you might not have seen before, there was a lot of variation to appreciate though so give it a look all the same. In short, Video Nasty: Katsuni was a pleasing showcase for the world renowned Katsuni but not her very best work; either for the company or in her career so check it out before buying it next month.
